Disastrous experience this time
We have stayed here at least 8 times and always been delighted. This time so many things went wrong my husband now refuses to go back. TV sound only worked for less than half the channels; one key was the wrong one for our room; toilet wouldn't flush just before we checked out. BUT by far the worst (and the only thing worth mention really) was a gang of eastern European hooligans who screamed a the top of their lungs right outside our door for hours - literally - in the middle of the night. They also banged on our door (and others I assume) which was frightening. Anyway we lost a night's sleep. Upon checkout next morning the clerk told me the "night auditor" ( we didn't think anyone was on duty) finally called the cops and they hauled the jerks off to jail. It took WAY too long for anyone to do anything about this though.

Old but livable
The furnishings and bed were kind of old and the place was a bit run down, but livable. Surprisingly, they had a nice flat screen TV in the room though. The carpets and bedding seemed fairly worn and dated. The biggest things this place has going for it is the free parking and central location!

Second stay for us
We like to stay at this location because we love to walk. You can be to the cable car in 10 minutes. Rooms are very dated but equally as clean. Breakafst is fruit, donuts and packaged pastries so no real savings there. BUT once we park our car for FREE, we don't get in it again until we leave.

Short walk from hotel
Buena Vista for Irish Coffee is historic and a must. Take the cable car to the ending near the wharf and it is to your left as you exit. Take the cable car in to Union Square for 100's of dining and shopping options. People watching is always great and this city is cleaner now than ever - always feel very safe at night too.

centrally located convenience
The free parking spaces are very tight, but once I parked the car, I did not need it the rest of the trip. Nob Hill is located on Pacific Ave. which is basically the top of the hill, so you can start every day with a downhill stroll. Most of the cool neighborhoods with great food are within a mile. My wife thought the bed was hard, and donuts were not a good free breakfast, but was pleased with the cleanliness and linens.

Decent hotel for the price
Loud. It is a good idea to request a room on the third floor. Free parking is definitely a plus.

Overall clean and safe place; Needs commute
My wife and I stayed here while visiting San Francisco. The place is pretty clean, and in a safe area. However if you plan on sightseeing etc, you will need to use the Muni (bus system) to get anywhere (unless you plan on driving....Muni is prob easier as parking in SF can be a pain). Bus stations are nearby, as is CVS and Walgreens. "Continental breakfast" was advertised, but this is really just a packaged pastry and OJ or Coffee. I don't consider that continental. The room was clean, although the bathroom had some drainage issues - I informed the front desk on checkout and they were receptive and noted they'll look into it. Good cable channels. Not much view from the hotel. The staff was nice and held our bags for us on the last day, so we didn't have to walk around with them until we were ready to go to the airport. Overall - we found this to be a good deal because we were okay with taking the bus, and the place was in a safe area, and had a good price compared to other places that are closer to the main attractions. Those are much more expensive.

Time-saving tip:
Not Applicable
When planning your day/schedule, be sure to include some buffer time if you are using the Muni (bus system). Sometimes the buses don't arrive as scheduled, and there were multiple times we saw 2 buses appear at a stop (as opposed to 15 mins after each other).

An excellent hotel for cheap!
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! Every day the staff came and cleaned our room and replaced our towels. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. The hotel was in a great location with several restaurants, bars, and coffee shops in the area. Not to mention most attractions were between a fifteen to thirty minute walk away. We also felt completely safe walking around the area at night. One note of caution, if you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs, people often slammed their doors and stomped around the outside walk way in the morning.

Clean and Safe
We have stayed at this hotel several times. It has always been clean and decent. It's old and there are no frills but the location is great and parking is either included with your room or you pay about 10 bucks extra. We love the location because if you are active, you can walk to almost everywhere. If you have a large truck, you will have difficulty parking in the narrow stalls.
