Stately boutique hotel near Union Square
Considering its name and the British flag flying out front, it's no surprise that the King George Hotel near San Francisco's Union Square district has a decidedly European flair. Decorative touches are subtle but continue this theme: chess boards in every room, coats of arms, and more. All guests receive complimentary Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access. The on-site restaurant, Winston's Bar and Lounge, even serves imported beer.
Highlights
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access
  • Hop on any one of the city's cable cars down the street
  • Union Square shopping is only a four-block walk from the hotel

Good location for the price

The hotel is old and not very clean, it is in a good location, I rather look for a cleaner hotel next time in San Francisco and with better comfort.

Single Traveller

Really liked this hotel. As a single female traveller (meeting up with relatives living in SF) I felt really safe and secure at this hotel. Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable room. One day the lift was out of action and being on the 6th floor the walk up was quite tiring (for a fairly fit 67 year old) but this was only a minor inconvenience and did not distract from my stay.

Awesome Vacation

This is the first hotel I always check for availability when I go to SFO. It is right in the heart of downtown, surrounded by a whole lot of choices for eateries, stores, shops, and clubs. And the price is not so bad. Very clean room, and the staff ensure your needs are met.

good location, average hotel

This is what we should have expected at this price - a small room with thin walls, but clean and in a great location. If you don't want to spend too much time in the hotel room itself, this is a fine place. The bathroom was nice - airy and bright.

Review of King George Hotel

I just used the hotel as my 'base camp' for spending a few days in San Francisco. It was perfect - good clean room, friendly and helpful staff, great location. It'd be nice if there were two elevators, and the signal strength on the wireless internet was low, but these were very, very minor issues. I'll definitely stay at the hotel again if back in the area.

Not bad not great.

The staff is incredible nice and very helpful. The internet connection didn't wok well and the elevator wasn't working. Other than that everything was status quo.

Overnight stay

The hotel is well located, on the edge of the Tenderloin District, within easy walk of SoMA, Union Square and other major areas of interest. The room was clean and comfortable, if a bit small. The only issue I had with the room was that I was located on the third floor on an air shaft overlooking the building next door. That building's ventilation system created a rather annoying low hum that made sleeping difficult. ASk for a room on a higher floor and you should have a fine stay.

Good value, especially for this location

I went to SF to visit museums, to see a show, and to try some unusual restaurants. Since the King George is only a block and a half from Union Square, it is in the heart of the part of SF that appeals to me.

Great Location

I lived near by the Hotel and it was near the Tenderloin but near Union Square. I loved the place it was well worth the amount I was paying for when compared to staying in a comporable city like Chicago or NYC. Great staff although they didnt have my reservation through net.

My time at the King George

This hotel in functional but is not fancy. It has hardly any basic amenities. There is no pool. the rooms are particularly small. The hotel has no places to eat on site. The lobby is small and the 1 elevator won't be be able to accommodate a large family in one shot. Maid service must be requested everyday or it's done every other day - under the pretense of saving the environment through not over cleaning. Towels are cleaned only if they are left on the floor and the linens are changed only if you leave the their "sign" on the bed. Finally the view from my Window was a wall. The walls were paper thin so that you could hear any and all noise in the hallways. Enough Said.
