OK

Way too much carpet freshen to cover up the musty old smell. Gave me a pounding headache. Room fairly dirty. Soda spilt all over bed which made sticky. Mud all over chair bases. Room in dire need of a good spring cleaning. Good location. Staff very nice and helpful. Few amenities but would trade the lack of for the price. Hotel has potential but needs to be updated.

Clean rooms, good location

We stayed in Petite Queen for 4 nights over the New Year's holidays. Front desk staff were helpful and polite, the room was clean and cozy, and the location was convenient - lots of dining options, mini-markets and coffee shops in the area. I was a little worried about the neighborhood -some reviews suggested it's somewhat sketchy, but it's simply not true. You might have a homeless guy ask you for some change and a cigarette, but that's it. We never felt threatened or uncomfortable on the street even after dark. It is within walking distance of Chinatown (20mins), Japantown (20 mins), Moma (20 mins), Downtown (20 mins) and Fisherman's Warf (45 mins). If you want to explore the city on foot, get a feel for San Francisco Atmosphere and have a room with a unique romantic feel - Vertigo is for you. Here are some things to be prepared for: Valet Parking will cost you $35 a day with unlimited in/out privileges. You have to call 30-40 minutes in advance to have your car ready. Street parking is tough, but doable after a day or two of figuring it out. Just read ALL the street signs and learn meter operation hours. There are also 2 street public garages in the area. Using those can save you about $15 a day. Hotel is located in a historic building, so with charm come little inconveniences-thin doors (be very quiet in the hallways), older tubs and elevator. Overall we really enjoyed our stay:it felt more like an apartment in the city than a hotel, and it is a great way to travel.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

There's a sushi place that you MUST visit if you are staying near Nob hill area. Freshest fish I've ever had in my life! We went for sushi every single night to different restaurants and this one made an impression. It's worth a walk! It's called Okoze and it's on 1207 Union St.

Amazing Value with uncompromised quality

Hotel is 100% renovated. Room was spotless & staff was great. Some older reviews talked about noise from other rooms, but the hotel was full while we were there and we never heard anyone. Door was very heavy and soundproof. Yes it is only a 3 star, small hotel but with room coffee, lobby coffee, fridge, great lighting in room and free internet it is quite a bargain.

no room at the Inn

First my flight was change and I call the hotel to tell them that I was going to be late but I would be there, When I got there I didn"t have a room. They had over booked. They sent me to another hotel and everyone that I was with was at this hotel. I got to the other room at 2 am. When back the next day and they had me a room at 3 pm that day. This was the first time that I ever did something like this and I hated the EXPERIENCE all the way. Thanks

Good Value and Location

Hotel is older but remodeled. Not too far from Union Square district and only takes a few to walk the 4 blocks. Good cheap places to eat breakfeast at across the street. If you aren't looking for luxury then this is the place because it's a good place to stay if visiting and you save a ton of money. Being there as a tourist you really don't spend too much time in your room so save your money and have fun elsewhere. We had a room in the back away from the street and it was quiet at night. No problems!!

Great room but no A/C

The room was very nice and the staff helpful but there is no air conditioning. Also rooms on the street can be very loud (especially with the window open).

Loved it!

I had a king room on the 7th floor. I was very impressed with this hotel and it's amenities. It has a modern, stylized, boutique feel, but was also super comfortable and felt luxurious. The bedding in particular was so comfy, I almost didn't want to get out of bed. The room was bright and had lots of light. The public areas felt very clean, and the room itself and bathroom were also clean and spacious. The decor was modern but not so ultra modern that it was not functional or gimmicky. My room had a safe and a mini-fridge that was neatly hidden in the desk cabinet -- great for leftovers! For an "older" building, it did not feel or smell old or musty either. The bathroom was clean and large, and the full-sized tub was deep. I never take baths anywhere -- not even at home, but for some reason this one was so inviting, I decided to take one and almost fell asleep in it -- very relaxing and soothing after doing so much walking in SF. The staff was always courteous and accommodating. While the location is not terrible or great, and though you are within walking distance to Union Square, there are no public buses or cable cars that conveniently operate on this street, but on a street or two over there were. So it was either walk or cab for me. If you walk on Hyde from Market, that can be rather dodgy and even the hotel staff wouldn't recommend that route, especially if you're female. But being male and somewhat urban, I didn't have an issue with this. If none of this is a concern to travelers, I'd have given it an extra star. I really liked this place and would definitely stay there again without hesitation, especially at the Orbitz rate I paid!

Cozy, Comfortable, and Affordable

Vertigo is located only about 6 blocks or so from Union Square and Westfield Mall. I took a city sight seeing tour from Union Square which was a lot of fun and made it very easy to see all of the local tourist attractions. The staff at Vertigo was very friendly and helpful the whole time I was there. I do not have one bad thing to say about the hotel. I loved my room, the accomadations and the people. Truly a great place to stay.
