Hotel California

I would highly recommend this hotel. The rooms were just the right amount of quirky -- interesting details but not too much kitsch. I loved the little cupcakes that they set out in the lobby every evening. The duel European (?) style comforters on the bed were a great idea. I didn't have to fight my boyfriend for the sheets. The staff at the front desk was friendly and helpful. I was in town on business. It was not difficult to catch a cab to the downtown area (only about $7/trip) or a 15 minute walk.

Nice place for a couple's weekend near Union Square

Pretty convenient at only 6 blocks from the Powell BART station. We did not have a car and walked most places. The room was "brightly" done in yellows and hardwood floors that gave it almost a beach feel. The bed was comfortable, the flat screen TV nice and the yellow umbrella welcomed. This is an example of a hotel over a 100 years old that has aged nicely and doesn't feel worn out or past its prime. As this is directly on Geary, you will hear the sounds of the city at night, so if you need absolute quiet, this is not your place. Ashley and Nancy at the front desk did a wonderful job of directing us where to go and making us feel welcomed.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Go to the Ferry Building Farmer's Market on Saturday morning. There is a lot of food to sample and everything is very fresh. We ended up buying several food items that we took with us on our tours.

Tiny room but great location

I felt like the room was really small, and the fan felt like it was going to fall off at a high setting. But to be honest, this hotel is great for what you pay. It's in a good location, the staff was friendly (although I did have to make requests twice before they were completed). The worst part is the old elevator - every time I used it I felt like it might be my last.

Nice but noisy

Great staff and I loved the bikes. Very noisy downtown and no a/c so that wasn't to good. Small but comfortable.

Nice location

The hotel was very clean and very cute. It had a European feel to it. It was a very short walk to union square or to downtown Yerba Buena gardens.

Hubby's Birthday Trip To San Fran

We arrived at the hotel @ 3pm, which was supposed to be check in time (per my printed confirmation). The agent advised that our room was not ready and to come back at 4pm. We came back at 5pm and asked if there were any upgrades available as the agent told us we would not have a view in our assigned room. She said that she could upgrade us to a "suite" for $80 per night. When we got to the so called "suite" we were very unhappy and dis-satisfied as it was not a suite, but a very cramped adjoining two bedroom. Literally, it was two hotel rooms with one entrance!! It was only myself and my husband so we did not need or want a two bedroom room, we just wanted a sitting area, refrigerator and a view. We had to go back downstairs to ask for another room, and were re-assigned our original room type. The website advertised nightly tequila tastings and a complimentary continental breakfast--neither were available. I was very disappointed with the false advertising. I'm not sure if this happened because the hotel changed ownership? When I booked this trip several months ago, it was advertised as a Best Western but I was told upon arriving that it is a Pineapple Hospitality resort. I definitely will NOT book this hotel or recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation. It was noisy, cramped, and uncomfortable.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

The sunset cruise was amazing. Beautiful views of the Golden Gate, Alcatraz, and Angel Island. The food was pretty good, and the boat was not overcrowded. I would take it again and I would highly recommend it!

Loved this hotel

Very quirky hotel, best beds of our 3 week roadtrip, fluffiest towels I've had in a hotel. Lovely pineapple muffins every day. Free bikes were great to cycle over the Golden Gate Bridge. Use the Olympic Diner opposite - great breakfast - doesn't look much from the front but worth it

Pinapple Hospitality

The staff at Hotel California were on point with their customer service skills. The room was comfortable and was exactly what I expected a hotel in San Fran to look like. My only complaint comes from the parking. I was told valet was $50 per night. This seemed a bit pricey but due to convenience I opted to use this service. The recommend calling 10-15 minutes ahead to request your car. I did this and I still waiting 30 minutes. This was a one time occurance but still frustrating none the less. Overall, my experience here was very positive.
