not a bad place, but no chain experience

Definitely feels like an old place, and it feels like you are in an old apartment room, definitely not like a chain. You need a key to get in the front doors. Bathroom had no room at all to put anything, one of those sink only, no counter places, and a walk in shower with no extra light. Only one chair in room with King bed, and temp had to be adjusted a lot, but other than that, it was good enough (desk and chair height made it hard to work on laptop though). Continental breakfast sucked, toast, juice, yogurt, mini muffins (one flavour), and hard boiled eggs.

Dining tip: In Hotel

Mel's Drivein is in Hotel and fantastic meals, although I didn't enjoy the breakfast at all (they don't even butter your toast for you, what is up with that!), but the burgers and fries were so really awesome, also very quick to serve you food.

Missing Boots

DO NOT STAY HERE!

Now I know why the price was so cheap....they steal your belongings! When I came back to my room the second night, my boots were missing. I filed a complaint and they pretended to be concerned. They told me their cleaning staff had been with the hotel for a long time and would not steal. Did a magic fairy take my boots? They made me feel as though I was lying. All I know is that I will never stay there and I will make sure to tell my friends and family about this inccident.

Good place to stay, extremely helpful staff

It was a nice place place to stay in a good location: close to many convenient public transportation options and within walking distance from Chinatown. The room was clean and it had all necessary amenities, even though the hotel is old and it shows. It was a good value for cost and would stay there again, even though it was nothing fancy. The best thing about it was the front desk attendant, who was EXTREMELY helpful with tips about where to eat, where to go and how to get there, what was going on in the city. All her recommendations turned out extremely true and helpful which made for a much better time.

The Slanted Door at the Ferry Terminal. Great food and a great atmosphere with a view of Bay Bridge. Book early especially for weekends because it fills up.

Surprise, Suprise, Suprise!!!!!

Picked this hotel out of a hat. 4 of us traveling and this was the best (awsome) price for a jr. suite that included 2 queens and a sofa bed. HUGE room - loved that. Adequate breakfast. Very secure building. Close to everything. The best feature of this hotel was the staff. Thankyou Carlo,Jenny, Suzzane,Ashe, Brad and anyone else we worked with. Made as feel better than family. Please stay at this hotel you will not regret it. Mary

I had a very good time.

I stayed at the Opal with my GF, and i had a very good time, walking to downtown was not hard at all. and i liked the location for, it is right on the edge of Tenderloin, and my GF who lives in SF told me not to stay anywhere past Tenderloin. the room was okay, it was not a 5 star hotel, but it was better than i was expecting. we stayed in the Deluxe King, and the Bed was comfy. i liked that they had a walk in shower, but the toilet was a little small, but i am 6'4 so i bet not many others would complain. we traveled the subway with ease, and had a very good time. and we enjoyed going back to the Hotel every night to spend quality time with each other. i would stay here again.
