Their century old pensione-style hotel is steeped in Victorian Old-World charm. From the moment you ascend the first set of stairs to Registration you feel as if you were leaving the real world and entering a unique piece of history. Life was a bit different in the old-days, and they haven't changed very much since then. The shared bath facilities feature pull-chain toilets and a claw-foot bathtub. These facilities, located in various locations around the hotel, are rigorously cleaned daily and are private when in use with a lock on the inside. The halls display decades of history and the shelves feature an ever rotating library of books and periodicals. Two massage chairs add comfort and relaxation to your busy day of traveling or touring. Their Front Desk offers concierge services if you should need to inquire about tours or tickets, restaurant recommendations, or to book shuttles to the airport, among many other things. The hotel offers complimentary Wi-Fi to connect you to the outside world when you need it. There are coin-operated laundry facilities on-site. Parking is available for an additional fee off-site. Pets are allowed on a case-by-case basis and a cleaning fee applies per night per pet. Hotel is a non-smoking property, a cleaning fee will be applied for smoking in the room. For the adventurous, or the curious, the San Remo Hotel will delight your senses and expand your horizons.

Dining

Fior D'Italia
This Old-World Italian restaurant pairs nicely with the Old-World Charm of the hotel. Chef Gianni Audieri cooks up dishes he remembers as a child. Serving lunch and dinner on ground floor, the staff will make you feel as if you were whisked away to the countryside of Italy. The Fior D'Italia also features a lounge & bar to relax for a drink after a long day of traveling or touring. The bar itself was shipped from the east by way of Cape Horn, the same path many explorers took to find the Jewel of the Bay: San Francisco.
Pat's Cafe
Pat's Cafe features delicious home-cooked breakfasts with Pat's own special touch. Just outside of the box, her personality and her food are one of SF's best kept secrets. A favorite of guests, Pat's Cafe serves breakfast and lunch only a block away from the hotel. When you see the colorful facade and famous red clog's, you know you're there.
Caffe Capriccio
Across the street from the hotel is a quaint and cozy little cafe with a red awning that serves up excellent coffee and delicious food for breakfast and lunch. Open early for that first cup of Joe, Caffe Capriccio is the perfect spot for a light breakfast before a day on the town.

Great location!

This hotel is about what we expected--shared bathrooms and showers with small rooms. Overall, however things were great. The best part is the quick and easy and convenient location close to Fishermans Warf! We only had to walk short distances to main public transportation, food and grocery places and the warf.

Close and cozy

The room was very small but was just fine for our needs. The toilets and showers are down the hall but they were clean and well kept. The beds were nice and the room had a small sink in the corner.

Left my heart in San Francisco, without braking the bank

I ran the Rock N Roll San Francisco half marathon and needed a place to stay, without being too expensive. This is the second year that I've stayed in this hotel, highly recommend it. Not the typical hotel, no tv, shared restroom, shared showers, communal sink but this hotel is extremely charming and close to everything I needed for the day. Trolley station and Fisherman's Wharf is within blocks. Good night rest for a day, old city charm and comfy bed to rest your legs.

San Remo

The hotel gives you the bare minimums. Yes it is historic and has good location, but the walls were so thin I could hear someone cough in a room across the hall. In addition, there is a restaurant directly beneath the hotel, so until it closes you'll be blessed with the obnoxious banging of dishes and carts not to mention you'll be able to clearly make out every word of the conversations the workers are making down there.

Cheao hotel, North Beach close to the Wharf

This is a bare bones hotel. Shared batch arrangement works well and things are reasonably put together. Location near end of Cable Car (Powell-Mason) and close to the Wharf makes this a great location. Hotel could use some be a little cleaner

delightful stay for our last night in California

This was a lovely quaint European style hotel, and worked perfectly for our needs. We loved the character of the place, and were very comfortable despite the small room. Especially great was the location, within walking distance of many sights, both tourist draws and local color.

Do not recommend

Only two restrooms per floor to share with the whole floor of rooms. Very small room with a small bed. No television if that is important. Also the walls are extremely thin. You hear everything going on and being said in the surrounding rooms around you or in the hall. The hotel does provide ear plugs, but only muffles some of the noise.

Be prepared

This is advertised as a "European style" hotel, which I presume it means it doesn't have an elevator or air conditioning & the rooms are very, very small, just barely large enough for a queen size bed. It also means you share bathroom & shower. However, & in spite of these draw backs (after we got over the shock of having to drag our heavy suitcases up 2 flights of stairs) we really found it very quaint & comfortable. There is good ventilation in the old building built in 1906 right after the earthquake. The halls are very cleverly (cutely?) decorated & everything is immaculate. There is a big claw foot bath tub which is very relaxaing as well as several showers, toilets & lavatories. I would book it again but not in really hot weather.
