Welcome to San Francisco's newest and greenest hotel - the Orchard Garden Hotel. Newly built in the heart of San Francisco, the Orchard Garden Hotel is California's first generation of truly green hotels - the only hotel built to the nationally accepted standards for green buildings developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The hotel is a short stroll from Union Square shops and theaters, blocks away from the Financial District deal makers and San Francisco's legendary cable cars, and just steps from the Chinatown Gates.
The hotel's dedication to sustaining the environment is only surpassed by a commitment to service with a hospitality team that is ready to assist you with every need from valet parking, to concierge assistance, to complimentary morning Town Car service.

Just one problem. In general it was nice.

I had reserved 2 bedrooms. One with 1 king bed for my friends and one with 2 double beds for my family. They charged me 108 ... for the king bed and 160 for the 2 double beds. Because of a reason, they gave me two rooms with one king bed in each one of them. So my kids slept in a sofa. They charged me though the above rates even if it was their fault. I paid a 2 double beds room but I got a 1 King bed room instead

"Nice Little Hideaway In Downtown SF"
Ang Nov 2, 2009
In SF on business, hotel located a half a block from the Training Facility I attended. Hotel staff was very friendly and ... attentive to our needs. We were able to check in early after a long flight. Rooms are small but very comfortable. Beds are awesome (high thread count sheets, pillow top matresses, and down comforters.) It felt like we were sleeping in my own bed. Bathroom is spacious and extremely clean (granite countertops - a plus.) Only thing we did not care for was the cold air vent at the head of the bed. It blew cold air all night. We had to cover it at night. All in all, it was a very nice hotel for the price and we would stay there again.

This hotel was within walking distance to many restaurants and shops. It sits above 30' - 40' from the entrance to Chinatown at Bush/Grant Streets. It is also within walking distance to Cable cars, BART, and most public transportation. No need to rent a car. Parking is quite expensive and unnecessary if you are staying downtown.

Though Union Square/Financial district is not supposed to have the "amazing" SF food, we ended up there 2 out of 3 nights. Colibri- GREAT, upscale mexican on Geary; Slanted Door at the Ferry Building; and a find: Perbacco- a local-ist Italian place on California.

I was in town for a conference at the Moscone Center and hadn't heard of this hotel before, but was able to get a room when ... many others in the area were booked. What a treat! It was a quaintly elegant atmosphere, with very friendly and attentive staff, a wonderfully comfortable bed, and completely easy to walk to! I was so pleased to stay here and I definitely will return when I'm in the city again.

Stayed for 3 nights in room 702. This is the best location. Literally right outside gates of Chinatown, fantastic dining all ... around, Union Square and lots of shopping all over. The hotel staff was helpful..bartender very nice and offered our free appetizer when I ordered glass of wine. Appetizers are not what you would expect. Could have ordered a salad or soup. We chose garlic/parmessean fries which were incredible! Room had everything we needed and was super clean. Bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I have slept in and we travel alot! Stay here. You won't be sorry.

We enjoyed every moment's rest in our clean, quiet and comfortable room. The bed did not leave us wishing we were in our own ... at home. The linens, comforter, pillows and mattress were all top quality. The details of the room like the complimentary EO essential oil soaps and an ipod dock were nice, thoughtful "extras". Being a "green" hotel made our stay more pleasant knowing that they are striving be environmentally savvy. We'll stay here again and recommend it to everyone.

Wonderful Stay
Lauren foodie Aug 20, 2009
We spent a lovely couple days in San Francisco, exploring the city for the first time. The Orchard Garden Hotel was perfect: ... it's a few blocks from Market, right next to Chinatown/NorthBeath and Union Square. We had great service- directions, restaurant suggestions, help getting out to the airport, etc. The rooms were very nice, extremely clean, and the bed/comforter was just out of this world comfortable. Really, we have no complaints, it was awesome!

This was a great hotel for a child-less couple's first trip to San Francisco. We took the BART from the Airport, and walked a ... few blocks to the hotel. It's located close to Union Square and Chinatown, which means that it's really in the heart of the city. We got a great deal on our room and stayed 3 nights. The only downside was that the front desk service was lacking. There were simply not enough people around to cater to the needs of the guests. We waited to check in, and was subsquently checked in by a manager who had already clocked out (and changed clothes and was trying to get out the door). Check out was very easy though. The rooms were a little on the small side, but the bathroom was nice and the bed and linens were comfortable. there were great eating options close by, and that was great. One other weird thing, the returant is IN the lobby. There is also a little bit of a weird statue in the front lobby, but other than that. The hotel was great!

Overall the staff was excellent and took care of my requested needs very promptly and in a friendly manner. However, the ... front desk forgot to make my shuttle van reservation as requested (face to face request) several hours prior to going to the airport. The bellman took care of the problem by promptly calling a taxis and paid for the fare. This one of the best hotels that I have stayed in and would recommend to other travelers.

A Green Hotel was a great experience
Helen O Aug 4, 2009
We spent our time sight seeing San Francisco. We used the hotel as a place to stay only. The hotel room and the staff were ... great. There are only two complaints. The first one had to do with the coffee pot in the room. I never mastered using it. When I poured water into the container, invariably some came out onto the tray. The other complaint was the relatively high price for the Continental breakfast which consisted of coffee, toast and perhaps juice was also included for a price of $15.00 which may be typical in San Francisco hotels. I don't know.

There is a great "Irish Bank" restaurant not far from the hotel. The food, beer, and service are excellent. Prices are quite reasonable. Looks like a restaurant where the locals go, definitely not the tourists.

Overall it was an amazing hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable the room was very clean. I have no complaints just a ... couple suggestions. I would put some type of rack in the shower for toiletries and I would revise the happy hour prices a happy hour martini was $12 you get a free appetizer but the drinks are why we find happy hours. However again it was a gorgeous hotel and I would definitely stay there again.

Boudin Bakery and restaurant had an awesome happy hour Mon-Fri 4-7pm $5 martinis etc and it was a really classy place.

You definitely can find some great restaurants in Chinatown, but take advantage of Roots in the hotel at least once. The food is organic and really well prepared.

--bob, seattle Jul 13, 2009
As much as possible, pick out a few dining spots before heading out. We tend to just roam and hope to stumble upon something, and we're usually lucky, but with all the choices it's easy to spend all your time wandering and searching when you'd rather be eating, drinking, shopping, and sight-seeing.
--KJ, Charlottesville, VA Jul 9, 2009
Chinatown is right around the corner, and the BART station just a few blocks away, if you keep walking down it gets more crowded and there are many shopping centers, it is close to third street were you grab most of the buses that will take you to the big attractions, Coit Tower, Fisherman's Wharf, and even the Golden Gate Bridge

Definately check out the transit system (MUNI). The staff can tell you where to buy day passes that will save a lot of money over cab fare and the buses/cable cars/street cars go all over the city. Get your passes early as they include cable cars.

For excellent French bistro style food and atmosphere, try Cafe de la Presse, opposite the hotel on Bush Street. For extraordinary Dim Sum, try Yank Sing at 45 Stevenson Street--a 10-block walk from the hotel but well worth the effort.

Forget the rental car, the hotel is centrally located to all forms of public transport. San Francisco is a great walking city and its the only way to truly get to know the many distinct neighborhoods.
