The heaven, the hell was the smell

enjoy the ambience of san francisco the culture and concerts. time , you'll need more of it for the streets of san francisco. I enjoy life and the living, the world is my perish however, some hotels have a better sense of smell that can be offensive to other incoming guest...air out those funky bedspreads or something

Nice stay at the Orchard Garden

The location - a couple of blocks to Union Square and right at the gates to Chinatown - was perfect for our visit to San Francisco. The rooms were really nice! They were very clean and we liked being able to be a little more green while on vacation. The rooms were also very quiet - no noise from the hallway or from outside. We had a chance to enjoy the rooftop garden for our own private happy hour one afternoon - very nice touch. We got a great rate from Orbitz, and they ended up upgrading one of our rooms when we checked in to a king junior suite.

Green is Good

We rode BART from SFO to the Montgomery Station, then walked the half-dozen blocks to the hotel. It's a good, central location for exploring Union Square, downtown and SOMA, and for riding the Powell Street cable car if that's your thing. The hotel has a nice little business center and the restaurant is attractive, though we chose to eat elsewhere. Our 7th-floor room was quiet and completely comfortable, and we felt good about staying in an establishment that is environmentally friendly across the board. They even ordered a "green" car service (Prius) for our early-morning dash to the airport to catch a 6 a.m. flight. Two green thumbs up for the hotel and all who work there!

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

For excellent French bistro style food and atmosphere, try Cafe de la Presse, opposite the hotel on Bush Street. For extraordinary Dim Sum, try Yank Sing at 45 Stevenson Street--a 10-block walk from the hotel but well worth the effort.

Superb San Francisco downtown hotel

Traveling with my teenage son exploring San Francisco for two days. Dropped the car at the airport and took BART to Kearny street (25 min), walked four blocks and arrived at the Orchard Garden. Upgraded (without asking) to a room with a street view. The room was contemporary in design, two very comfortable double beds, great room layout, comfortable and well supplied bathroom. Fantastic room for the price. Hotel location was PERFECT for a walking tour of SF, steps from the Chinatown gate, 4 blocks from Market street, shopping and the powell street cablecar. Walked to North Beach (15min), walked to Coit Tower(20), Fisherman's Wharf(30 min). There is a restaurant in the hotel however we did not eat there. Hotel staff were very helpful and pleasant during our stay. I travel frequently and highly recommend this hotel for both recreation and business travelers. It reminds me of many European and Asian boutique hotels. Overall very happy with our stay and can recommend for the individual, couples or families with older children who are looking for a central downtown hotel with a friendly and comfortable environment.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Forget the rental car, the hotel is centrally located to all forms of public transport. San Francisco is a great walking city and its the only way to truly get to know the many distinct neighborhoods.

Nice hotel, great location

Very close to all the restaurants and shops in Union Square, at the gates of Chinatown. Parking will cost you $40/day so you may want to self-park somewhere else if you have a car. We got a great deal through Orbitz but ended up in a handicap interior room (no view), could swich due to the rate.

An enjoyable stay!

A very nice, modern hotel with a true European flair. Flat screen TVs, very comfortable beds, and accommodating service. At the entrance to China Town and a few short blocks to Union Square. A real surprise was that it is only doors away from the French Consulate and many wonderful French bistros and restaurants.

Wonderful for Tourists

Great location right next to Chinatown, walking distance to Union Square and a few blocks from a trolley stop - easy to hop on and hop off once you get the hang of it! Room was very clean and bright, but not very spacious. Staff was very helpful and warm throughout our stay.
