Not anything outstanding
The best feature was the friendly staff which was always ready to help you. For the area the hotel was just average. The parking fee was outrageous, but then all the hotels in the area are running up to $50.00 a day if you want to valet. There are several over nite parking garages at a lower price. I would never recommend renting a car, no parking anywhere you want to go and meters are good for an hour or two.

Look around for over nite parking garages. They are much more reasonable. I would suggest just using public transportation, or walking.

Mother daughter getaway
They checked us in to a room that was smaller than we booked with a queen bed instead of a king and we had to be moved. Other than that, it was pretty good, but not great. Parking was $49 a night which was a disappointing suprise!

Monaco - San Francisco
Choose hotel for location, design and dining rooms. Was pleased on most accounts but found the housekeeping of design elements--beds, sofas, tables off center from mirrors and pictures in rooms and lobbies--very disconcerting to an interior designer (me). Need a designer to go through and freshen up the placement of furniture and design elements--cleaning staff and guests are pushing furniture and lighting around and upsetting the design balance the hotel has tried to hard to achieve. Dining rooms were appreciated and one of the reasons we chose The Monaco. Wait staff was very good but food quality was quite mediocre.

Hotel Monaco - San Francisco
The hotel is for adults who enjoy a very high quality room and very little noise from the surrounding streets. The Grand Cafe and lounge are both well appointed with a friendly and courteous staff.

Long walk from hotel
North Beach offers numerous Italian restaurants and entertainment, i.e.: Beach Blanket Babylon. To get there, it makes for a good walk for a non-athlete, it is mostly level ground.

Travel Over 50
Great Trip
The staff was incredibly friendly and always asked us about our day in the city. I had read that the rooms were small but decided against the suite. The room was small for 2 adults and 2 adult children but it was clean and interestingly decorated and we spent very little time in there anyways. The location is great, close to public transportation.

There is so much to explore in San Francisco. Buy a good travel book and plan out your days. See what type of transportation you may need and where to catch the BART, trolley cars, and buses. We did not use a rent car or a taxi all week!

Great Hotel in Union Square
We visited all the major landmarks in San Francisco. Hotel Monaco is a great location in Union Square. Easy to walk to Market street and to where the Cable Car line starts.
