Cheap for a reason...

This hotel is disgusting. As soon as you walk through the door, the smell of toxic chemicals is overwhelming; and the air inside the elevator is deadly so use at your own risk. Finally arriving at my room and guess what? They have used another toxic deodorizer to attempt to make the room pleasant. The smell irritated my nasal passages and within ten minutes, I had the worst migraine. A close inspection of the bed revealed blood stains on the linens most likely from the bed bug bites. The sheets also had body hairs all over them. When brought to the attention of hotel staff, they ignored my complaints. My recommendations are to avoid this property. If you are traveling on a budget and want an awesome place to stay, check out the Seaside Inn. It is exceptionally clean and is underpriced for the overall quality and value.

A Very Happy New Year San Fran.

Lovely hotel, with lovely friendly staff in a fantastic postion, 3 mins walk from Fort Mason Park, 10 mins from the funky shops and eateries in Chestnut Street and if you like hills, the hotel is on Octavia/Lombard St, 7 mins from the steepest wiggley one! The room is very nice. I have lived in bedsits smaller than the size of the bed and far less comfortable! Simple continental style breakfast more than adequate way to start the day. No room service but can order food in, menus provided in rooms. Will very gladly come back and stay here again.

Cozy and quaint.

I've stayed here twice. The first time was great! I had a deluxe room on the 2nd floor furthest away from Lombard Street. It was so quiet and peaceful and the room was quaint and cozy. I just came back from my second visit, and this time I had a room facing Octavia St. but closest to Lombard. It was much, much noisier. The hotel definitely needs updating in furniture (there were rips in the wallpaper, and the furniture has seen better days), but if you're looking for a decent place to stay in a beautiful area of town, this is it! ~7 minute walk to the wharf and a single bus ride away from Union Square. It's a quiet, safe neighborhood with some great restaurants around, and far away from the panhandlers in Union Square. Also, the staff is excellent! Friendly and accommodating! They'll even hold your luggage before you check in and after you check out. Note: No coffee maker or microwave in the rooms. But there's a Safeway around the corner and a Trader Joe's by the wharf. Free continental breakfast is served until 10am.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

If you have no car, catch bus 30 on Chestnut street to get to the Wharf, Chinatown, or Union Square. Drops you off within a one block radius of all these locations. To get back to the airport, arrange with the staff for airport dropoff. It was about $15 per person and a real time saver.

bedbug alert

sorry to say I woke up with bites on my neck and shoulders, and blood stains on the pillow and sheet (they got me on my knee)...Room otherwise clean, ok, modest--but I was expecting that. Location was particularly convenient for me that trip, and all else no problem. Except for those bedbugs. Without that issue, the hotel's a bargain, a good deal.

Inexpensive yet accomodating

I had a conference at a major hotel in Union Square but could not afford the hotel prices near there. Room interiors are outdated but fine for what I needed (e.g. bed, shower, tv and wireless internet). They offer a suitable continental breakfast for me (hard boiled eggs, juice, coffee, toast and fruit). The hotel was also near several good bus and trolley lines, as well as, walkable distance from fun neighborhoods like Russian Hill. I would definitely recommend it for people visiting SF on a budget.

Excellent value hotel

Victorian decor, B&B style hotel. Great hotel, short walk to Fisherman's Wharfe and other tourist areas. Staff very helpful and friendly. Buffet breakfast included, constantly refreshed by staff. Lots of restaurants just a short walk away on Chestnut Street. Public bus to Golden Gate Bridge, 2min walk from hotel.

What a find!

The hotel was more than adequate, although the building was of the older variety. The room itself was clean and comfortable, and the front desk staff was extremely helpful with every aspect of our stay. The only problem we had was with the hotel's wifi. Other than that, everything was a charm.

NO PARKING!

This is a decent motel, but they offer NO parking. Parking in San Fran is a NIGHTMARE (trust me, I'm from NYC...this is worse). You have to move your car every 2 hours. However, the staff here is friendly and if you are using public transit, the 30 Bus is around the corner. Only stay here if you don't have a car, are using SFMTA public transit, and are not worried about parking.
