Great gettaway from the hubbub

Helpful, friendly staff, relaxing location, nice rooms. I had a great stay and plan to return. This is a good place to stay if you want a quieter neighborhood, with easy access to everything using the bus.

it's hot in here

While the room we received was reasonably quiet, the first night was spent listening to the toilet run (they did fix it) and tossing and turning in the stuffy room. At first we thought we were just confused by the fancy thermostat but finally after two nights of restlessness, a guy came to "fix" it. It worked for a few hours but we came back late and it was broken again so a third night with tossing and turning. They really should have given us a new room. I mean it was a Monday in April. I think they maybe had two guests. I know in SF AC is not usually mandatory but this was unreasonably warm and the lack of AC truly made this stay unbearable, and with a staff that half the time doesn't even answer the phone - when you are IN the hotel calling from your room - and the reasonably high cost, we won't be back.

fun, clean and cozy

We stayed in San Fran for one night before we headed out of the area and this hotel was a blast. The room was decorated with vibrant colors and modern furniture. I loved the lather products in the bathroom and everything was very clean. Close proximity to great food and shops.

Kind of awful

I guess I had a special room--down the hall from the restaurant and across the hall from the employee locker room. The carpeting was scary dirty and stained and the walls are thin. There were some good points--the bed was comfortable with clean bedding and the bathroom seemed clean. Would not recommend this to a friend.

Great location!

My daughters just love the anime theme of the room. Since it's located in Japantown, we have so many Japanese and Korean restaurants to choose from! :) and it's just a block away from the Japanese mall. Our family finally found a hotel we can stay at when we visit our daughter who's in college in SF.

This is a great hotel..!!

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Tomo. The decor was funky and the staff could not have been nicer. The rooms were very clean and really quiet, I never heard any of the other guests. There is a cool little japanese style restaurant on the first floor which is great for breakfast. I also loved the area, very mellow and right across the street from Japan town and just a few blocks away from a major street that had many different restaurant options. There is only one thing that I thought was a little off. They charge $30 per night to park in their parking garage. This was not really disclosed ahead of time or if it was I missed it. It's wasn't a deal killer by any means, but it was a bit of a surprise. I do think it should be advertised as a $100 a night hotel instead of $70 because with this extra parking fee that's what it is.

About 30 dollars cheaper than comparable hotels in the area. Great centralized location. Parking lot was a bit small so be prepared to look for street parking if lot is full.

MId Week Stay

I've never stayed in Japan Town before and we found it lovely and somewhat central to everything. Easy to catch a bus or hail a taxi. My 14 year old daughter and I stayed midweek on a school holiday and found it a great bargain. The staff was helpful and the other clientele were nice not creepy or scary. I heard the hotel was an old Motel 8 remodeled into this niche hotel. You'll see a little fray around the edges and we found it nothing to worry about. Try Roam Artisian Burgers for early dinner, Gussie's Chicken and Waffles lunch or dinner, Sweet Mable for breakfast (TRY THE MILLIONAIRE'S BACON), Bun Mae for Vietnamese, Thai Stick on Fillmore for a start. All within walking distance. There were many coffee and tea and sweets ships close by. There is a restaurant in the hotel and we didn't get to try it. Get a bus schedule and bring an umbrella although the front desk has some to borrow. We'll come back with the rest of the family,
