Nice block, bad area

My stay at the Roadway Inn Civic Center was good, but know this the area below the hotel, basically on the other side of Van Ness is a bad area where you do not want to walk through at night and was even a little creepy walking through in the morning down to Union Square only a few blocks away. Take public trasportation as much as possible. The block the hotel is on isn't as bad and the bus will take you anywhere you want to go. For the area and the price it was a much nicer room than we expected, we had to change rooms a couple of days before our trip due to flooding and our previous hotel didn't help in finding another one. The room was large I was suprised to have a mini fridge and microwave so that was nice. I might not stay here again, but it was good for last minute.

Take the 49 or 47 bus to get where you want to go, so you wont have to walk through the bad area below this hotel.

Needed a bed, got a bed

If you just need a place to crash for a night, fits the bill. No complaints at all on cleanliness. Not the kind of place to spend a vacation, but if you just need a room in this area of the city, you won't waste any money here. Bring your own alarm clock.

Yoshi's! Great restaurant, great jazz club. Proximity to Yoshi's is the only reason I got the room.

Rodeway Inn civic center review

We saw a concert at the Red Devil Lounge but it was 20 blocks away so we cabbed it for $5.00 each way. Who knows where or how much parking would've been. We always eat at the Hayes Street Grill (12 blocks away which is a medium walk or too long if you're wearing uncomfortable heels). We like staying here because of the frige & microwave in the rooms to keep your drinks cold. Free parking and there's always a spot (so far). The money we save on the hotel goes towards fine dining or clothes shopping.

Money-saving tip: Long walk from hotel

You've got to try the Hayes Street Grill. It costs about $40/plate (incl tip) but it's worth it. Get to know where the parking garages near your venues are.

Not Bad

This place is fine. What do you expect? It's a budget hotel bordering on (or in?) SF's Tenderloin district. It's easy to find (but be careful on the streets to the east of the hotel.) The rooms are OK, pretty clean, whatever. The heater works, maybe too well. I fell asleep with it on and woke up sweating at 4 am! It was tropical, so I had to crack the door and turn up the fan. If you're going big get a more expensive place, but if you just need a place to sleep, stay here.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

It's an easy walk to the hotel from the downtown bus station or from the Powell Street Amtrak bus stop. The only thing is, like I said, you have to be careful on the streets through the Tenderloin between Market and Van Ness.

Not bad for the price

If you are in need of a working elevator look elsewhere. There are a few free parking spaces at the hotel. However there is no where around to get change to feed the meters. Heater in room didn't work all that well. Beds were ok. Great place for the price if you are just looking for somewhere to sleep. If interested in any amenities look elsewhere.
