Quirky, modern and ultra-hip, The Mosser Hotel is the only lodging option in San Francisco with a state-of-the-art recording studio on premises. Rooms in this Union Square hotel are clean and efficient. All have platform beds, while some have private bathrooms and others share. Annabelle's Bar & Bistro, the on-site restaurant, utilizes organic ingredients sourced directly from area farms.

Dining

For a fabulous cocktail or tasty sandwich, pull up a stool at Annabelle's Bar & Bistro, a French-style eatery located on the ground floor. The restaurant features an eclectic wine selection.

Rooms

"The Mosser," as it's known locally, has 166 rooms in all -- 112 deluxe rooms with private bathrooms and 54 "economical" rooms with shared hall baths for travelers on smaller budgets. Each room boasts platform beds and vanity sinks. Rooms also come standard with robes, ceiling fans, hair dryers and free Wi-Fi. Many rooms have windows that look out onto busy city streets; some even have reading nooks built into bay windows.

Property features

Opened in 1913 as the Keystone Hotel, the historic property was completely redesigned in 2003 and now feels modern and chic.

The centerpiece of that redesign was Studio Paradiso, a state-of-the-art recording studio that is available to hotel guests. Other standard amenities include ironing boards, two-line telephones and custom-designed furniture.

In early 2010, the hotel announced a commitment to embrace eco-friendly products in all the rooms. The Mosser family donates a portion of all hotel proceeds to reforestation, literacy and educational projects.

Old hotel - great location

I picked the hotel because of the location. It was convenient to walk to work... hotel is old style I would pick a room at the lower level next time so I could use the stairs. There was only one elevator and it serving 8 floors - during peak hours the elevator took 5 to 10 minutes.

SanFran Great! Hotelmeh!

My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel is situated in a great location and in walking distance to all tourist attractions (if you don't mind hills). The bed was comfortable however our room was next door to the shared bathroom and I was kept awake every night with residents taking showers all through the night, I can understand people have flights to get and have to get ready although I could have had a better sleep. The hotel room was filthy and I would advise not removing socks. Staff were reluctant to provide fresh towels daily. Our final day when our shuttle to the airport was delayed I asked reception to call the supershuttle which she was happy to do so until the hotel manager appeared and demanded she put them on hold while she called someone else for him. Overall we had a great time in san francisico and I would recommend people to stay here if you are not fussed on cleanliness and are after a good price in a great location.

great staff

Our first impression was poor. Top floor, TEENY room, and HOT, HOT, HOT!!!! When we asked about moving rooms, the front desk person was very accomodating. We got the room that we saw in the photo. GREAT room, lower floor. Perfect location. The staff was wonderful! The place was very clean. And we couldn't believe how quiet it was for a busy street. Absolutely would stay again. Just not in that first room. :)

Modest place in the heart of City

Old fashioned building with an obvious effort to be kept tidy. Location is the main advantage overall. Every thing else is just ok.

Cant beat the location

Stayed at the Mosser for 4 days with my sister. At first we weren't big fans of the idea of a shared bathroom but it wasn't bad at all. Everything was always kept clean. The Location is perfect. Lots of places are within walking distance which can really help avoid the headaches of driving. I would definitely stay here again. Just note that the only parking is thru the valet service they offer so if you don't want to run up a large bill with that then I'd suggest not renting a car and just walking to your destinations... Besides walking and taking in the sights is part of the fun :)

Good place!

The only less-than-great part of this stay was that I could hear people moving about and doors opening and closing in the hallways outside my room (more easily heard compared to other hotels I've stayed at), which woke me up at different points in the early morning. Front desk staff was not overly friendly, but fine. Otherwise it was a comfortable room and fit exactly what I needed for my trip.

Couple getaway trip!

The hotel was centrally located, so for what it cost it was great to be close to so many different transit lines, taxis and walking distance to various sights. The light breakfast option in the morning was a nice touch. Complaint is that the room is far too small for the price you pay. We could have stayed in a much more spacious room for similar/slightly cheaper price in Union Square.
