The hotel opened in 1968 and was renovated completely in 2007. Guests of the Hotel Kabuki can choose between rooms with Eastern or Western flair. The O Izakaya Lounge serves Japanese-inspired small plates and cocktails. Also worth noting is the $6 million collection of authentic Japanese art.

Yay Kabuki!

The renovation on this hotel is really beautiful and we were very impressed with how comfortable, clean, quiet, and lovely everything was - especially for the price! This is a great location too. While it isn't in the center of some of the standard tourist or business areas, it is located in a spot that is ridiculously convenient by car and by public transport. In a city so small, it is also easy to walk everywhere from here if you have a love for walking about. I didn't visit the spa/bathhouse on this trip but can say from previous experience that it is one of my favorite experiences of any city. If you aren't comfortable with nudity, however, you should skip it. I think the Hotel Kabuki is my new default San Francisco hotel.

at the center of things

Lovely public spaces, good service, and pleasant staff. Room well-appointed and attractively decorated; esp. liked the Japanese-style bathroom. Great view from the 15th storey, looking south. Flaw: room very HOT; no temp control; no way to obtain fresh air except opening the window, and that provided too much traffic noise. Staff provided a fan, but IMHO hotel needs an HVAC upgrade. Location was perfect for us: walking to City Center, Nob Hill, and Japantown is fun.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Park in the Japantown underground lot for $16 a day, and park a few steps from the hotel elevator - but NOT handicapped accessible from the parking lot, as far as I could see: high staircase.

Very large room

Once we stepped into the room, we were surprised by size of the room. Despite of the size, it was a 2 double beds room. So, there was a lot of empty space. The hotel may better utilize its space by putting 2 queen beds. If you are going to use the Wi-Fi at this hotel, be prepare that it is very very slow. The room had a sauna which we hadn't tried. The hotel location is very convenient, right at the Japan town. Price is OK for this location.

Will never stay again! They stole!!

My experience sucked....Prices for items in the roomed changed daily and the housekeeping stole my medication and didn't even write up the employee. I was however, comped a night but had to jump through many hoops just to get my meds back and they never offered to pay for the reimbursement of my medication. Do not recommend.
