Stately boutique hotel near Union Square
Considering its name and the British flag flying out front, it's no surprise that the King George Hotel near San Francisco's Union Square district has a decidedly European flair. Decorative touches are subtle but continue this theme: chess boards in every room, coats of arms, and more. All guests receive complimentary Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access. The on-site restaurant, Winston's Bar and Lounge, even serves imported beer.

  • Complimentary Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access

Great Hotel

Had a problem with room door malfunction. Staff immediately took care of it with apologies. Upgraded me at no charge. First class service. Hotel seemed very old world charmy. Was a little older than i expected, but nice. Would stay there again. Parking a little difficult in this area.

Great Location

Friendly staff that were helpful about San Francisco. Rooms are getting a bit tired: need redecoration and the electrical wiring is ancient. Plugging in a laptop to recharge it was a nightmare and we ended up doing it in the bathroom!

"Convenient to everything"

This hotel is similar to several others in the Union Square area but, with probably the smallest of rooms. But, oh the good price. Paid a super competitive price for this hotel in the heart of the action. The hotel, as with others in this area of downtown SF, is super convenient to everything. Inexpensive cab ride to ballpark or a 30 minute walk. Cable cars and Chinatown within a couple of blocks. Restaurants, bookstore, a zillion shops all within steps. Even caught a bus 3 short blocks away and for a couple of bucks was taken to Haight Ashbury District for some exploring and an interesting self quided walking tour. Staff friendly. Clean rooms. Shower worked better than some I've had in $200 a night hotels. You're going to get the big city noise but, to me that's part of the fun. If you're a light sleeper better try somewhere else.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Catch the cable car on Powell one block up from the turnaround (end of the line). Avoids the long lines at the Powell and Market starting point.

good location

Hotel was in a good location, easy access to cable cars and all neighborhoods. The service we received was excellent as well. It is an older hotel, so the room was pretty small and looked old, but it was just fine for the price. I would recommend it.

Reasonable place to stay

It was located for easy access to transportation. We did a lot of sight seeing. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Two things we found to be a problem was the cleanliness of the bathroom and the use of the elevator by staff. We brought the cleanliness issue to the attention oif the staff and they corrected the issue immediately!

Good location

There was a conference to attend in the West Bay and I decided to stay in San Francisco. The location of the hotel was good, only 5 minutes walk to the BART station to take the train. But the room is outdated and not very clean, but good value for a discount price.

Contradictory impression

I and 10-years old dauther visited San Francisco as a tourist. All I need from hotel is a bed and parking. But the bed in the center of small room made me feel tight. Instead of other motels I stay during trip parking in this hotel is not free and inconvenient.

Like I was in Europe.

The hotel reminded me of the hotels I've stayed in in Europe. The halls seem like a dormitory or apt. The rooms are very cute and decorative, but very small compared to the average American room. The staff was friendly, except had a little problem with them recording our late check out request. The hotel grew on us and became home. It was conveniently close to the Cable Car line and to many 24 hour restaurants. I probably would not stay there again, but it was a nice memory.
