Rooms
The Sir Francis Drake hotel boasts 416 rooms, including 24 suites, and all accommodations are bathed in a cream-and-sage color pattern. Rooms come standard with flat-screen TVs, ironing boards, laptop-sized in-room safes and hair dryers. Rooms also are outfitted with a number of essential travel items that visitors generally forget, such as toothbrushes and dental floss. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access are available in all rooms (fees apply). Pets are welcome (fees apply).Features
When the Sir Francis Drake hotel opened its doors in 1928, San Francisco never had seen anything like it. Back then, it had an indoor golf course, ice water on tap and radios in every room. Today, only one of these features remains (the radios). The main lobby is a total throwback, complete with dark wood and Beefeater doormen. Upstairs, at the Harry Denton Starlight Room, locals and visitors line up for cocktails and priceless views of the entire city. All guests have access to a state-of-the-art fitness center, complimentary yoga accessories and in-room spa services (fees apply). Visitors who opt out of housekeeping services for a day receive a $10 credit toward food at any of the on-site eateries. Guests enjoy food made from local ingredients at Scala's Bistro, which is run by former "Top Chef" contestants Jen Biesty and Tim Nugent. Valet and self parking are available (fees apply).Transportation

Rooms too small.
The standard room is smaller than my closet, but it is an older hotel. Wish they had coffee in room, but there is no room. Had to either go to lobby or Starbucks. Staff was excellent and it was right in union square. Cable cars were loud though.

Small rooms
The property was well maintained and the staff efficient. The starlite room bar at the top was a plus - great city view at night. It was convenient to catch the trolly right outside the front door for a ride to the wharf. The shopping area 2 blocks east was cool. Liked the location. My only complaints - we found the room a bit cramped, probably typical because of it's age. And the health fitness room was closed and there was no pool.

Well located
Well situated for downtown activities. While the hotel is well maintained it is an old hotel with very small rooms and particularly small bathroom facilities.

Great Location
The Drake hotel is in a prime location for visiting many of the fine tourist attractions that are San Francisco. The famous trolley cars run directly in front of the hotel and can take you to the nearby Fisherman's wharf. The rooms are very well maintained and offer flatscreen tv's, comfortable beds, and elegant bathrooms. The only slight issue that I have with the hotel is the size of the standard queen and king rooms, I personally prefer a little walking around room.

Great Location
If you're looking for a great location right in Union Square, this is your hotel! It's close to shopping, great dining and easy to get to local transportation. The Bart Subway system is only a few blocks away and the cable car stops right outside the hotel door. Excellent lobby bar and nightclub at the top floor of the hotel. The one negative part is the size of our room. We didnt realize the size for a queen bedroom was going to be quite small- uncomfortable to manuver around and no place for luggage. They have done the best they can with the space but it leaves very very little room to just walk across without having to step over your luggage or climb around everything. Overall a good stay, great city and worth your staff for the price.

Beware the Starlight Room
Beautiful nearly old-world hotel with dazzling views and lovely, well-appointed bedrooms although ever-present danger of death by defenestration to drunk people and small children: windows huge, loose, unscreened, easy to open and very close to floor, so that it would be the easiest thing imaginable to plunge to a grisly end many stories below. After 10 p.m. on a Friday and Saturday night, too, all old world illusions are shattered: bed, walls, commode, curtains and your teeth will buzz, jump and seem ready to shatter with bass & drum noise from on high in Starlight Room on Floor 19 or higher. Literally seasick-making. Then drunkards stumbling down from Starlight whom you are forced to encounter in the elevator will offer to follow you to your room to rub you with hot oil to make it better. Hotel staff very sympathetic and ready to make amends to best of their abilities but leaving always out of the question the possibility of getting room to stop reverberating. Do Not inhabit uppermost floors on weekends if you or anyone you love likes sleeping. Adorable bartenders working in lobby lounge helped to make up for it all.

great location to stay
the location of this hotel is really great. I would recommend to anyone to stay in this hotel. However, room service wasn't very good, as it should be in a four star hotel.

Great Location - Very Central
First time staying at the Drake, and was quite pleasant. The check-in staff were very helpful, helping us find a room suitable for our tastes & needs. The location is excellent, literally only a few steps from Union Square and all the major shops (Macy's, Bloomingdales, etc) with plenty of restaurant choices within walking distance or a short cab ride away. The trolley runs directly in front of the hotel, making touring around the city quick & easy. Good overall experience, would definitely go back to the Drake, but would make sure on the room specifications when checking in ;)

Great swedish pancakes at the Sears Restaurant directly across the street. Get there early for breakfast, as the lineups get big!

My review of Sir Francis Drake - a Kimpton Hotel
We stayed there during Christmas eve and when we were in the room, we opened the window only to find out that it was wide opened. We were on the 15th floor and there was no screen or some sort of metal to block the windows. It was sort of scary, but we did enjoy the view. Our room had no heater, maybe it was broken, so it was cold throughout the night. It was a quick stay so I'm sure it would have been nice to stay when it's not holiday and everything else around the hotel are open.
