Boutique luxury with a free wine hour within minutes of Union Square
Occupying a beautifully restored 17-story Spanish revival building in the heart of San Francisco, the Serrano Hotel, a Kimpton property, is both fun and sophisticated. The decor displays a healthy dose of whimsy, as the lobby and rooms incorporate vibrant colors and exotic Spanish and Morrocan accents. The on-site restaurant, Ponzu, serves up pan-Asian fare in a hip and modern space. Serrano offers wine hour every evening, as well as in-room spa services.
Highlights
- Hosted evening wine hour
- Union Square and Theater District offer unparalleled shopping and culture
- Pan-Asian cuisine at Ponzu, the on-site eatery
Rooms
Oversized beds, high ceilings and colorful accents characterize just about all of the Serrano's 236 rooms, 19 of which are suites. Accommodations come standard with cordless phones, iPod docking stations, honor bars, Aveda bath products and laptop-sized safes. The special "Wicked Suite" features photos of characters from the show "Wicked" and was designed in purple and green. Overnight shoeshines are complimentary. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access is available in all rooms (fees apply). Pets welcome (fees apply).
Features
The Serrano prides itself on fun. Arriving guests can try their luck in the "Check-In Challenge," a friendly card-game competition. If the guest wins, the prize is a free upgrade (when available). If the house wins, the guest is invited to make a voluntary contribution to the local SPCA. The property also owns a library of board games for guests to use in the lobby. Upon request, games are delivered to rooms.
The 24-hour on-site fitness center is complimentary. Spa services ranging from massage to facials and nail work are available in-room. The hotel also hosts an evening wine hour featuring local wines and offers complimentary limousine service to the Financial District on weekday mornings (when available).
Valet and self parking are available (fees apply); all hybrid vehicles receive a 25 percent discount.
Dining
Don't miss Ponzu, the adjacent (but hotel-operated) restaurant with an Asian flare. Dishes, many of which are served Tapas-style, have bright, bold flavors.

First Time to San Fran Business Traveler
Serrano
My first time in San Francisco - was there for business. Location is great - close to civic center/cable cars, etc. Bed was extremely comfortable, hotel was quiet, staff was great with giving me directions. Some people have commented on the location - yes, there are some homeless people and you may not want to walk around at 2am by yourself around some parts, but it is nothing worse than you would find in any large city. I had no qualms walking around myself.

Don't bring a car. This should be common sense in San Francisco, but in case you are thinking about it, don't do it. Buses and cabs are everywhere, cable cars will take you to Fisherman's Wharf. It will be much cheaper and less of a hassle without one.

Great price AND great place!
Our stay at the Serrano Hotel was great. It is located close to Union Square, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was awesome, very clean and cozy. The hotel's decor is also very attractive, and the price was great. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Our Best Hotel Experience Ever!
The hotel staff was exceptional in the most positive ways. The complimentary wine from 5-6:00 PM was a classy touch and offered the perfect way for socializing with other guests. We enjoyed the free coffee in the hotel lobby each morning, along with the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. My wife and I liked the location very much, within easy walking distance of the downtown region around Market Street and the cable car. While we took a taxi from the airport to the hotel (about $42 including tip), we took the hotel limo service on our return for $45 (not including tip). It was a very comfortable Lincoln Town Car with rear seat lights for reading the New York Times and Wall Street Journal.

Serrano Hotel
We were attending a conference across the street. Very convienant. Our flight was dreadfully late and arrived after 1 AM. All the staff was kind and respectful. Very helpful. Remember though be ready to give out tips for the person that helps with your luggage etc.........please don't forget to remember to leave a tip for the housekeeper when you leave. A very hard worker and very proud of her job. Theres a well stocked over priced refrigerator and snack bar. Watch it it could become a huge added expense.

Don't rent a car in The City. Use their public transportation. Parking is a huge hassle. MUNI and Trolley/Cable Cars you can buy in a pass up to 7 days. The Visitors Center on Market street (close by) you can buy a pass for $59 it includes transportation for all the above plus 6 entrance fees for all sorts of places!! Well worth it!! Cruise on the Bay, Presido, Art Museum, Aquarium,Science Museums all great exhibits. Lots to see. There is shopping everywhere. Resturants of all types and nationalities within walking distance. Average meal that is fresh food between $10-20.

Lovely S
great hotel I've booked in San Francisco
Before I came here and saw the hotel I had booked, I had been so worried how it would be. Because I knew that where I was going to stay was really important and eventually it would determine my trip anyway. However, as soon as I arrived here and looked over my room, my worries disappeared. The room was spacious, clean, cozy.. I don't know how to explain it, but everything was well equipped! The location of this hotel is pretty great. It is located near the Union Square and Powell st, where the cable car starts and where Bart station is. The cost of staying this hotel was a little expensive for me because I stayed here for by myself and spent 5 days. Other than that, my experience at this hotel was beyond my expectation! I'm very satisfied with what I had while I was staying here.

Highly recommended hotel
Great location, all major amenities, well appointed rooms, clean. Although my first time at a Kimpton Hotel, it will not be the last. I enjoyed my stay during what turned out to be a rainy cold week, when I had to spend more time indoors than anticipated. The wine tastings in the evenings were particularly welcome.

Nothing but Good
Given that I arrived at the hotel very tired and grumpy from a delayed flight, I expected that I would be rather hard to please. However, once the door to my cab opened at the entrance my mood underwent a rapid transition that began with the doorman getting me to laugh and culminated in crawling into a very clean and comfortable bed for a sound sleep. I have no complaints about this hotel at all. It had a relaxing and enjoyable feel to it and I very much appreciated that the hotel was a well renovated classic. When I was in a bind getting copies of a presentation made, the desk staff ([...] and [...]) were endlessly helpful and cheerfully supportive. I will be looking for a Kimpton Hotel wherever I travel next. Thank you.
