Very enjoyable stay!
The hotel is in an excellent location for the centre of San Francisco I particular Union Square and the shops! My only complaint about this hotel was the room size, there was four of us in the room and we had very little space for our luggage, but this would not stop me from staying again, lovely hotel and lovely staff and very comfy beds!

Best Location in FiDi
We have looked at this hotel a few times in the past but didn't choose it because we found better deals. We decided to go with it this time and we were so happy we did! The rooms are very, very small and not at all fancy but pretty and clean as is the whole facility. The location is superb for access to the FiDi's great restaurants, Chinatown, Maiden Lane's shops and Union Square as well as Market Street and public transportation. We hopped on a bus that stopped on the corner next to the hotel each morning and went to North Beach for coffee at either Caffe Roma or Caffe Trieste; we were within a couple of blocks of Market to catch the streetcar for a trip to Castro. The perfect location as far as we are concerned. Wine and coffee provided in the mezzanine, although we did not partake of it.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Claude Lane is just a short walk away and has three good restaurants: Claudine, Gitane (with the sexiest bar in SF) and Cafe Claude, a totally Frenchy cafe with marvelous food and live jazz.

Everything is great, except the coffee table should set up in the main lobby instead of 2nd floor. You won't notice if you don't ask.

great location for a San Fran Stay
We had a great stay. We were within walking distance to Shopping, Chinatown and Fishermans Wharf. The staff was very helpful when we need to find something. The room was small for a family of 4 but were not in there much. The beds are actually small and a little soft. All in all a great experience.

Noisy Location - Unhappy
San Francisco, pretty city and pretty noisy, it seems, at night. There was a big construction going on across the street from our room, very noisy and it made it very difficult to sleep. The street noise is also considerable during the week (things beyond their control). The room: the bathroom fan was not working and after they 'fixed' it, it would only make noise and not extract any air from the bathroom. The shower curtain had that pink mold at the bottom. They "upgraded" us from a double bed room to a king+pull-out-sofa. This was done without our consent and before we even got there. This was a total DOWNGRADE. The staff seems friendly enough. I wouldn't stay here again.

Short walk from hotel
If you are planning on getting on the cable cars, it is best to buy the Day Passport, which gives you a lot more flexibility and gives you access to all the MUNI modes of transportation. Important with so many people in the city and waiting times.

Very convenient and friendly hotel
We were doing a grandmother/mother/daughter trip and shared a room with 2 full beds. The room was not the largest, but it worked for us. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly! The bathrooms were extremely clean and I loved the terrace with the walking track on the 3rd floor. Would definitely stay here again. The rate could not be beat, although the mini bar was pricey. I did enjoy the affordable room service from the sushi/mexican cafe next door.

Central location, tiny accommodations
The hotel has a nice location, close to China Town and Union Square for shopping. However, the rooms are extremely small, one other guest compared them to a walk in closet! If you are positioned in a room facing the street, it is very noisy throughout the night. Window air conditioners are not very effective...For a single traveler, it would probably be fine...but for a family, you cannot walk past each other...someone has to move onto the bed or back up to let you pass.

glitch on reservations handled well
We had reserved four months in advance and were en route when we found the hotel had no room. A good explanation was not forthcoming. BUT - they had arranged a room for us nearby at a bed and breakfast that was lovely, paid for our entire night and gave us a voucher for a cab ride to cover where we needed to go. Th ewoman at the fornt desk was professional and helpful under the constraints she had.
