Upgrade to a vue room .. still searching
Xav Nov 23, 2009
The hotel is very nice and the staff very friendly as you can expect in that type of great hotels. I decided to upgrade to a ... vue room ... the cost 40 dollars (20 if you do it on the internet) and I went to the 11th floor with a nice vue to the street ... If you have a problem with the front desk ask for a manager ... you won't spend time to explain things 2 or 3 times ... Not very happy with my contacts with the front desk team

really nice staff
Blockhead Nov 16, 2009
They were extremely nice. After we checked out we stopped at a grocery store, and all our luggage was stolen out of the car. ... We went back to the hotel, where the manager treated us like gold, and helped us out a lot. The rooms were great...clean, with beautiful views atop Nob Hill. The hotel was beautiful. There were two drawbacks. The parking is $49 per night, plus tax. ouch!! and the restaurant is very expensive. We would liked to have eaten there, but couldn't see spending the money.

We went on a vacation....House keeping very poor...One bar of soap for 5 days for two people...one towel for each person, ... going for an all day tour and had to shower with the same wet towel... tissues were empty...ask the front desk to make reservation at a restaurant ( House of Prime Beef) and they said we didn't need it..went there and we did waited one and one half hour, had to leave. went to Sir Franis Drake, made another reservatoin and waited another hour....Many other problems...could not get a cup of coffee in the AM...yes, a continental one for $20.00 plus $'s.. Had to go to the Fairmont to get a cup of coffee in the morning...Great looking Hotel, but that is it....Will never go back and will be going to S. F. more often because we enjoyed it except for the Hotel...It is nice but a lot of problems. No coffee shop, no soap in the bathroom, two towels to showers. We will be going to Union Sq. in the future which will be next year and there after. Very, Vaery disappointment. Rating #01

Attended a concert at Masonic Nob Hill and only had a a block walk to our Hotel. Love that Nob Hill location as everything ... was on top of the hill. Had drinks at sunset at the Top of the Mark on the 19th floor of the hotel and then a short walk to the Tonga Room across the street for appetizers and drinks before the show. Everything was perfect!

Disappointed...
Native SF Traveler Nov 7, 2009
A wonderful old hotel at the top of Nob Hill with great views but I was disappointed in the size of the "deluxe" room and ... with an older hotel like this comes many quirks. The rooms are not very sound proof and you can hear EVERYTHING the other tenants are doing. The pipes in the wall constantly shake and make noises when you are in the shower (I know this did not only happen to me because I could hear the same noise throughout the morning and night when others were also in the shower). It has a rather small tv compared to other hotels that offer a larger room and tv for aproximately the same price. Great location though!

Value Priced in Expensive City
[*] Sep 30, 2009
Overall, it was okay. The hotel seems like a classy hotel, but the walls seemed pretty thin. We heard hall way noises all ... night long. The amenities were good and the room was spacious. Lastly, I woke up to an allergic reaction to the bedding. I'm pretty sensitive to dust/dirt so I don't know if I would give it a clean thumbs up.

Costs add up
Acugirl Aug 21, 2009
The hotel is fine. I was happy with the room. But why does the hotel have to charge for wi-fi? It's annoying when nice hotels ... start nickel and dime-ing guests for everything. Better to charge one price and include the extras. My husband spent some time in the Fairmont Hotel (across the street) and was able to use their wi-fi in the lobby for free and enjoy complimentary coffee and juice. I was not informed that the hotel was going to put $100.00 on my debit card when I gave it to the front desk for incidentals. I understand that they've probably been burned by people who don't pay, but at least let me know what you're doing so that I'm not surprised when I do some online banking and find that sum listed on my account. Parking fee ($47) is outrageous. We used another garage on the hill.

Familiarize yourself with the "Streets Of San Francisco", or you may get taken for a much longer ride by a cabbie. Both cabs we took tried to make the trip a LOT longer than necessary, but as we had been to San Francisco before, we knew the drill, and actually gave them directions to let them know we weren't "rookies". As we always tip well anyway, the longer ride would have been not necessary, but....they didn't know that.

Definately get the transportation pass which can be found at a booth next the Gap and Forever 21 stores on the intersection of Powel and Market Street. They have passes for multiple days and will save you in the long run. It covers all your cable car rides, subway, and tram lines.

--GT, Greenville, South Carolina Jul 25, 2009
Most attractions are within either a short drive or a longer walk. The MH Hotel is located on top of Nob Hill, on California Ave between Powell and Mason, both of which incredible steep inclines downward. Get your bearings, check Google maps, and have a great time!

Do make reservations at Hubert Keller's "Fluer de Lys". Amazing restaurant with unbelievable food. Skip "Michael Mina's".. althought the staff was sensational, many of the dishes missed their mark are were off, twice the price of Fluer de Lys and only 1/2 as good.
--cerealberry, chicago,il Jul 12, 2009
Go to Ghiradelli Square and treat yourself to a delicious waffle cone ice cream. Do NOT dine at the Franciscan restaurant on the dock. Very pleasant water view; however, the meal was not worth the price. The vegetables were overcooked and the meat I ordered did not taste fresh.
--The Gardener, Shelton, WA Jul 12, 2009
Leave your car at home. Plan to use cable car to get up and down hill to the hotel. If you need a car during your stay there is a zip car location half a block away.
--Old Jim, Chicago Jul 7, 2009
Take the GoCar GPS tour. Dress warm!! They say the tour takes 2.5 hours, but it really takes 3.4-4 hours. If you stop, don't stay too long. That was the most fun I have had in a long time. Eat at Allioto's at Fisherman's Wharf for a moderate priced dinner with great view. Eat at Garry Danko's for a very expenisve, very delicious meal. Everyone should treat themselves to an amazing dining experience at least once in their lifetime.
