Not as expected

The Opal San Francisco is a very old hotel with very small rooms. There is a weird smell throughout the hotel. It is located in a neighborhood full of homeless people, which make it scary to walk on at dawn. What I didn't like about it is the extra fee of $35 per night for parking your car in their garage. I wasn't aware of that and I think most of the people don't know about it either. Breakfast is not bad, but it could be better if it included at least cereal and milk. I definitely would not stay again in this hotel. I think there are better options, just take your time to shop around.

Very bad experience to stay in SF

I was thiking to surprise to my wife, but was a very bad experience. The neiborhood is very dangerous, we had a very bad experience. The parking in the hotel is very expensive, they never told us about some charge for parking, and when we left the room, they tell us that we need pay 30 dollars per day, Very bad...I don´t want to tell more about the hotel, but definitly I don´t recommend for nothing this hotel

Great Hotel and great Staff

The place was clean. The staff were very nice and helpful. And the location is close for walking to a lot great places in the city. There are some homeless people stumbling around...it is a block off the Tenderloin...but they weren't aggressive just asking for money and moving on.

not a great value

Hotel Provides little to nothing, very old, outdated, rooms have poor insulation from noise and the elements, some areas the smell of old is evident, for today's standards this is way outdated, for the price you are better of going with the known names

old style

Expect the best staff you ever met, a good breakfast and you are right near union square. They do try their best to keep it all nice, but it is an older hotel at it shows here and there. But that also has its charm

meeting in SF

Nice old SF hotel to stay for 3 d meeting. Aging a bit. Staff accommodated me when I requested a room away from the main street. QUIET with good double pane windows. Good bed but I prefer feather pillow. garage on site a little pricey but convenient. Light continential breakfast OK. Theater and many small restaurants near. Great value.
