Party hotel

Very cool hotel. Great staff. VERY LOUD. Don't go here if you're trying to get a good night's sleep. I think they start enforcing quiet hours at midnight though. When we arrived there was a bumpin pool party going on. Come here if you're wanting to rage.

Hip oasis in the Tenderloin

The Phoenix was great fun. Friendly, helpful staff, interesting clientele, a great bar at the hotel. The Tenderloin has its rough edges and isn't for everyone, but the location of the Phoenix is central and convenient, easy walk to BART and other conveyances. This is a nice place to stay.

Hidden Wifi Charges

The room was fine with a nice pool. Loved the overall experience. However the Wifi was charge per session, yes, every time me or my family got on the WiFi it cost 7 dollars. That added up to an extra 60 bucks tacked on to the room charges. I think it would be nicer to provide free WIFI or at least a flat rate. That is the only reason this hotel only got 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 stars. Besides the pay per session for internet the hotel is a gem at the edge of the legendary San Francisco Tenderloin District.

It was a perfect get away!

I was in town to see a concert at the Regency Ballroom and I chose the Phoenix because it was a good price and close to the venue. I couldn't have asked for more! I took the train to San Francisco, so I was on foot once I arrived to the bus stop down town. When I found the Phoenix, it was only noon, but the staff found me a clean room and let me check in early. The room was clean, it even smelled clean. The design of the room and wall hangings were very hip to the old rock n roll history of the Phoenix. The bed was so comfortable and had lots of pillows, which is a plus for me! The front staff even called the room about 20 minutes after I arrived to make sure the room was to my liking and that I had everything I needed. I didn't use the pool, but it was beautiful and the sitting areas were amazingly inviting. I will definitely be staying here again the next time I'm in town.

Rockstar Vibe

You can see it in all the other reviews, hotel is great and has that rock star vibe but you must be willing to enjoy the view of homeless folks peeing in the streets, sleeping on the sidewalk or yelling out a rant at 6am! Walls are a little thin - you either enjoy the show or you ARE the show! :) The Staff was very polite - and you can't beat the Chambers Eat + Drink on site - grab a cocktail and chill by the pool or absorb the vibe. If you enjoy adventures and want something outside of your typical tourist SF stay, Phoenix is the place!

Cool place, thin walls, gross neighborhood

Really liked this hotel though the walls are a bit thin (and we had a noisy couple next door!) The pool area is beautiful. The room (standard king) was very nice, clean, modern, and comfortable (comfy bed). The restaurant/bar on premises was fantastic - great food and drinks (FYI - closed on Monday). Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Now - the neighborhood... gross. It was like this great little hotel sitting in the middle of a homeless urinal. While there are a few vietnamese and thai places within the block or so - plan on walking several blocks for food or shopping - and to escape the stench of urine and constantly being hit up for cash. I know SF has always had a homeless problem but it seems especially bad in that part of the Tenderloin. Kinda sad too - as I think this is really is a cute place to stay... just don't leave the grounds...

Oasis in the Tenderloin

Loved the hotel; hated the neighborhood. Good stuff first - beautiful grounds with a heated pool. Wonderful hip bar and the appetizers were amazing. Very unique and top quality food. Professional and friendly staff. There was a crochet artist installation the weekend we were there that added to the overall hip experience. The bar was hopping until the wee hours of the night both Thursday and Friday that made me wish I was 30 years younger. There were also a smattering of really good Vietnemese restaurants nearby. The bad -the neighborhood was full of homeless people who were not afraid to use the sidewalk as a toilet. Luckily the smell of marijuana covered up the other smell.
