Rooms are clean and efficient; spacious work desks are popular among business travelers. Other amenities include a complimentary on-site fitness center and 24-hour coffee and tea service, as well as a complimentary breakfast buffet.

Features

The hotel has received a three-diamond rating from AAA and was selected as the Crescent Hotel and Resorts "Hotel of the Year" in 2008.

Elsewhere on the property is a 24-hour laundry facility (fees apply) and car rental desk (fees apply; rentals also can be facilitated by the concierge).

All guests have complimentary access to a state-of-the-art on-site fitness center. Guests also are entitled to a complimentary breakfast buffet every morning.

VERY WELL LOCATED

The hotEl is quite old, with little confort: no frigidaire in rooms, showers do not work properly, the garage service not only is not free but quite expensive

Pretty Good

Hotel was fine. Staff was nice, room was clean. The Internet worked, but would cut out a lot, even when I paid the extra $2 for the "high speed" option. The laundry room was out of service when I needed it... but that's just bad timing. There were plenty of things within walking distance, and bus routes right outside. Overall I enjoyed my stay.

Just perfect - if your expectations are right.

The Opal is a nearly 100 year old property that's been brought up to date without changing the inherent character of the original hotel. Staff is helpful and very pleasant. Hotel is very clean. Rooms are very tidy albeit small. The hotel's location is superb. The reviews that I have read by others include a number of complaints that I find unreasonable, to-wit: Crackheads are outside every hotel in San Francisco, unless you pay for a hotel with staff on the curb to keep them away. A free continental breakfast isn't going to be a Denny's Grand Slam. It's free. The rooms are small-ish because the building is nearly 100 years old, and the rooms are quite inexpensive for the level of cleanliness and service delivered. All in all, this is an outstanding budget choice for anyone wanting to stay near the Civic Center of San Francisco.

Not the nicest hotel ever, but very comfortable room, a great value and very friendly staff. I'd stay there again for a business trip.

Not bad for the price...

We felt a little cramped in our room but we knew what we were getting for the price. Overall, we could not complain...also complimentary breakfast and 24/7 complimentary hot tea and coffee in the lobby. Very nice on the chilly days.... The location was not bad considering we were not familiar with the city...prob would stay closer to Union Square if were to visit again. Hotel staff was ok...nobody out of the ordinary, not rude either but mediocre. Overall, if you are on a budget, this place is highly recommended!

Cooler than expected

Though location is not that good, the room we stayed was clean, and really comfy. I would recommend that you should stay at the opal when you travel SF.

Not best for business - at least on the weekends

This is a nice hotel but I do not recommend for the weekend, Lot of noise, lot of young partiers on weekend. Staff was good, Ok during week, skip the weekend not unless you need a cheaper place. Internet was down a lot of the time

Good value for the money

the hotel staff was outstanding. The matress was not to our liking but that is a 25% chance anyway..... personal preference. The location was good for site seeing. close to public transportation. the knowledge of the staff about local eateries and fun was again outstanding
