Beautiful views of the city at historical, iconic Nob Hill hotel
The Intercontinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco opened in 1926 at the crest of Nob Hill and has been wowing visitors ever since. Visitors flock from all over the city to experience The Top of the Mark, a restaurant and lounge on the 19th floor of the hotel, which showcases breathtaking views of the entire city and bay. The lobby, with its ornate columns and marble accents, is a fitting welcome. Upstairs, rooms are intimate and modern in style and conveniences.
Highlights
- Dine at Top of the Mark restaurant for views of the city
- Located at the crest of Nob Hill
- Relax in restored lobby with touches from yesteryear
Rooms
Accommodations -- 348 rooms and 32 suites -- have crown moldings and other subtle touches that capture the authentic turn-of-the-century feel, yet the rooms boast modern conveniences. Each room comes standard with a flat-screen television, granite-countertop bathrooms, spacious work desks and plush bedding. Members of the property's Lobby Club receive complimentary room upgrades, late check-out and daily food and beverage presentations. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access are available in all rooms (fees apply).
Features
The hotel has received numerous awards, including the AAA Four-Diamond Award. It was named for Mark Hopkins, a founder of the Central Pacific Railroad, on whose land the hotel was built.
The property offers complimentary 24-hour access to cardio and free-weight machines in its on-site fitness center, as well as complimentary town car service into the Financial District on weekday mornings.
The real show-stopper at the Mark Hopkins is the Top of the Mark, a restaurant and lounge on the 19th floor. The hotel opened in 1926 and this eatery opened 13 years later, in 1939. Since then it has been a favorite spot for many of San Francisco's rich and famous. The menu is eclectic; a drink list boasts 100 different martinis.
Valet and self parking are available (fees apply).

Very good value for SF. The hotel is in an excellent location. You can catch the cable car half a block down from the hotel and then easily see all of the sites of SF. Just get a metro pass and use the cable, trolley and bus to take you all over the city.

I was surprised to find that the Top of the Mark was only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. I was staying on weekdays, so we had only one choice of dining in the hotel.

Classic & Gracious
The Mark Hopkins is one of the Classic/Classy Ladies of San Francisco. The staff remembered me from the minute I checked in until the moment I left. The room was on the Club Level with an awesome view of SF Bay Bridge. It had a large closet, many hangers, robes, slippers, shoe shiners, valet/press, coffee maker, honor bar ... unbelievably wonderful linens and wireless/wired high speed access. Beds were so comfortable, one did not want to arise in the morning. Bathroom is on the smallish side, but has wonderful amenities and is set up in such a way that you'd swear it was big and lush instead of small and lush. The Club Continental was an added bonus to we who were lucky enough to be on the Club Level ~ Buffet breakfast, snacks, high tea, snacks, evening wine and cheese, snacks and such a friendly staff, eager to assist ~ great decorum but no stuffiness. The concierge was very helpful with special late afternoon request I made ~ an orchid wrist corsage needed within two hours! Room service is expensive, as is breakfast at the Top of the Mark. But, hey! How often does one have a chance to stay at such a gracious and world-famous hotel? The only downside? Once there I didn't even want to go sightseeing!

My review of InterContinental MARK HOPKINS SAN FRANCISCO
How can you beat a location on Nob Hill! The Mark Hopkins has a great location for both my business and social needs. Great well train staff, each check-in and fine amenities. As a business traveler, all my needs were met expeditiously. Fine in room dining, but not inexpensive. Rooms can tend to be somewhat small, especially considering the strong room rate. That being said, my most recent room had great views.

Excellent service and location!
The Mark Hopkins San Francisco is in an excellent location, with superb views. I was there for a fundraising event at the hotel and it was coordinated without a hitch. There were only two issues: The elevators to the tower restaurant were out and the internet seemed exceptionally expensive compared to my other hotel experiences.

Luxury of old San Francisco
The Mark Hopkins was a beautiful hotel. The rooms were very elegant. The bathroom alone was worth the stay. Beutiful marble floors and walls. The concierge helped us with any questions we had regarding dining and even finding a pharmacy at midnight.

San Francisco Christmas
We like this hotel and its location very much. It is next to a park, several churchs, some good restaurants and also close to Chinatown and Union Square. We liked the Top of the Mark better when it was more of a cocktail lounge than a restaurant. The hotel was beautifully decorated for the holiday and the staff very helpful. All guests were given a very beautiful and delicious dessert plate on Christmas Eve. My only complaint was that our first flight was cancelled, our flight the next day was also delayed so that our trip was shorter than planned.
