Good for what it is.
The hotel is good for what it is -a small hotel located in the heart of San Francisco. Everything was adequate and the price was great. But the victorian hook is hardly anything to brag about.

NO ROOM AT THE INN
I arrived in San Francisco at 11pm did not get to the Nob Hill Hotel until 12 midnite, and was told that they had no record of my booking. Instead of immediately finding me a room I was asked to wait until 1 30am to see if another guest was going to arrive, if Not I could have that room. Mind you I am from the east coast so to me this is like 3am. I had to walk the streets of SF till 1 am and was told at that time, I could have the room, so I go up to the room, then get a call immediately, that the guest arrived and I will have to go to their sister hotel. So the hotel did pay for my cab fare which was nice but was shipped to a very small room at their sister hotel. The best thing about this hotel was the location which was better for me. The initial room for the first nite was like a closet, but I was then moved to a bigger room, which was clean and on a busy steet so noise level was loud at times. They did offer breakfast which was nice, however, the room where we ate was often full of fruit flies all over the food not a pleasant thing to see. The health facility offer is non existent, so not sure why that is even mentioned in their ad.. Other than these concerns the trip was nice, and the hotel was fine considering the evening I arrived, the rooms were cleaned everyday, and I did like the location.

The first day we arrived we went to see our daughter who lives in the area. On the way back we heard and saw a lot of fire engines and police going somewhere. This turned out to be the Hotel. A fire had started on the roof and the top floor of the hotel building. It was cold but we couldn't get back into the hotel for several hours. The fire turned out to be minor. However, the hotel did smell of smoke for several days, the television didn't work at all becasue of the fire and the windows, into common areas, were kept open to get rid of the smell. People who booked directly with the hotel were given credit or other things. The hotel did offer to make accomodations somewhere else if we wanted. We decided to stay. Since we had prepaid through [...] the hotel was not able to give us what was offered to others. They did allow us to stay one day for free, over our original booking. The Hotel was in a good location for us and we walked just about everywhere while staying there. The room we had was on the smaller side, though it had everything we needed.

Get close to the Heart of San Francisco
The hotel is located approx 10 mins walk from Union square, however note some of the hills are steep in san francisco. The price is very good for the location compared with the bigger chains. The hotel is clean but a little tired in its appearence with bathrooms (the usual grouting and tile type issue)and carpets etc needing a refresh Being in a centre it can be noisy with the sound of city life, there is no secondary glazing or air con so windows need to be open and hence the noise is noticable. The staff were mainly very helpful, although the reception on arrival was slow and suggested we were unexpected, however we ended up with an extra room for the same price to accomodate the family group. the breakfast is simple but helps to save a few dollars during the trip.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Eat on the top floor at Macys department store in Union Square. I would not usually recommend a chain but the cheesecake factory is a great location and reasonably priced. You will need to walk back afterwards to use some of the calories if you have the cheesecake!

San Francisco Thanksgiving Visit 2009
The front desk staff were very nice and helpful - especially [...]. Nice location within walking distance of alot of sights. The rooms were small but enjoyable and comfortable. The interior is in need of some cosmetic maintenance. No fan in the bathroom resulted in some humidity after showering. Windows can be opened but do not lock in place - watch your fingers! The continental breakfast was good (coffee, juice, milk, cereal, danish, bagels and bread) with a small variation each day. Location was small dining room (capacity of 20?) that offers what seems to be a very nice lunch and dinner menu. Small lobby with extremely limited lounge area. Did not patrtake in the nightly wine tasting.

The hotel was in a great location and service. The staff was WONDERFUL!! What we had a problem with was the heat. The rooms were too hot and no way to adjust it. The windows did not have children safety so they can just fall. No security lock on the doors. Great for 2 adults. Not recommended for families with young children. We will be back again but without the kids.

so so
this hotel is in the area known at TenderNob, near Tenderloin & Nob Hill. Not much around of interest without a decent walk. Not the most convenient area. Hotel is old & a bit claustrophobic. The fridge make alot of noise & when the heating starts up you really wonder if there is a train coming through the room. The wake up call system is running an hour early really did't appreciate the 4.30am wake up. Not the worst but a long way from the best.

Quiet, reasonably priced, but no AC
Pleasant and helpful staff, great location. Rooms were clean but ours had too much "stuff" that made the space feel small and cramped. Two bureaus, antique desk, nightstand, fridge, coffeemaker, and antique beds with huge metal feet that were a tripping hazard. Loved the location and ambiance, good value especially for young couples wanting an affordable traditional hotel with a good location. Bonus was a great italian restaurant next door!

NYC Guy.
Quaint, historic, but tiny.
There was nothing particularly wrong with the room. Very quaint, but not good for business use. The room was so small there was not even a table or a chair in it. One of those tiny ironing boards you had to put on the bed to touch up shirts before business meetings. There was no closet and no hangers. One small bottle of shampoo and one small bar of soap. Not great ventilation. There was free internet access which was nice and it was quiet. This would work great for the price if you are in town to relax and be a tourist. Note that the only parking is a public lot around the corner - $20 for an overnight stay. To sum up - pretty, historic place - not good for business travel.
