I only stayed for two nights, but the staff was on the front desk 24 hours so a late arrival and very early departure were not an issue.

Great time alone in the city

Perfect location!! 3 minutes away from the Powell BART station and the 'F' streetcar route to Fisherman's Wharf. This was my first time in SF. I was travelling alone and always felt safe around this area. I was lucky to get a big bedroom with a view and a King bed! It was great. I loved it.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

If you want to ride the famous cable cars that depart from Powell Street, I would advise you to go there before 9am, if you want to skip the huge lines of people waiting to do the same throughout the day+night. Or, just pick up any other cable-car stop along the way (they will usually let you hop on, even if the cable car is quite full), and again, that will save you time waiting in line at the first or final stops.

Excelent location.

It is an old hotel, and the rooms are small, BUT you can´t ask for a better location, it´s one block away from the Moscone Center, the mall, the cable car, union square, etc. Great attention, helpfull staff and clean rooms. I would definetly stay there again.

average "boutique" type hotel in downtown SF

Great location, adequate accommodations, dirty carpets, if you have stayed in an affordable "boutique" type hotel in SF before, then you know what you are going to get. Its not the best by modern hotel standards but its not a slum either.

Close to the conference, but the room wasn't good

The purpose of my trip was to attend the AGU conference. The Pickwick is very close to the Moscone center. Going back and fourth from the conference location was not difficult at all, however the hotel itself is not the best. The bathroom had no counters at all. Just one shelf above the sink, which was very small. Brushing the teeth and shaving was very awkward. The bed wasn't bad and the room had a big screen TV, however the heater did not work. The hotel smelled old, the carpets were worn out. Also, for the price, breakfast should have been included.

It never hurts to ask

Overall we had a very pleasant stay here. Our initial room was on the second floor with no natural light, a gross ac unit and dusty and dirty corners... And the wireless Internet didn't work. After a quick call to the front desk we were moved to a MUCH nicer room on the 7th floor. We had a view and the beds were a lot more comfortable. The staff at the pickwick are superb. In the end, we had a great stay here and I would definitely come again! Oh yea, and the location is great! Lots of good eats near by and close to the BART.

Practical price, excellent location

An older, yet well-maintained building, this hotel has a lot of personality that is missing in lots of other hotels. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is excellent - close to many sought-after attractions.

Close in. Comfortable.

Our room was small but not tiny. The full beds were extremely comfortable. The room decor and colors were calming and pleasant. The bathroom was small but the tile and marble gave it an elegant, clean feel. The location was great, the street noises not bad. We definitely recommend the Pickwick to others.
