Great location. Great price.
yankeegirl Nov 28, 2009
This was our first visit to SF, and we went to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary over the July 4th holiday. It was an ... outstanding trip. We did all the typical tourist things, and enjoyed every minute of our stay in SF and at The Handlery. I can't emphasize enough how perfectly located this hotel is. I would definitely go back.

This hotel is centrally located not only to all the upscale shops, but more important, it is a short walk to all modes of transportation. All attractions are accessible via public transportation, and this city's public transportation system is great. If you have the time, take BART out to Berkeley and walk around. Beautiful campus, lots of interesting little shops.

Our stay at the Handlery was great. The room was huge, the beds were comfortable, and we even had a complimentary gift ... basket and bottle of wine in our room for booking with [...]. The staff was very friendly and the hotel is located right around the corner from where our conference was held, for less than half the price. We will definitely stay at the Handlery for all future trips to San Francisco.

Nike Woman's Marathon and a great Hotel
Runner's Husband Oct 22, 2009
My wife ran the Nike Women's Half Marathon. We stayed at the Handlery two years ago and found it to be a great place to stay ... at a reasonable price. We really like the location, convenient for the race start and in the middle of the action. Handlery staff was great and our room, on both visits was clean and in a quiet part of the hotel. We will stay there again when we return to San Fransisco.

Concierge was excellent! The hotel was adjacent to great shopping, good food, art and theater, easy access to transportation ... and within walking distance of many sites including China Town. Handlery in Union Square a great hotel!
New Yorker that loves San Francisco! Sep 24, 2009
Really loved this hotel. We stayed here the last time we were in San Francisco. We really loved the pool again! Hardly ... anyone used it and we had it mostly to ourselves. l liked being on the O'Farrell street side of the hotel this time. (Last time we were on the Geary street side) Our room windows looked down towards Market Street and made for a very entertaining view. If I had any negative thoughts about the Handlery, it would be that I wish they had better television sets in the room. Overall, an excellent hotel that I would stay at again.

There is a new cupcake place on O'Farrell street steps away and across the street (going towards Powell) that is called: CAKO'S. Oh my God, they have the most delicious cupcakes! Make sure you try them! They're REALLY good!

There are some great places near the Handlery: First Crush for flights, food and dessert. Millenium on Geary has phenomenal vegan fare and I'm not a vegan! Hyde Street Seafood House is also delish. As a special treat we went to the Top of the Mark for live music and martinis late night. The view of the city is amazing.

Only buy 1 day pass for cable car/trolley. It can be used over and over because no one looks at it. City Sightseeing tours are very nice especially Golden Gate Tour which takes you across the bridge.

do NOT rent a car! Parking is hard to find downtown and expensive!! Purchase the muni transportation pass. $18 for 3 days or $24 for 7 days. U can ride any bus, cable car, or street car unlimited. The transportatin system is great! U can get anywhere quickly! Cable car rides are $5 a pop and buses $2. Pays for itself and eveyone downtown uses the transportation.

--Vivi, Canberra, Australia Aug 8, 2009
There are plenty of NICE restaurants (depending on the amount of money you are willing to spend) around the city and most are in walking distance. Try to map out places you want to go and which route to take if you want to use the Muni (the public transportation). Plan early-save time and money.
