Work Trip

Nothing super positive to say about this hotel. The A/C didn't really work so I slept with the window open. Pillows were low-rent but the bed itself was comfortable enough I guess.

Back to the Past Adventure

PROS: The hotel is located very close to public transportation systems such as train and bus stations which help to save an enormous amount of time and money in getting around the city. I would highly recommend people to take the bus if you are staying at the hotel since you can get to most of the touristic places within 20-30 minutes and the bus passes by every 5-10 mins. In addition to its location, the hotel in itself is a hidden treasure with beautifully decorated amenities such as a classic piano, chandelier in the lobby, and historical furniture pieces. Mel's Drive In is just adjacent to the hotel which makes it an added bonus if you want to taste some of the traditional American food while listening to a seventies tune in the coin operated juke box. The 24 hour reception staff members are friendly and helpful in taking care of early check-in clients and there is also a luggage storage for clients that have late departures. Complimentary breakfast in the morning as well as in house coffee/tea available in the lobby throughout the day are highly beneficial for early risers as well as for visitors that would like to have a little break before taking off on their next journey. NEED FOR IMPROVEMENT Breakfast offers both warm and cold items to get some quick energy in the morning. I would encourage having some cut fruits, banana, hard boiled eggs, and peanut butter & Nutella spreads available to avoid having to consume too much of the carbohydrate items such as english muffins, waffles, sweet pastries, bagels, muffins, and bread slices. The gym facility offers basic exercise equipment to burn off some calories but it would be useful to add a step climber machine in order to avoid straining the legs and knees. Moreover, having a spa facility would be an added benefit to the hotel. Thank you very much for your highly appreciated service!!!

Lived Up to Expectations

Although it lacks some of the amenities of other hotels, the Opal San Francisco is a quality hotel at an affordable price right in the heart of San Francisco. The staff was courteous and the rooms were clean. I would recommend this hotel to others who are desiring to stay somewhere affordable in San Francisco.

A Good European-style Hotel

Some Americans might be disappointed by the age and look of this hotel, but European travellers will I think recognize that the Opal offers what all travellers really need: clean comfortable rooms, helpful staff, easy access to most of the city via nearby and affordable public transit, and a good if simple breakfast you can eat in the lobby or take with you. I would happily stay here again on business or travellling alone for any reason. The families and couples I saw here all seemed satisfied and looked happy too.

Great little spot

Historic hotel in San Francisco. Quaint little place, room was small but the amount of history in that place was amazing. It was very inexpensive too for San Francisco. If your looking for a friendly place to just get read and to lay your head at night check them out. Continental breakfast hit the spot also. Over all a good place.

great deal in sanfrancisco

Hotel on the edge of the tenderloin (only beginning to be gentrified) but therefore better than some in this area. Free breakfast has a very adequate breakfast if you are not an omelet and bacon person. Room was small but fine. Carpet could use a shampoo. Other than the carpet the room was clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Guests are a very international clientele. Clearly the least expensive hotel I could find in San Francisco and the free cancellation allowed me to cancel and rebook if the price came down. Never saw the fitness room but impressed they had one.
