SF Marriott on Sutter St

We are from New York. We arrived at the SF Marriott for check-in and wanted to get a high floor - though rooms were avail on the lower floors. [...], at the front desk was so professional and helpful. He said, have lunch, leave the luggage and we'll do our best to accomodate you. This man is what makes the SF Marriott an excellent place to stay. We came back later, our luggage was already in the room, we had the best view of Powell Street and San Francisco Bay. The beds were super clean, cozy and the room colors fit the Asian theme of this vibrant city. The doormen & porters are always with a smile and give excellent directions. You are close to Union Square shopping, Chinatown and every Zagat rated restaurant. The location is the best. In totality, we just slept here while visiting friends and relatives - but it's the best bed I've slept in. I travel extensively for business, and this was a family trip. The staff like children and always greet them sweetly and kindly. Treat yourself and stay here-it's well deserved. Say hello to [...] - he's a good man to know. We will return again.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

For a quick breakfast, go around the corner on Powell to the Cable Car Cafe for a wonderful selection of crepes and omelettes. My daughter loves Banana and Nutella crepes - and this are so much like the ones we have in Paris. There are also savory crepes and traditional American breakfasts of eggs, bacon, toast. Excellent coffee and the prices are reasonable. It was our last morning in San Francisco and we were happy to have a lovely bfast and efficient + friendly staff. Don't be put off with the do it yourself style the owner has - when you get to the counter, read the menu, he'll take your order, give you a coffee cup to fill yourself at a counter and you get your own water at another counter. The food is delivered to your table. Don't miss this place; it's a little gem! But shhhhh! don't tell too many people - you may not get a seat!

Great Location, Great Food and Atmosphere!

I had an excellent time. The hotel is situated in a perfect location. The food in the restaurants was perfect but the portion may have been just a bit too much because they left me stuffed. I also enjoyed the bar in terms of atmosphere and beverage selection. Only negative was that the I wish the gym had just a bit more equipment (bench to do crunches on) but the basics were there, treadmill, eliptical, etc..... Had a great stay! Definitely recommend it.

Greatn location

The hotel room was perfect, the staff were very kind and helpful, it was a little noisy at night but I guess it“s normal in that part of town, the location is excellent also, you could walk to chinatown and other points of interest, or you could get on the cablecar just across the street, also across the street there was a starbucks and a walgreens that really helped us out when we needed snaks or something, parking and food in the hotel were pricy, but overall it was worth it.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

About 3 or 4 blocks from the hotel there is a cable car station, where you can buy tickets and board the cablecar, we bought the city pass, it enables you to board cablecars and all MUNI transport for seven days, it also includes several tickets for museums, the aquarium, and a ride on a boat around the bay, it costs 59dlls. but it is worth that and more.

Great location and very nice service

The location of this hotel is right next to Union Square and only a few streets away from the Chinatown Gate. We went to see Wicked and walked to the theatre and back to the hotel without problem (the area around 5th and Market is dicey, but the walk was quick). The staff were especially kind and friendly. While the hotel was a bit pricier than I would like, everything else was great. The rooms were big (especially for San Francisco) and clean. Overall great experience.

The hotel does provide parking, but the rate is around $54 a night. Go just a block down to Mason, turn left (it is a one way street) and then left again into public parking. They have a rate of $27 a night.
