Good, but not as much as expected.
The hotel was quaint. We had a 3 night stay; a microwave and fridge would have been nice. There was no morning paper delivered. Any considering that it was in San Francisco, I guess it's normal to add so much gratuity and service charged on everything. A $5 coffee, but then to get it to your room there is a $5 surcharge and then an 18% gratuity added to all of that. You decide if that is something you want to deal with.

Former SF resident
Japantown is an overlooked gem in SF
The soaking tub was well used after a long day of sight seeing with my daughter. The bed was very good. She loved all the shops in Japantown. I appreciated the many dining establishments steps away from the hotel. centrally located, close to bus lines. A mini fridge would have been useful. The only negative comment I can make is there was no DVD player in the room, as was promised when I called to confirm my reservation.

The SF passport was a good deal, it made taking public transportation very easy. If you only have 1 or 2 days, skip Fisherman's wharf, it's a tourist trap. Go to Golden Gate Park!

Kabuki - August 2010
We were unable to completely relax in our room due to the noise level from adjacent rooms. Even normal conversations from the rooms next door were disturbingly clear and loud. The lack of insulation became more apparent on several occasions when a neighbor was extremely loud and rude in the middle of the night prompting a call to the front desk at approximately 3 am. It was not a restful stay.

Short walk from hotel
It's easy to get to many areas of the city from the hotel's location. Easy walk to Fillmore and Haight, and an easy bus ride on the 38 down Geary to downtown.

Not what I expected
I went to San Francisco to get a check up at the U.C.S.F. Liver Transplant Center. I went a day early to rest up, and not be stressed from the drive up. The Hotel is impressive inside, and I was content until I tried to go to sleep. It got noisy and increased through the night. My wife and I both were unhappy with the bed we awoke with sore backs and necks. I sprang for the room to get a peaceful and restful nights sleep, and instead had a miserable stay. The housekeepers staged their room cleaning set up right outside our door, so there was no chance of sleeping in to make up for the lost sleep at night. The door had a gap wide enough to see the hallway through it, so there was light coming in through it all night. I passed up the place at Fisherman's Warf I stayed at last time,it was fine, a bad choice. I didn't feel safe on the streets outside of the hotel, but did find a small Italian eatery a few blocks away on Fillmore, they had a red sauce of their own that was to die for. The Hotel dining is closed on Monday, so we ventured out to find a meal. The Hotel Kabuki was not as I expected, the valet parking is over priced, but the valet was the only employee to express concern over our unhappy experience, he must have apologized four times before we drove away.

Our yearly trip to San Francisco
This is our 2nd year in a row we've stayed at the Hotel Kabuki and haven't had any complaints. Love love love the location. We go specifically to spend most of our time in Japantown. But also the close proximity to Chinatown and even catching a cab to the Wharf. The rooms are great, perfect size for 3 adults and 1 child. Our little one has a blast taking a bath in their extra deep Japanese style tubs. This year our view was of the Japantown center and we went just for the Cherry Blossom festival and got to see the parade from up above.
