Their century old pensione-style hotel is steeped in Victorian Old-World charm. From the moment you ascend the first set of stairs to Registration you feel as if you were leaving the real world and entering a unique piece of history. Life was a bit different in the old-days, and they haven't changed very much since then. The shared bath facilities feature pull-chain toilets and a claw-foot bathtub. These facilities, located in various locations around the hotel, are rigorously cleaned daily and are private when in use with a lock on the inside. The halls display decades of history and the shelves feature an ever rotating library of books and periodicals. Two massage chairs add comfort and relaxation to your busy day of traveling or touring. Their Front Desk offers concierge services if you should need to inquire about tours or tickets, restaurant recommendations, or to book shuttles to the airport, among many other things. The hotel offers complimentary Wi-Fi to connect you to the outside world when you need it. There are coin-operated laundry facilities on-site. Parking is available for an additional fee off-site ($18+ tax). Pets are allowed on a case-by-case basis and a cleaning fee applies per night per pet. Hotel is a non-smoking property, a cleaning fee will be applied for smoking in the room. For the adventurous, or the curious, the San Remo Hotel will delight your senses and expand your horizons.

Dining

Fior D'Italia
This Old-World Italian restaurant pairs nicely with the Old-World Charm of the hotel. Chef Gianni Audieri cooks up dishes he remembers as a child. Serving lunch and dinner on ground floor, the staff will make you feel as if you were whisked away to the countryside of Italy. The Fior D'Italia also features a lounge & bar to relax for a drink after a long day of traveling or touring. The bar itself was shipped from the east by way of Cape Horn, the same path many explorers took to find the Jewel of the Bay: San Francisco.
Pat's Cafe
Pat's Cafe features delicious home-cooked breakfasts with Pat's own special touch. Just outside of the box, her personality and her food are one of SF's best kept secrets. A favorite of guests, Pat's Cafe serves breakfast and lunch only a block away from the hotel. When you see the colorful facade and famous red clog's, you know you're there.
Caffe Capriccio
Across the street from the hotel is a quaint and cozy little cafe with a red awning that serves up excellent coffee and delicious food for breakfast and lunch. Open early for that first cup of Joe, Caffe Capriccio is the perfect spot for a light breakfast before a day on the town.

good deal for the price

Overall all was good. The room was just small and so it felt a bit limited. Staff were nice and friendly.

Nice but small.

The location is good and the price is good, but this comes with some sacrifices. For someone that wants a clean place to stay but is on a budget, this is a great place to stay.

Great stay

I only stayed at the San Remo for one night, but it was lovely -- the room was neat & the format was awesome. I was initially concerned about "sharing a bathroom" -- but it was nice, as everything was always super clean and orderly, and just down the hall. I felt like I was boarding at a home from yesteryear! Location is also good & for the money, you really can't beat it. Plus WiFi was free!

Great location, AWFUL bed

My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night as a crash pad after my company holiday party near the Wharf. Likely won't be staying here again. Pros: -The location was incredible - we only had to walk for 10 minutes to get to Pier 35. -The decor is very cute. -Staff were very friendly for check-in/out. -Free jar of red vines at the coffee and water station! Cons: -While we knew in advance about the communal bathroom, it's still off-putting to wake up in the middle of the night and go down the hallway to a restroom which somebody else has already made a mess of (puddles on the toilet room floor? Nooooooo thank you.) -The bed. Dear god, the bed. It was the hardest mattress I have ever felt, and add to it that it's a full size with a metal bedframe at the head and foot. We're both around 6'1" so we had to bend in awkward directions to even fit on it, and we left the next day with back and neck pain (not kidding).

Welcome To Your Home-Away-From-Home, Right Off The Beaten Path

Upon checking into the San Remo Hotel, You'll get the feel that you're truly being welcomed into a friend's home-your open, unlocked, room awaits you with its warm, comforting charm and cozy, maximal use of minimal space. The San Remo is a best kept little secret in San Francisco's casual tourist market, with it's tastefully, old-time furnishings, décor, and prime location with a minimal price, only blocks from some of the most prime real estate in the entire US! If you're looking for 5-star, modern hotel with room service, then go pay 5x as much up the street at The Hilton, but if you're looking for warm, welcoming, accommodations within a 5 minute walk to The Wharf, don't mind a shared, but private bathroom and a staff that is 2nd to none, then The San Remo Is For You! Their free borrow library, coffee, lemonade, candies and warmed towels by the shower/sinks and decorative flair can't be beat! Yes, the rooms are a bit small, but if you're spending enough time in your room in San Francisco to worry about the size of your room, then you're doing it WRONG! Honestly, I can't even remember if we had a tv in our room, and I could care less-it was a quiet, cozy, comfortable room, with a very safe and secure hotel layout-worst thing that happened is when I walked to the bathroom in the night and touched a woman in my path because I can't see my hand in front of my face without my contacts in and was feeling my way around. I hope she was cute, because I think I startled both of us-maybe she didn't have her contacts in either?! Great hotel, great location and best kept little secret I've found in San Francisco. I wouldn't stay at The Hilton even if they dropped the price by 4/5, I've been there before and sincerely, PREFER THE SAN REMO HOTEL! THANK YOU SO MUCH TO THE HOTEL'S STAFF AND MANAGEMENT FOR MAKING IT A GREAT SF EXPERIENCE!!! PS: If you're the woman I grabbed in the night (by accident, I swear) & you're cute, please feel free to contact me, if you're ugly, then just continue to let me believe you were cute and don't bother contacting me. My wife just hit me for that last part, but agrees with the rest-so next time I'll meet you at The San Remo, Alone?!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

TIP YOUR HOTEL STAFF, THEY WORK VERY HARD TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A MOST PLEASANT STAY AND IT'S AN EXPENSIVE TOWN FOR ANYONE TO LIVE AND THE HOTEL CAN'T PAY THEM THAT MUCH AND STILL KEEP THE PRICES THAT LOW (I'M GUESSING), SO BE GENEROUS. TRADER JOE'S IS RIGHT UP THE ROAD BY ABOUT 2 BLOCKS, SO WE BOUGHT SNACKS/FRUIT TO SAVE ON EATING OUT COSTS AND ROSS IS 2 BLOCKS UP FROM THAT IF YOU FORGOT TO PACK ANY CLOTHES-OVERALL SAN REMO HAS A GREAT LOCATION!!!

Cute Hotel

We were in town for a week and the history of the hotel was enough..... Cute little place would stay again... We were late arrival and staff was very nice and friendly the whole stay. There is the shared bathrooms but we never once had to wait to either shower or use the restroom...

Great getaway

This is the second time we have stayed here. Location is perfect for visiting the tourist destinations in San Francisco. Near cable cars, F line and Fisherman's Wharf. Easy to get around the city and very reasonable prices. Staff is fantastic. With shared bath facilities, this may not be for everyone, but the facilities were spotless no matter what time of day.

San Remo Hotel

The location is excellent, a short walk to Fisherman's Wharf and a short walk to North Beach and Chinatown. The rooms are very clean. Shared baths (and sinks in cheapest rooms) were no problem, with chocolates, raisins, soaps, towels provided, and the staff willing to provide information. This is European style with lots of Europeans knowing about it. What a bargain in this overpriced city.

Amazing and Affordable!

My husband and I stayed for one night and it was incredible. The rooms are small but for the price and location it was perfect for one or two travelers (who spends that much time in their hotel anyway). The shared bathrooms/showers were clean as were the rooms and we could walk just about everywhere from the hotel. The staff (especially Brian) we're so welcoming and helpful, giving us tips on public transportation and making us feel right at home. If you are looking for a historic, affordable and safe place to stay near Fishermna's Wharf, this is the place!

Great location!

This hotel is about what we expected--shared bathrooms and showers with small rooms. Overall, however things were great. The best part is the quick and easy and convenient location close to Fishermans Warf! We only had to walk short distances to main public transportation, food and grocery places and the warf.
