Cool place to stay
We stayed at the Holiday Inn San Francisco. The room we had was nice. It was very easy to get around, we just had to walk half a block to catch the trolly which took us to every major part of the city. We would stay there again.

Good location
I was pleased to find both the bus and subway stops to be one block away. Anywhere i went, it was easy to get to and from hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the cashier at the gift shop. My only small complaint is the vending machines. I got a super small bottle of water for $1.50...talk about a rip off.

It gets very shady late at night. I took a four block walk up to a restaurant off the major boulevard (Market) and i was contemplating a cab. There are a few adult stores there and it gets its share of peculiar characters.

Holiday Inn San Francisco-Civic Center
I checked in and thought I would get one king bed and was given room with two bed. It's not a big deal and was given good service and the staff didn't give me so much of a hard time.

Great place, but not a WOW.
The Holiday Inn SF Civic Center was a nice place to stay. The location was conveniently located in the San Francisco Civic Center area (now also referred to SOMA - South market). Everything was nice, just not quite GREAT. Our family enjoyed the stay but the initial check-in started things off on the wrong note. The day of check-in I called at 12PM to request an early check-in. The gentleman I spoke with said that our room was available and that this wouldn't be a problem. When we arrived the lady at the front desk insinuated that we were lying about the request. We asked her to check the reservation but she asked other people at the desk about our call. Once she finally looked at the reservation, notes were made that identified the request her mood didn't change. It could have been the day, the weather, the employee, but if requesting an early check-in at this hotel you MIGHT want to consider calling twice, or asking to place a sticky note on someone's forehead over there so everyone is aware of your request. :) Other than this you can expect to pay $27 a day for parking in the garage, but this is a much better option than chancing things with parking on a street (if you're lucky), and walking a few blocks to get to the hotel. The room was clean, the pool was nice, there were many nice features, other interactions with the staff was great, just not a WOW.

There are a few good hole in the wall Chinese Restaurants and it looks like most of them deliver. There is a hole in the wall Pizza place right around the corner (within walking) and a donut shop we enjoyed also. The restaurants the hotel refers you to are more upscale, or vegeterian dinning, so you might consider asking about the smaller places.

okay, except one night.
EVERYTHING WAS WENT WELL EXCEPT ON OUR 3RD DAY STAY, THE FIRE ALARM WENT OFF THREE TIMES. WE ARE SUPPOSED TO REST EARLY THAT NIGHT BUT THEY CLOSED THE ELEVATORS SO WE HAVE TO STAY MORE THAN HALF AN HOUR IN THE LOBBY WAITING TO BE CLEARED THE HOTEL ROOMS. ALSO ONCE WE WENT TO THE ROOM THE ALARM WENT OFF AGAIN. IT WAS VERY INCONVENIENT THAT NIGHT ESPECIALLY THAT WE ARE SO TIRED AND WE WANT TO REST.
