Too close to the fire station for sleep!

The Greenwich Inn is one block off of Lombard St. I thought that would mean less noise. Well, I did not hear that much street traffic noise, but it is less than 1/2 a block from a fire station. Everynight and several times a day, I heard the fire trucks taking off. These guys started the sirens the second they hit Greenwich St. One night, they left 3 times, sirens blaring. The room was clean enough, but don't stay there if you want a quiet place for sleep. A side note-no air conditioning. It was hot the weekend I was there and would have loved AC.

The good, the bad, and the really ugly

The hotel staff put my daughter and I on the first floor in a nonsmoking room. The room smelled like cigarettes so we complained and he put us in another room on the second floor. This room was really stuffy, but didn't smell like cigarettes. We left the room at 1:00 and didn't return until 10:00 that night. We were exhausted so we feel asleep immediately, but the bed felt like a futon. The sheets also had bleach stains, and stray long hairs were found on the pillows and on the sheets. The next day my daughter had bites on her legs we assumed were bed bugs. We were there shopping for a prom dress and have always stayed in union square. We were looking for a quieter location with less crowds. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone and will also be contacting AAA. The price, location, and safety of the hotel was great, but it wasn't worth all the negatives!

I would stay here again, but...

The two things has going for it: the location, and the free parking. Great starting point if you would like to park the car and use public transportation. I did and found the bus system to be clean, efficient and handy to the motel. A block away. Fisherman's wharf is walkable from here, but it is a fairly long walk. If you're in shape, don't sweat it. As far as the room goes, it was of marginal cleanliness. Rug was worn out long ago, with many stains and wear. There were no bugs, which pleased the wife greatly. Walls were marked up and need some touch up paint. I'd stay again. If you go, just don't expect the Hilton.

Great location but...

The cleanliness was not up to par. Honestly we were looking for a bargain and "you get what you pay for" totally applies. Although the location was awesome, right smack in the middle of great restaurants, boutiques and adorable neighborhoods, our room was not very clean. Mainly the shower floor was slimy and moldy in the corners and when we asked the room service to clean it we came back from our day on the town and they had'nt. And one night the couple next door had a big fight, no fault of the hotel though, but just to add to the experience....However the parking was great, because in that area it is very hard to find parking so we were happy to be able to just walk around to explore the sights since everything was so close by!

Again the parking was a great plus to have since you could just walk within a block's distance and find some great food!!

Adequate for the price

The price was right, but this is a case of you get what you pay for.

The room was clean but small, good room for the price. Very friendly after they finally check me in. Only two blocks from lots of shops and restuartants.
