wish to cancel

scary neighborhood, street people everywhere, terrible parking even for registration with nortorious SF one-way small alcatraz cell-like room with suffocating no vent.

Charming old place in downtown setting

We chose this hotel for its proximity to downtown SF and the Pier. That came with its own set of 'downtown-type' issues (traffic, vagrants, etc.) The hotel itself was very nice, staff was friendly and professional, room was clean and interesting, though a little small. They did a great job of keeping the outside issues outside. We felt secure & comfortable. There were no real noise problems inside the hotel or our guest room. A decent stay, overall, and a good value.

reasonably priced and spotless

We arrived on a whim while visiting Pleasanton, CA. The location is great. Very central to everything. We mostly visited Little Japan. The guy at the desk gave us a list of his personal favorite night spots and was very friendly. The room was extremely clean.

Kyoto Sushi a few blocks away on Van Ness. way more reasonably-priced than in Little Japan and they have 99 cent Sapporo on draft all day every day! really good sushi and a nice atmosphere.

The Opal, San Francisco

This hotel is quaint and has charm. The rooms are a bit on the small side but clean and included amenities such as iron and ironing board, blow dryer and T.V. (no mini fridge, though). The staff were very nice and extremely helpful. The hotel is located on a major bus line so it was very convinient to get to the fisherman's wharf. Union square was within walking distance, about 5 blocks. The complimentary breakfast is very basic: toast, cold cereal, bagels, orange juice, tea, and coffee. Although, Mel's Diner is next door and can be accessed directly from the lobby. Over all, I enjoyed my stay and would visit again!

Unbeatable location for the price

This is a Hotel with a good location. The breakfirst is a disaster, not enough seats for all the guests! Everything in plastic!

A Good Stay

We went to San Francisco for a fun weekend. Wicked Friday night, Outside Lands concert Saturday, and baseball game and comedy show on Sunday. The Opal was centrally located and was a quick walk or inexpensive cab ride away from all our activities. Maybe not the best neighborhood but not too bad. We had a clean, comfortable room and made the most of the ample complimentary continental breakfast each morning. Overall, this was a good place to stay and well worth the moderate price.

Good Hotel for the price

The Opal was a nice hotel. Took advantage of the fitness centre. Rooms were a bit small but the service at the front desk made up for anything that was missing. The staff are so friendly and helpful - suggesting places to see and go for sightseeing and dinner. Can walk to Union Square in about 15 minutes (downhill on the way there) - great price considering the location.

The Opal

This hotel is very quaint and cute. The rooms are very small but clean and included amenities such as iron and ironing board, hair blow dryer. The staff was very nice and helpful. The hotel is located on a major bus line so it was very convinient to get to the fisherman's wharf. Union square was within walking distance, about 5 blocks. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the complimentary breakfast. The menu included- toast, cold cereal, bagels (if you're one of the first people there), orange juice, tea, and coffee. Although, Mel's Drive-in is next door and can be accessed from the lobby.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

To park in the hotel lots it costs about $28 per night. However, I found it worth it with the amount of traffic, lack of parking, and street meters in San Francisco. Plus, the bus line only costs $2 per person and you can ride and/or transfer buses for several hours.
