Pleasant

For the price, the hotel was quite comfortable, with friendly staff and just about all that you'd expect from a hotel room. Included was complimentary breakfast every morning (toast, cereal, croissants, coffee/tea and juice), free wine tasting in the evening, and a small indoor fitness center. I also got a free upgrade to a larger sized bed, and was able to check in early. The staff were friendly and helpful with directions, as well. When I arrived in my room (possibly because I checked in 2 hours early) the trash from the previous tenants had not yet been cleared, but I notified the front desk and it was taken care of immediately. The carpet in the room also looked somewhat stained by things like coffee or dirt, but did not have any visible gunk or gum of any sort on it. The bed was comfortable, and although the room and bathroom were small, it was decorated in an attractive vintage manner. Overall, it was a nice place to stay for my brief trip to SF. Its location in the heart of downtown and the friendliness of the staff made it a great place to stay for my trip. Just be aware that you won't find quite the same level of room services as larger hotels, and that the location is not in the best neighborhood (though not terrible either).

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

This hotel is between 0.5 to 2 miles of most of the major tourist attractions (Fisherman's Wharf, Japantown, Chinatown, Union Square, BART station) and I simply walked everywhere I went. However, a few destinations such as the California Academy of Sciences will require taking a bus, unless you want to walk for about an hour and a half.

San Fran

Hotel was beautiful, very Victorian but the room was hot as hell, no breeze! After a shower just did not cool down. The front desk was not helpful at all, would not call us a cab and gave horrible directions through the worst part of town. Somehow we did survive!

a step back in time!

The hotel was quaint and very old. The elevator was one of those old gated lifts from the early 19th century. Everything was nice, but the hallway smelled VERY musty, and the walls were paper-thin. The continental breakfast was good, and the front desk staff was very accomodating with directions and even got me some tea when all that was left was coffee.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Try the Moroccan restaurant two blocks away. It's called Aicha, and they give you delicious bang for your buck! It's BYOB, so head to Napa beforehand and stock up!

The Nob Hill Hotel was like taking a step back in time. We truly appreciated the nostalgia and ate breakfast at Dotties down the street and it was delicious! The staff was very kind and helpful.

NOB HILL HOTEL

The hotel had a great location and it was easy to get around SF using the MUNI. The neighborhood south of the hotel was a little rough, but not dangerous, and the staff were extremely helpful with directions.

Good for what it is.

The hotel is good for what it is -a small hotel located in the heart of San Francisco. Everything was adequate and the price was great. But the victorian hook is hardly anything to brag about.

San Francisco Thanksgiving Visit 2009

The front desk staff were very nice and helpful - especially [...]. Nice location within walking distance of alot of sights. The rooms were small but enjoyable and comfortable. The interior is in need of some cosmetic maintenance. No fan in the bathroom resulted in some humidity after showering. Windows can be opened but do not lock in place - watch your fingers! The continental breakfast was good (coffee, juice, milk, cereal, danish, bagels and bread) with a small variation each day. Location was small dining room (capacity of 20?) that offers what seems to be a very nice lunch and dinner menu. Small lobby with extremely limited lounge area. Did not patrtake in the nightly wine tasting.

Family with 18mos & 7 yo

The hotel was in a great location and service. The staff was WONDERFUL!! What we had a problem with was the heat. The rooms were too hot and no way to adjust it. The windows did not have children safety so they can just fall. No security lock on the doors. Great for 2 adults. Not recommended for families with young children. We will be back again but without the kids.

well, it IS near the Tenderloin afterall

The Hotel is a very good value for it's location, even if I was sent to the wrong (occupied) room initially. embarrassing then--funny now. I was with friends all day and needed a place to be at night. The room was more than sufficient for that. It was warm and cozy with fridge and micro for fixing meals in,if so desired. I would caution if you do explore the area that this hotel is right at the Tenderloin District, not a good place to be alone near sunset. although I found no one aggressive or violent toward me I was uncomfortable. Walking to the north and toward market street/pier area is very nice and if you enjoy walking as I do it's a wonderful day out. I would definitely stay here again. The breakfast is limited to toast and a small selection of Danish pastries and the coffee is not hot so if there were a complaint maybe that would be it but it's not a reason not to enjoy the stay.
