Sophistication with an Asian flair and an indoor pool near Union Square

Hotel Nikko feels more like Hong Kong than San Francisco. The lobby is spacious, featuring white marble and rooms are minimalist in design. The on-site restaurant, Anzu, serves up Asian food with a Japanese focus. Distances at the on-site pool are measured in meters. Just steps from Union Square and the Moscone Convention Center, the Nikko is perfectly located for business travelers in town for conventions. At the same time, it is comfortable for families accustomed to sophisticated luxury.

Highlights
  • Live jazz at Feinstein's at the Nikko nightclub
  • A short walk from the shops and restaurants of Union Square
  • Spacious fifth-floor indoor pool
  • Sushi and other Asian-inspired fare available at on-site restaurant Anzu
Rooms

With 510 rooms and 22 suites, Hotel Nikko is one of the largest hotels in the Union Square area. All rooms boast views of the city skyline and San Francisco Bay. The concierge floor and suite bathrooms feature miniature televisions set inside the main vanity mirror. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access are available in all rooms (fees apply).

Features

Luxuriate for an afternoon under the atrium of Hotel Nikko's fifth-floor solarium, which houses a pool, 24-hour fitness center and spa (fees apply). The Nicolas Salon, located in the lobby, provides expert hair styling for both men and women by appointment (fees apply).

Dining

Anzu, Hotel Nikko's second-floor restaurant, specializes in what it calls "EuroJapanese" cuisine -- a mixture of Japanese dishes and French and Spanish fare. The eatery's bar is known for its sake martinis. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Entertainment

Feinstein's at the Nikko, a jazz lounge on the hotel's lobby level, offers a variety of headliner entertainment in an intimate and sophisticated setting. World-class entertainers such as Ashford & Simpson, Keely Smith and The Supremes' Mary Wilson perform most nights. The lounge offers a chic full bar, specialty cocktails and extensive wine list. Comfortable Room and Outstanding Service

The staff was very friendly and helpful. We requested a refrigerator and extra chair and received them immediately. The room (King Deluxe) was comfortable. The bedding was great. The bathroom was very large. I would have preferred a larger room and smaller bathroom. The location was excellent. We were about 2 blocks from Union Square, close to the cable cares and lots of shopping.

Great for a girls trip!

Our stay at Hotel Nikko was wonderful! All of the hotel staff were very nice and extremely helpful, specifically a Jamie who worked in the valet area. We had a wonderful view of the city and we were greeted with a glass of wine upon arriving. The hotel is situated in a great location right by Union Square, with very easy access to the Bart, to get to and from the airport. I would definitely stay at the Hotel Nikko again!

Great Two Days at Hotel Nikko

I had business in the Bay Area on Friday and I brought my wife with me for a quick weekend in San Franciso. I was extremely pleased with our stay at Hotel Nikko. The Staff were great, the room was great and the location of the hotel in proximity to the Union Square Shopping District and public transportation hubs made getting around very easy (never took the rental car out of parking). We will definately consider Hotel Nikko on any future trips to the Bay Area.

Weekend getaway

This was my second time staying at the hotel. The rooms are small, but a bit larger than some of the other nearby older hotels. The furnishings are modern and clean. The location is very central to several restaurants, shopping, bars, and Powell Bart station. Overall very pleasant stay.

Will stay again

The location is perfect. Bed was perfectly comfy. We could really rest at night after long walking during the day =) Overall, it's a great experience except two things 1) After nikko remodeled their room, it looks nice but functionally old version is better. - no vent system in the shower. So, after taking a shower, bathroom is really full of humidity. and there's no door for shower booth. Why don't you make a complete door instead of half of it ? 2) The restroom on the lobby is for hotel guest only. It's good before you check out.But after check out, you might feel bad about it. I left my stuff at hotel for a couple of hrs after check out , and when I came back to pick up my things I wanted to use a restroom. I asked for a restroom key and the front desk guy was kind of giving me an attitude. Come on, I was your guest for 4 days and Should I go to a public restroom after I pick up my luggage because I already checked out? Doesn't make any sense to me !! Anyways, I was able to use the restroom but I felt a bit embarrassed because of his reaction. But again, It was a good choice to stay at this hotel. It's my second time staying at Nikko. and I think I will stay there again when I go to SF.

Quiet elegant oasis in SF

We have stayed at the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco many times and each time it feels new. Located in the bustle of downtown near Powell Street this hotel envelopes you in its soft quiet elegance the minute you enter the lobby. The room was impeccable, with great linens and the rooms are situated as to muffle any hallway or room-to-room noise. Customer Service is the driving force to a wonderful stay. An added bonus is the Starbucks right next door!

One of the best stays ever

As I am an avid traveler for both pleasure and business, I frequent hotels around the US weekly. Hotel Nikko was my first time stay this past weekend and the level of courteous staff to the beautiful and clean rooms and prompt room service, they easily surpassed my expectation. Definitely try the corner junior suite. It was fantastic and well below average value for such an opulent accommodation. Highly recommend Hotel Nikko in SF. I will never stay anywhere else while I is it SF.

Great Choice

This well-situated hotel was close to much of what one wants to do as a tourist in San Francisco. The check-in/out process was swift, effortless and virtually without any questions. The hotel staff was uniformly polite, nice and efficient. A fine area for finding a taxi or having people meet you is provided. Excellent breakfast buffet with both extensive western and Asian choices. Marvelous views from the 25th floor. Excellent workout facility and spa. Overall, an excellent choice.

Great trip!

I had a great time in San Fran! The location was amazing, staff was super helpful, the room was in great condition. It was a little small but for a long weekend, it served it's purpose. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because it was a little pricey. Everything cost extra, water was $6, wifi cost extra, gym costs extra, etc. But other than that, I loved it!

Nice hotel and great location.

Hotel Nikko is really nice, first off at check in we got upgraded to a junior suite free of charge. The room was nice and comfortable. My only recommendation would be to park at the parking garage across the street it's cheaper than parking at the hotel.

The only down side is there is no complementary shuttle! That would have been great, but if you call the front desk they can arrange one for you to get to the airport! It's only $16 a person, a taxi is more than $60!

Nickels & Dimes - Pet Fee Nightmare

Thankfully only stayed at this expensive hotel for one night. The hotel charges for most amenities - wifi and use of the swimming pool being the most enraging. My biggest complaint was the 50 USD pet fee, which came as a huge shock. I understand that many hotels do charge a pet fee, but I thought this was excessive, especially considering my dog is a quiet, housebroken 10 lb chihuahua. Also, the guy who helped me at the front desk was super snooty. I wouldn't stay here again and wouldn't recommend it to others, especially not if you're traveling with pets.

We enjoyed our stay

While the property is rather ordinary and somewhat dated, our room was clean and very well located and the pool/spa were fantastic. I'd recommend this property at less than $200/night.

Getaway..

Overall the experience was very good. Because I had to spend a nite sooner than anticipated they could not coordinate the two reservations...a minor hassle. Having spent a few nites here a few years ago, the hotel seemed to lack the Asian flare and ambiance that I remember. Overall no complaints and recommended.

Always Great To Stay At The Nikko

I have stayed at The Nikko for a long time. Rooms can be a little on the high side, depending on what is going on in the city, but if you can find it for under $200 it is a great business trip hotel.

Ok I guess

A lot of amenities were overpriced. The wifi cost $15 per day on EACH device. You would expect a hotel that cost that much to have free or reasonable wifi. Also, all of the fitness center pool cost additional charges. It started to just seem ridiculous. Didn't really see the point in staying there. They did have a nice bathroom and comfortable bed. Also, the walls were paper thin. We stayed on the 12th floor and I could still here bottles being thrown away from the street!! Just wasn't worth the money. I have no problem paying it, but wouldn't recommend to others, nor would I stay again.

Typical Japanese

The Nikko is Japanese and it tells. Hotel looks like any Nikko hotel elsewhere, especially the tiles :-) A little more local style may be possible to make you feel more local to the fantastic city of San Francisco. However, the pool, sauna and gym are all very nice and a great workout. Room a little small - as mentioned, typical Japanese. But nicely equipped and in good condition.

Hotel Nikko

My mother and I were so pleasantly amazed at the level of customer service at The Hotel Nikko! I will definitely stay there again if I visit San Francisco - whether or not it is part of a conference. Well worth the money in every way. The staff covered all aspects of service - from holding the doors open and greeting you with a big smile and a "Welcome Back!" to absolutely flawless room service. I love being able to text the concierge - and receive a response within minutes! Phenomenal all around!

3 Star at Best

Great Staff. Awesome Location! Visited San Fran with my girlfriend. It was her first time here so, I thought I would get a 'fancier' hotel to make her experience more enjoyable. We had a great time in the city and the staff were very friendly. The room we got however was not to par.. Only complaint about the staff was that it took over 30 minutes to get our luggage #I think they forgot until I called them#. We were waiting to go out to explore the city. The room was very small/tiny and we felt very claustrophobic. Furniture was laid out like it was a storage room. Carpet was very grimy looking and feeling. It was pretty gross to say the least. I kept my socks and shoes on the rest of the time. On the other hand.. bed was comfy, bathroom was decent. We did not stay in the room a lot, however when we were there it was a bit noisy. Sounded like someone was moving furniture around. I have stayed at the Hilton across the street which is also a 4 Star Hotel and it was much better experience. I have stayed in other cities, in 3 star hotels that were much better. That's why I would say this is a 3 Star at best.

Perfect location & Great service!

I stayed 11 nights through Christmas and New Year. Everything was great. The staff was really nice from check-in to check-out. I didn't have any trouble during the travel. The location is literally a minute walk from Union Square. The room was clean and neat, smelled good. One thing that could be improved is that if they extend breakfast roomservice time. 8:30am is kinda early for me to have breakfast when I slept late the last night :)

Fantastic location but very expensive stuffs

Very good location, but they gonna charge you for every thing, internet is very expensive, parking lot is $45 per day, breakfast is $30 per person and if you order something online they charge you to revive the package too. But I think San Francisco is a expensive city so most of the hotels is gonna be the same.

Hotel Nikko

Great location. Walking distance to many sites and transportation access. Only complaint is that in the standard room, they offer a "petite queen." It is so small, it's actually a full size. Very small. Was very disappointed that such a prestigious and highly rated hotel had such a small and uncomfortable bed. Have been wanting to stay here for many years that we've been visiting San Francisco. Was truly disappointed with the bed. The hotel tries to offer an upgrade that comes with a King size bed. Seemed like they wanted to "nickel & dime" us with that offer. They should just get rid of those beds.

could be better

I used the hotel for a conference which was being held there. I upgraded to a 2-bedroom when my friend decided to attend the conference with me. The first night (Friday) was fine; however, housekeeping came when my friend was taking a nap at about 2:30 PM, so she told them to come back later. She left the room at 3:00 PM, but housekeeping never did come back and the room never got cleaned.

Sophisticated

The Nikko is a lovely hotel. The flowers are memorable in that their placement and colors were well-selected. The bed was too soft and the pillows too hard, in my opinion. The concierge, Ernesto, is all one could hope for ! I went to see the David Hockney Exhibit. I shopped a bit at Gumps, I visited and dined with a friend in Piedmont, and I went to Tartine Bakery, which was so crowded, and I understand why! I would consider The Nikko again. The other hotels I have stayed are The Stanford Court and The St. Francis hotels. I'm sorry I didn't stay another 3 days to, at least, enjoy the Fienstein Bar and more museums and shopping. It's a lovely city. The Tenderloin area serves as a reminder that all Americans need to address poverty.

nice hotel, will stay here again

stayed here for only one night. but had a very good experience here. very comfy bed... had a good sleep like a baby. staffs were friendly, good location. the only negative point was i could hear people walking on the hallway and door sound. Just a little sound- proof issues. But since I was really tired, it didn't bother me that much. So I DEFINITELY will stay here again when I go to San Francisco.

An oasis in the "Walking Dead" episode that is downtown SF

I loved the Nikko. Not because it has soul—it doesn't, really—but because it was totally professional, perfectly clean and quiet, and has a great (if kinda 80s) rooftop heated pool. The staff were all unfailingly polite. Everything worked. My king deluxe room was plenty nice for me, alone, on business (nice bedding!). No complaints. Just don't come here expecting the cool of a nice boutique. Also, I paid about 210/night, so it felt like a great deal in downtown SF.

Lovely

Great location, right in the heart of Union Square. Only thing that I didn't like is that I had to pay $20 to use the gym/pool. For the cost of the room, the gym and pool should be complimentary. Lovely stay

Single person traveling

The hotel and staff were excellant. The only drawback I could see is the location is very close to a district that single woman doesn't want to be walking in alone esp. at night. But if you know you're way around the city and are just smart about watching out for yourself, this is a good value and great area of town for food, music and the amentities within the Hotel Nikko!

A beautiful hotel in perfect location to walk in San Francisco. Clean, friendly staff. We were on 14th floor with great city view. Unfortunately we arrived from hawaii in the early morning and could not get an early check in but they did hold our luggage while we spent a day in the city.

last minute luxury

Everyone was extremely friendly. My husband was impressed that even the maids stopped to say hello. I loved the sample of wine at check in. I have since bought the bottle twice. The room was immaculate and comfortable. My favorite resturant HANA ZEN is right next door. We have stayed at the Parc 55 and Handlery on this street as well as the Inn at Union Square and Palace Hotel. This was the best deal at $165 a night. When I went to do this adventure again with my mom the room was $400. I guess there was something going on in SF.

This is actually a very good brand in Asia. But in SF, the hotel does look not that good. The renovation is under process. So, I hear a lot of noise early in the morning. Hope they can make it better in the future.

A city hotel that exceeded our expectations!

My best friend and I had an awesome stay at this hotel. We flew into the city very early and just thought we'd ask if we could get an early check-in and were pleasantly surprised that, not only was our room ready, they upgraded us from a deluxe king to a deluxe 2 double bed room. Such a relief to settle in and head out for breakfast. The location was perfect too, walking distance from all the shops and restaurants. Loved that there was a starbucks!! The best thing was we got an incredible rate through this site. I compared it to every deal site and really, really lucked out. I am beyond happy we didn't have to settle for a small boutique hotel with less amenities and smaller room sizes. :-)

Read this fine print again and again!!

This is a nice hotel but we picked in a hurry while driving around and didn't take time to read the details. You will pay extra for everything. Parking is extremely pricey. To print off one voucher cost me $6.95. To use the pool or exercise room it will cost an extra $20. I felt a little overwhelmed. The room we had was the smallest I have ever had. It consisted of 1 queen size bed with about 4 feet on boths sides. That was it!! The bathroom was ordinary. I just strongly urge you to READ and READ the details. Of course it is downtown San Francisco. I should have known better

Hotel Nikko Review

It was not at a higher level that I requested also i booked it through this site and the actual hotel website it self had a better deal with free wifi or another package with parking included and the hotel staff didn't let me change it to their promotion online because I booked it through this site and they wouldn't give me access to the pool which I thought was apart of the deal and they wanted to charge extra also the room had a used q-tip in the bathroom and the sheet had a blue stain on it of some sort and I have a picture of it too. Although the staff was nice they didn't really accomodate my preferences and wouldn't let me get the better package or deal. Also the concierge wasn't helpful really short answers

Hotel Nikko March 2013

Very nice hotel in downtown San Francisco by Union Square. I stayed on the 8th floor. High pressure flushing toilets got annoying ... especially when flushed by other residents at 5am. Seemingly every morning between 6-7am, there was loud banging outside in the street. Wished the rooms would've had microwaves, but they don't. I was really in the room for sleeping for the most part and it wasn't the quietest. If you want a good location, you have to sacrifice some of the finer things. It was still a nice stay.

These Tourists Will Definitely Stay Again!

Very clean hotel in Union Square. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. The hotel altogether was wonderful. There is a Starbucks right downstairs, so if the weather is bad, you don't even have to go outside for coffee! Nikko is very close to the BART-powell station, so if you're arriving at SFO, you can take the BART to Powell and walk a block. (This is where my phone's map came in handy) The hotel is also a couple of blocks from two cable car routes, which will take you to Fisherman's Wharf and the other to the Hyde Street Pier. Both pass through Lombard St. We will definitely stay again!

Micro-Queen is tiny, basic

This hotel many wonderful elements, especially the glorious pool. But the "micro-queen" room we got for a discounted rate here is so small it was challenging to maneuver. Worse though is that the affordable rate I secured here didnt include the outrageous $50 parking fee per night, or the $50 fee per night to have our small dig with us . The pool is now a $20 fee as well, and internet is $16. So we ended up paying an unexpected additional $200!

Hotel Nikko San Francisco

The issue really comes down to how a hotel chooses to make additional money. They can either charge more for the rooms or charge for amenities. Most of us think hotels should find a way to make rooms and amenities affordable. But at Hotel Nikko SF, they charge for internet and use of the fitness center. I think hotels that do that are lame. A $20 one time fee for fitness center use and $20 per day use of wifi is ridiculous. Otherwise, a great stay in a comfortable and clean that had a pleasant staff.

Great hotel next to Powell Station!

I was amazed at the nicines of the hotel and it's close proximity to the Powell Street and Market Street. There was an Americal Conservatory Theater, a cable car, and aCVS-liek store a block away. I also got a free regrigerator, although after three reminders.

unforseen charges

Hotel was beautiful and yes, in the heart of SF. I often stay at lovely hotels. It was a first that while checking in... they offered me a complimentary glass of wine. The stem glasses were displayed beautifully behind the counter. Nice touch!! *This helped with the sting of multiple unexpected charges of: $50- for daily parking, $20- daily for the use of the pool, and $16- for daily use of the internet. Movies averaged $20- too. Hmmm.... Relaxing was definately harder because I'd suddenly blown my budget! Not cool- who charges to use the pool?

Central SF - cool but not intimidating

I stayed for one night as part of a business trip and it suited my purposes well, especially as it was just a shory walk from the BART and Muni Metro services. I'm not sure that its would be the right type of hotel for a lenghty vacation stay, although the location is really good. My only minor moan is that the wireless Internet connection was not as good as I'd expect for $15.95 a day, everything else was super-efficient..

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

The train, tram and bus services from Powell Station will get you to most places in the city and surrounding areas quickly and cheaply. The SFMTA web site has a lot of useful maps.

very nice hotel - however, charged 20$ for access to pool and 16$ for internet

Pros Hotel itself is quite nice, modern and clean. The rooms are tastefully furnished, beds are confortable, and the bathrooms are beautiful. Ideal location blocks away from Union square in the center of the city. Staff courteous, professional and welcoming Cons $20 for health club and 16$ for internet - seems like a rip-off nowadays where free wireless in hotels is generally the norm. Something that I would expect when paying $150 for a room. Quick solve: there is a starbucks right next door, grab a coffee and surf the net for free

Weekend get-a-way

Enjoy stay. Took advantage of the amenities; spa and pool. Location was great. Didn't like $45.00 charge for parking. I believe it should be greatly discounted for guest, not priced higher than all other surrounding parking areas. I almost decided on another hotel, because of that charge. Mulling over that charge could impact future plans to stay at the Hotel Nikko.

As advertised, nothing more or less

Great central location. Normal 4-star quality in terms of rooms, cleanliness, lobby decorations, etc. $20 to use the pool/spa is silly as is the $15 daily Wifi charge. However, those over-charges for basic amenities are expected at 4-star places. Restaurants/bars within the hotel are similarly useless in terms of value. Would stay again--never booked for amenities, just location so I'm happy.

Nice hotel for the price i paid

Overall this is a very nice hotel. The location couldn't be better. It's within walking distance to the shopping area, the museums, and the BART/MUNI station. The room was kind of small but it was well-kept. I am going to have to agree with some of the other comments I've read about too many fees. There are fees for internet access ($15.95/day#, fitness center #1-time $20 fee). Other than that, the hotel was A-OK.

tub in the room

The room was as I had hoped. There was indeed a bathtub in our bathroom, just normal size but I didn't expect anything large for the price I paid. It was a shower/tub combo so not like in the picture. The room was quiet on the ninth floor and was clean. The pillows were fluffy and soft and the bed was comfortable. Parking was $45 a night which was more than I expected, but I suppose it's like that everywhere in san francisco. I enjoyed my one day concert vacation and hotel nikko provided the perfect room.

Excellent Hotel that happens to cater to Japanese

We had an excellent stay at this hotel. This is right downtown so the activities of the union square neighborhood can filter up to the room but it wasn't too bad. Clean, comfy bed. Decent size. Would have liked to know in advance that pool was an extra charge.

Hotel Nikko - Convention Booking

We really enjoyed staying at the Hotel Nikko. We booked our room late but were able to get a good rate at a good hotel. The room was somewhat small, but very clean and fresh. The hotel restaurant was very good. Room service was also good. The hotel allowed us to stay an extra night because of the East Coast Storm that affected our return flight. It is up a hill from convention center, but very close. We will be please to stay there again.

Perfect Location for Shopping

Came to SF to shop, location was only 1 block from major stores! Our room wasn't ready at check-in but staff offered an upgraded room for a minimal charge that was available immediately. And even though that room didn't come with breakfast and wine reception, they let us keep those amenities. The free breakfast was a nice buffet and it included the tip. i had stayed at the nikko a few years ago and was happy with my stay. this time, however, everything about it - including the location which is overrun with homeless people - was a little down at the heels. my room was inexpensive ($300) but absolutely tiny. two people would have had a difficult time walking around the bed. also, their cable channels are very limited - no hgtv!

Excellent hotel near Unon Square

Excellent hotel. Service is very good, location near Union Square is great - close enough, but not noisy. The bed and pillows are the best of the top rated SF hotels. Get a room with breakfast included -- this is a super breakfast that includes foods for everyone's diet, full American, Japanese or healthy at the buffet. I usually like to stay at boutique hotels, but this offers the best of a boutique and a large hotel.

One night in San Fran

The location of the hotel is great because it is in walking distance to just about everything but that was the only real up side to the hotel. The staff wasn't helpful nor were they all that friendly and the bar which is supposed to open at 2:00PM was dark and without any sign of staff and I went down to grab a glass of wine at 2:30PM! Oh and by the way, I was told by the concierge that the bar was open!!! Too expensive for no service at all.

Loved the Nikko!

We arrived late and only stayed for a night, but Nikko really wowed us. The staff was phenomenal, friendly, and helpful. We did not have a chance to check out Anzu, the in hotel restaurant, but the roomservice food was superb and of restaurant quality. The complimentary breakfast said continental when we arrived, but in the morning it was a huge spread with everything one could want for breakfast. Good location, good food, cool hotel, and great staff and service. We will definitely be staying at the Hotel Nikko next time we are in SF.

This was my second time to stay at Nikko. The room is nice, clean, and comfortable. Since I was traveling with a lot of electronics, the numerous power outlets made me happy. One thing that I wanted that was not available in the room I had was a refrigerator. The front desk staff can be rather abrupt at times, but eventually you get where you're going.

Hotel Nikko--modern and convenient

Stayed at Hotel Nikko for a large international conference. Though the room was small, it was very modern and contempoary in design. Bed was extremely comfortable and bathroom was spacious. The workout facility was nice, though there is a ten dollar charge for its use.

We were really pleased with our last-minutes stay at the Nikko. The room was very inviting, the bathroom was stunning and the furniture was very comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. The fridge is a mini-bar, but you can call for a loaner fridge during your stay (we did). Paying for parking at the hotel is both ridiculous and outrageous in my opinion, but standard operating procedure in SF. The hotel was conveniently located for everything we wanted to do during our stay in the city. When in SF, we will stay there again!

Not what I would expect..

Overall, the service and the hotel is good. The only thing that was unexpectedly good was the size of the bathroom. It was big compared to other hotels in the SF. Once thing that really ticks me off is that they seem to nickel and dime the guests. Gym costs extra, access to the AT&T wifi costs money. It's internet and in the heart of SF, everyone gives you free internet. So, I hit the Starbucks downstairs that provides free wifi to everyone.. darn it.. the hotel is still hijacking the wifi.. It's like petty things like this that simply, I won't believe it is a 4 star hotel.. These amenities should be free for the price you're paying a night ($250+) Also, the noise from the street? please provide better insulated windows so that the garbage pickup at 5AM won't wake people up on the 6th floor.

Great Conference Location

I had a conference at this hotel several years ago and when I saw that another conference was going to be here, I signed up right away! My wife and I love the location of this hotel because of it's proximity to Union Square and all of it's shopping opportunities, but especially because of the many quality but diverse restaurants within a short walking distance from the hotel. We were here for 4 days and never ate at the same restaurant more than once except for the breakfast buffet at Anzu, because it was included with our room rate on the Imperial Club floor. Having the beautiful 24 hr gym to workout in and high speed internet access all included in our room rate with the daily buffet breakfast was indeed a bargain! [...] I was able to upgrade to the Imperial Club floor with all of it's amenities and still save $13 per night over the special rate we received for attending the conference there!

If you get a chance, go to the top floor of Macy's down the street and eat at the Cheesecake Factory! They have an incredible number of menu selections to choose from. During dinner hours, I would go right up and sign in, then go shopping at Macy's until it's close to the time for your table to be ready because it can be a long wait otherwise.

SF Fun Weekend

Staying at the Hotel Nikko in Union Square left us with a variety of options - The Wharf/Pier 39, Chrissy Field and the Marina, and also downtown for some shopping. It was a blessed weekend and the only thing we would have changed was to spend 2 nights instead of 1. The Nikko staff was escellent: friendly, great service, and always there when you needed them. We look forward to our next trip!

Classy, but Full of Fees

[...] I felt like I had gotten a great deal: $105.76 for a room with a king-sized bed and excellent surrounding views of downtown San Francisco. Although the hotel is spectacular in regard to cleanliness, atmosphere, and comfort...the excessive amount of fees that I ended up paying made my stay less pleasant. Amentities such as internet and pool costed me additional costs. Parking is also absurdly expensive. Overall, I would recommend Hotel Nikko, but only if you're freely willing to spend "excess cash."

Hotel Nikko is located right on the heart of downtown San Francisco, close to all major attractions. Upgraded to a suite which was well worth it. Really nice hotel with large hidden fees

My girlfriend and I stayed there for Valentine's Day. It was very nice except for some hidden fees. You have no choice but to use their valet parking ($54 daily). The sign stating the price was facing the window of ENTERPRISE rent-a-car rather than the driveway, so you have no way of knowing the price until you have a claim ticket in your hand and your car is already parked. The room was very nice. We got the room with a single king bed. Half the room was taken by a VERY extravagant bathroom. As for the living area, there was little more room than needed to walk around the edge of the bed. BEWARE of the mini-fridge. It has sensors to detect if an item is removed. If you remove an item just to merely LOOK at it and put it back - you will be charged. Also the single-pane windows make you VERY aware of what is going on in the street - even on the 12th floor. Overall it was a nice stay - but it will probably be my last in this particular hotel.

four stars

It's very close to the parking garage and to Union Square shopping center. The hotel itself was really nice, considering the price we paid for it. It would've been better if we didn't have to pay an extra fee to access the fitness center. Overall it was a really good hotel, and would recommend it to everyone. Great couples getaway

My girlfriend and I just wanted to get away to San Francisco for a day. This hotel was right next to Union Square, and reasonably close to the wharf. Service was extremely friendly, room was quiet and very clean. Front desk gives a map which is very helpful to find your way around. Next time, I would do some research to find a parking garage close to the hotel to avoid the valet charge.

SF overnight

Thought I got a good rate [...] ($114)...got to the Hotel & I was immediately charged $51.00 for overnight parking & then an additional $10.00 to use the Hotel Fitness Center which really was dismal in the form of equipment. The parking charge was excessive in my mind and I spoke to other guests who were NOT charged to use the fitness center...[...]. Then to top it off my room was next to a loud mother and child who were running back and forth & jumping on beds & screaming for two hours (11 PM - 1PM); the management finally came and resolved the situation after my third phone call. Great location, some staff were exceptional some were pretty rude...not sure I would stay there again especially since the parking & gym rate were equal to 50% of the room rate. I'm all for making a profit, but an honest profit.

Excellent location. But the facilities of this kind of pricing is disappointing. Old fixtures, no complimentary distilled water! Really old version of TV and bad signal reception. three star disguised as four.

Hotel room was small which was expected from downtown SF. The valet parking is $50 dollars, which is absurd because you can park next door for $20. To use the pool they charge $10 dollars a person. Hotel is a three star, nothing about the service, rooms, or property made me think it was a 4-star. The fact that they nickel and dime you for everything in the place means I will never go back. You pay more for a 4-star to use the pool facilities, not pay more to pay even more upon arrival for services that are standard for the star rating of the hotel. Next time ill stay at the Hilton.

The Hotel Nikko Rocks!

This was my 2nd trip to the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco! This time, I went with my 9 year old daughter. Our room was a petite queen, which for the money, I would step up and go for the deluxe king, which I had before. It is not that much more, and worth it. Our room was small, but clean, and quiet. It had everything we needed. We were shopping in the city for the holidays. After being on our feet all day shopping, we decided to use the pool facilities, which were very nice. an inside pool and hot tub, and in the lady's locker room, {no charge for lockers, but a one time $10 charge to use the gym-pool-locker)a sauna, steam room, and tons of fresh clean towels!!!! not to mention clean spa type showers! relaxing, and peaceful to say the least! then back up to our nice quiet room with nice crisp sheets, and a great mattress. I will stay in this hotel again. For the money, you get quite a deal.

Awful and Dirty Hotel

Other than the location, this hotel was awful and my room was not very clean at all! When I first arrived, I had to request fresh linens because the sheets on my bed had hair on them. The furniture was old, tatered and worn and looked like something someone threw out for the trash on the curb. The carpet and the curtains were stained and there were scuff marks all over the walls. Even the lamp shade had stains. I took pictures and emailed them to management. Even they could not deny the poor condition of the room. The only good thing about Hotel Nikko is, it's in walking distance of everything - great shopping, good restaurants etc. This was by far the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. If I'm ever in the San Fran area again, I will not stay there again.

Small Hotel

The pool was cold and the bottom of the pool was coming apart. The jacuzzi was barely 65 degrees and we had to pay an additional fee at checkin to even use it! The hotel products and amenities are cheap and horrible, comparable to a cheap motel. The room is so extremely small there isnt even anywhere to put a suitcase. The television barely had 10 channels and most of them were static. We ordered two desserts for room service and the bill was 42 dollars. When I asked the staff for information about THEIR restuarant they were short with me and not informative. We tried to ask for extra towels and it took over 45 minutes so we had to just go to the health center and grab a bunch. The only plus about this hotel is that there is a starbucks on site. We also could not get a bellmen to come to the room so we carried our own bags. For the price stay at a Red Lion or something at fishermens wharf because the location is hardly worth the horrible hotel and service.

Great hotel location, near Union

Great hotel location, near Union Square but not too close. We stayed in an Imperial room on executive floors. Very good value given the inclusions available

Hotel Nikko San Francisco

This hotel is wonderful! My husband and I went there on our first overnight date without the kids in 16 years. It is centrally located in the heart of S.F. in a nice, safe neighborhood. Our initial room was not satisfactory,(it smelled like a cigarette, which is not allowed) and the staff graciously changed (and upgraded!) our room. We were also given an option to upgrade to a JR suite on the next night. We took the upgrade! Breakfast/brunch was fresh and delicious. The staff (from the valets, luggage handlers and front desk) are all professional, prompt and courteous. The pool/spa is the nicest in any hotel we've been in,with plenty of room for swimmers didn't echo alot, and there wasn't an overpowering chlorine smell. We had tickets for "WICKED" (very highly recommended!!) and the staff was very prompt and helpful getting us a cab to the theatre. There are lots of nice 24hr cafes' close by, Union Square was 2 blocks away as well as Market Street. We enjoyed a 2 hour tour atop the double-decker motorized cable car (also highly recommended) Our stay was fantastic. We cannot wait to come back, and bring our children with us. The JR suite is perfect for families with plenty of room for everyone. Also, we met some Chicago Cubs players in hotel lobby! Hotel Nikko is a 5 star hotel without the snobbiness. Just a wonderfully gracious spacious hotel.

Great Stay

Hotel was great. Provided everything that was needed very quickly. The only bad thing that i can say is that the neighboorhood gets pretty sketchy a block or two away.

Convenient Location, Average Hotel

I stayed at Hotel Nikko for a short 4 night/ 5 day vacation. The location was good, just three blocks from the Powell/Market transit hub where you can pick up cable car lines, subway, F Line streetcar, and BART to and from the airport. The lobby was quite beautiful with sweeping ceilings, elegant furniture, and carrera marble floors. The room, however, certainly lived up to its name of "Petite Queen", just enough room for one person but still rather tight. The furniture and fixtures were newish but the ventilation system was spastic at best and left the room stale. The windows did not open and I had to set the temperature to 60F to get any kind of air moving. There was no room in the minibar for personal items, and moving anything stocked AUTOMATICALLY triggers a sale. I called housekeeping for fridge space; after two calls and 45 mins they brought me a beat up tiny fridge that didn't work and smelled like feet. I ended up putting my stuff on ice as best I could. Hotel Nikko wasn't awful but if I were to travel to San Francisco again I wouldn't stay there.

Great Hotel

The hotel was in a great location, about two blocks from Powell St. Station the location of cable cars, BART train, and buses. The room was a bit small but had great views and was spotless. The staff was very responsive to our requests. The locker room included a steam room and sauna, both top notch. At night the pool and hot tub area were a bit crowded with families.

Be sure you research at least a couple of restaurants and markets nearby. There are so many options, one could walk for miles and hours before finding the "perfect fit". Not such a pleasant experience on an empty stomach. The hotel was great and I would definitely book it again.

Very nice. Comfortable & Quiet

It was comfortable, clean, and quiet. I was put off that the Wifi access was paid. I've stayed at smaller, less fancy hotels where the WiFi is free. So this came off as gouge-y.

great value, great help with questions

The time we spent at your hotel was wonderful. It is centrally located - very close to dining, historic and shopping venues. S.F. is a wonderful city, very easy to get around and so many great things to do. We asked for dining suggestions almost daily and were very pleased with our experiences. I would suggest your hotel to anyone.

We rented a car for one day and got to see so many things. We had thought of doing a tour but it was less expensive to rent the car and we had a blast!
