Chic boutique establishment on the waterfront
Right in the heart of the historical San Francisco waterfront is the Hotel Griffon, combining culture and charm with cutting-edge design. As an upmarket boutique hotel, it lacks the uniformity of big chains, but still impresses with a combination of great service and stylish modern design. Moments from San Francisco Bay, the other great selling point of Hotel Griffon is its superb location and views of this vibrant city. Fans of Armistead Maupin will be delighted to eat in Perry's, the classic American restaurant immortalized in his books.
3 Reasons To Stay:
  • Unrivaled views of the Bay and Bridge
  • Contemporary style and top-notch design
  • Acclaimed Perry's restaurant attached
Hotel Griffon Rooms
With its distinctive architectural features and exposed brickwork, the guest rooms at Hotel Griffon are quirky and design-led but still extremely comfortable. Choose between a superior with queen bed, and deluxe with king. Both rooms have down bedding, 300-thread-count bed linens, and plush mattresses. IPod docking stations are a nice touch, as well as the 32-inch flat-screen televisions that come as standard. Well-stocked bathrooms provide robes, high-class complimentary toiletries such as Aveda, and marble vanity units. Complimentary turndown service and daily newspaper are thrown in, making the Hotel Griffon feel more of a luxury package than many boutique hotels. Deluxe king rooms also offer twice-daily housekeeping and room service, should the guest require it. Nonsmoking throughout, guests are well advised to request a room with a view of the glittering San Francisco Bay, which can be appreciated from the comfortable window seat. The hotel also offers its guests the use of a small but intimate boardroom with dining facilities and balcony area, as well as access to the adjoining health club and pool (fees apply). Another bonus is free Wi-Fi in the hotel lobby, and of course the chance to dine in the Iconic Perry's restaurant.

Too little for too much money

For the money, I thought the room was too small and the ac didn't work very well, thankfully it is SF so it doesn't get that hot. Our view was literally a building wall with privacy glass on the window so it isn't as obvious. Thought the staff was less than helpful when asking for anything. Overall for the money, I would rather pay extra or be a little further from the water and have a nicer hotel room.

Understated class

After a long day of travel the quiet and unobtrusive front desk process was a welcome change from the usual hubbub. The room was cozy and well appointed, the dining was casual and delectable, the front desk knowledgeable and helpful, the location safe and picturesque, and the overall experience comfortable.

Not Impressed.

Rude and most unhelpful staff I have ever encountered. Don't expect them to know ANYTHING. So that was disappointing. Though the room was very small, it nice and clean. The view from the hallway window was the Bay Bridge - pretty, of course. I would not stay here again.

Personal and Cozy

The hotel is in a great location, as we'd intended to explore the Embarcadero, and this was a block away. Excellent restaurants abound nearby, and most other tourist locations were easily walkable within 20 minutes or quickly via public transportation. From the moment we drove up to the front entrance of the hotel, excellent service from hotel staff took over; we were quickly processed and helped to our room on the third floor, and our vehicle valet-parked. The room we booked was the smallest we've experienced in the city, but it was tastefully decorated, and amenities new and complete. As our window faced into the center of buildings, outside noise was non-existent, so we had a good night's sleep. Our 2.5 year old had fun playing on our queen bed, and went to sleep early in the portable crib that we brought. Very nice place and staff; was it worth the $199 we paid? We haven't decided yet... but very possibly considering the great location.

Hotel Griffon, San Francisco, CA

Upgraded Bay View nice, recommend you request top floor. On 2nd floor temperature high, vent behind the flatscreen causing air to circulate hot. Offered a 6 inch fan to compensate, changed to standard handicap room and lost the romantic feel. Carpet very dirty. Very noisy, recommend you stay elsewhere and closer to the Fisherman's Wharf end. Then charged $75.00 incidental fee and after a week still not credited to my account.

Go to Pier 39 and see the great shops, food, and entertainment. Also Ghiradelli Square at the Wharf and more to see/eat there too.
