dirty and old
i stayed at this hotel for three nights. The location is very nice, it's in downtown. But I just found out that they accept dogs so it made me think that the black furry blanket on the beds were for dogs. the bathroom dor wouldn't lock. the sinks are very old. I always had to plug my nose when going in the elevator. But they had coffee and tea service in the mornings which was nice.

My review of Kensington Park Hotel
The main problem experienced while staying at this hotel was room comfort and maintenance upkeep. The TV did not work...we were given the option of transfering to another room on the same floor to watch a movie....with no other options offered we accepted...then in the middle of the movie the TV shut down , unable to be viewed again...it was very frustrated indeed to then move back into the other room again. The following day and trird night the manager agreed to move us to another floor with a king size bed and a suposedly working TV. Alas, the TV we found was broken also....however we slept good. The manager was helpful and appolegetic. Although the hotel sttaff was very helpful and did their best...it certaintly impaired our pleassure valentine get-away-vacation

Kensington Park Hotel
A little too far away from everything, and couldn't find coffee nearby/safely in the early morning. We prefer hotels with some kind of breakfast. Had a lot of homeless people ask us for money. Fire alarm went off at 2:00am and we had to leave room (false alarm). But... this is a very nice, well-maintained, older hotel, close to the trolly line. The staff (especially cleaning staff) were very nice & helpful.

Time-saving tip:
Not Applicable
If you're a tourist, stay closer to the Fisherman's Wharf because that's where you'll most likely end up quite a bit. Food is very expensive in SF, and drinks are priced separately!

on business
Good value for downtown. A little freaky at night (the area), but very close to great shopping and food. Lobby is a little outdated, but the rooms were fine and the bed was wonderful.

Good and True tips about this hotel
Well, it is a small hotel. It is not like the website pictures AT ALL.Staff is nice but that is about it. They do not go like 'all the way' to help you. The bellman is great, he will give you directions and advise you where to go. Our room was VERY dusty and the sheets where not clean. The carpet is old and dirty. The have complimentary coffee, tea and sherry which is good. The location is absolutely FABULOUS. Nice area, no trouble. Can walk around at night. I think it is the best location in all of San Francisco. if you are going on a trip to site see this is the hotel for you. If you are going with family mmm I might check somewhere else. But again, the location cannot be beat. It is in the middle of everything. Great wireless service although no business center. Need to take your own gadget...

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
around this hotel are various places you can get from coffee to a full meal. There is a starbucks near by, beside the hotel to the right is a nice little coffee place 'La Taza', around is a famous restaurant called 'Sears' famous for their pancakes pretty good, serves breakfast all day and has lunch and dinner. There is another famous diner uphill I do not recall the name but it is also good. On the left side of the hotel is a restaurant, it has a cool happy hour with appetizers good martinis and a nice ambience.
