Beautiful views of the city at historical, iconic Nob Hill hotel

The Intercontinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco opened in 1926 at the crest of Nob Hill and has been wowing visitors ever since. Visitors flock from all over the city to experience The Top of the Mark, a restaurant and lounge on the 19th floor of the hotel, which showcases breathtaking views of the entire city and bay. The lobby, with its ornate columns and marble accents, is a fitting welcome. Upstairs, rooms are intimate and modern in style and conveniences.

Highlights
  • Dine at Top of the Mark restaurant for views of the city
  • Located at the crest of Nob Hill
  • Relax in restored lobby with touches from yesteryear
Rooms

Accommodations -- 348 rooms and 32 suites -- have crown moldings and other subtle touches that capture the authentic turn-of-the-century feel, yet the rooms boast modern conveniences. Each room comes standard with a flat-screen television, granite-countertop bathrooms, spacious work desks and plush bedding. Members of the property's Lobby Club receive complimentary room upgrades, late check-out and daily food and beverage presentations. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access are available in all rooms (fees apply).

Features

The hotel has received numerous awards, including the AAA Four-Diamond Award. It was named for Mark Hopkins, a founder of the Central Pacific Railroad, on whose land the hotel was built.

The property offers complimentary 24-hour access to cardio and free-weight machines in its on-site fitness center, as well as complimentary town car service into the Financial District on weekday mornings.

The real show-stopper at the Mark Hopkins is the Top of the Mark, a restaurant and lounge on the 19th floor. The hotel opened in 1926 and this eatery opened 13 years later, in 1939. Since then it has been a favorite spot for many of San Francisco's rich and famous. The menu is eclectic; a drink list boasts 100 different martinis.

Valet and self parking are available (fees apply).

First Class hotel

Staff were extremely friendly, welcoming, courteous and accommodating. I needed a car charger for my mobile phone which the car hire company had forgotten to give me. Housekeeping and Conscierge went out of their way to get me one and Conscierge even arrange for one of the drivers to take me to a phone shop and back to ensure that I got the correct one for my mobile. Dinner for room service was very appetising and breakfast the following morning was plenty and refreshing and healthy :o) I am very pleased that I chose this hotel for my overnight stay to travel onwards another 4 hours. Thank you.

Historic Hotel

Beautiful old world Lobby. It is Christmas Season and the hotel was decorated nicely with a big ginger bread house and Christmas tree.. The hot cider and cookies in the afternoon, hit the spot! Free coffee in the lobby in the morning. The room was comfortable and in good condition. The Top of the Mark offers a spectacular view of the city and great live music. ( free cover charge for guests) Beware there is a bit of an steep uphill walk from Union Square. The only fault was the low water pressure in the shower and lavatory.

Nice Hotel, small bathroom

I normally stay at the Marriott Renaissance (next door) or The Nikko (down the street), but both were priced over $290 + tax. This hotel, however, was priced at $136 (including tax). As I've stayed in Intercontinental hotels in Dubai, Frankfurt, and Madrid, I had high expectations for this hotel. Aside from a few hairs that weren't mine (hanging from a lampshade and sitting on the showermat), and aside from an extraordinarily small bathroom (it was difficult to close the bathroom door and to exit the shower), the room was great. The bed was comfortable, the view was spectacular, and there was plenty of space. And for the price, this hotel is a great choice.

Disappointed...

A wonderful old hotel at the top of Nob Hill with great views but I was disappointed in the size of the "deluxe" room and with an older hotel like this comes many quirks. The rooms are not very sound proof and you can hear EVERYTHING the other tenants are doing. The pipes in the wall constantly shake and make noises when you are in the shower (I know this did not only happen to me because I could hear the same noise throughout the morning and night when others were also in the shower). It has a rather small tv compared to other hotels that offer a larger room and tv for aproximately the same price. Great location though!

Fantastic!

When I checked in I was upgraded to a "club" room. It was on the 14th floor and had wonderful views of the city. The room was very nice - comfortable bed, large flat panel TV, nice desk and chair, wonderful bathroom, etc... The staff was very helpful with great restaurant suggestions and information on the cable cars. They held my bags after checkout until later in the day when I was ready to head to the airport. It is a first class hotel! I would definitely recommend it! Only negatives were that there was a wedding reception in their Top of the Mark Lounge (which is their only bar) so I had to change plans with friends and the valet / parking fee seemed very high.
