Sophistication with an Asian flair and an indoor pool near Union Square

Hotel Nikko feels more like Hong Kong than San Francisco. The lobby is spacious, featuring white marble and rooms are minimalist in design. The on-site restaurant, Anzu, serves up Asian food with a Japanese focus. Distances at the on-site pool are measured in meters. Just steps from Union Square and the Moscone Convention Center, the Nikko is perfectly located for business travelers in town for conventions. At the same time, it is comfortable for families accustomed to sophisticated luxury.

Highlights
  • Live jazz at Feinstein's at the Nikko nightclub
  • A short walk from the shops and restaurants of Union Square
  • Spacious fifth-floor indoor pool
  • Sushi and other Asian-inspired fare available at on-site restaurant Anzu

great location

right in the heart of downtown. staff is friendly and room is nice. wasn't impressed with room service- you can't get most of the sushi menu for room service. parking is too expensive, but its normal for downtown. you can park across the street for about $9 less, but really, its not worth it by the time you get there and get your car, its been at least 15-20 min. pool is much smaller than pics make it out to be. overall a nice hotel and nice staff

Hotel Nikko Japanese Chic

The property is beautiful in an exciting part of the city just blocks from Union Square, the cable car station and Powell Street Bart Station. The hotel itself is well kept, clean, and beautiful inside. The rooms are clean, The bedding is crisp and the mattress is very comfortable. The room is quiet with very little sound coming from the other patrons or the hallway outside. The elevators are fast and little time is spent waiting for one. The workout room has all the latest equipment was a great way to stay in shape. The hotel even has an outside balcony from the pool you can sun on in the heart of the city. The only issue I had with the hotel was the parking situation. The overnight cost of using parking was 14% higher for hotel patrons over someone who does not stay at the hotel. I recommend using the parking structure across the street rather than using the hotels parking service.

Very nice hotel, Great staff

This hotel was very comfortable, the room seemed much larger than most with a desk area and a table and two chairs. I liked the fact that the bathroom was separate from the vanity area and there was a sink with a long counter and there was adequate space for hanging clothes and they provided two suitcase stands. The location was very good -- it was really only one block to Downtown Union Square and there were restaurants and shopping very close. The staff at this hotel was very friendly and helpfull. I love the starbucks that is attached to the hotel, it was great to wake up to.

Nice rooms, touristy location

very nice rooms and a great bathroom. staff was nice enough, although when i tried to extend my stay, they just weren't very helpful (might have been b/c i kept getting the same guy who just didn't seem to want to find a solution). i didn't like the location, although it seems great for those who want to be in the middle of the heavy tourist area. kind of like staying in the middle of times square in nyc. one evening, we walked to pacific heights for dinner, but about two blocks from the hotel, you're in the middle of the tenderloin district, which is extremely seedy. just be careful walking around at night.

My review of Hotel Nikko San Francisco

I thought the spa area seemed dirty. carpets looked old, needed a paint job etc. in the rooms i felt the furniture was shabby looking, chipped and gouged. stained carpets. plus the room was very small, but we got moved and the room was much bigger and the shower area was nicer, it has a vanity area, and the toilet was separate from the sink area.

VERY HARD BEDS AND PILLOWS

The hotel was simply beautiful, the staff was somewhat helpful, always seemed very very busy, but that is normal. We stayed on the top floor, well, the 24th, we needed the key in the elevator to get to that floor, and I needed to request 2 new key cards, as they somehow got de-activated, which was not a very pleasant experience, being in the elevator and not being able to go UP!! Also, our room was beautiful, with a very nice view, due to the floor to ceiling windows, but they need to do something about their bedding! The mattress and Pillows were so HARD!!!! Maybe alot of people like to sleep on hard mattress's, but at least give soft pillows to compensate! Me and my daughter both were very uncomfortable for the entire week due to the bedding situation! We were in a nice area, as long as we went out our hotel and made a RIGHT, DO NOT GO LEFT, it takes you to an area that is not the safest feeling!! I would tell people to stay at the Nikko, but to warn them about the beds and pillows. Not sure if every room has the same mattress, but they really need to look into maybe sleep number beds or something like that, this is a luxury hotel, afterall!!!!

The shopping was very close to our hotel, but they were chain stores such as Macys, Nordstroms, etc. They were rather impressive compared to the ones here in NJ, but still, you want to find more boutique type shopping, and they were NOT close to our Hotel, only the chain stores!!
