Really check out the menu before going to any of the rest. Some look great but overcharge and you get very little for you money. Eating out was the biggest cost of the trip. Look for smaller and less tourist style places and you will be better off.

Horrible stay due to hotel strike

The staff was the best, any question i ask they were prepared and gave simple and helpful hints. Recommend to eat at several ... cafes close by the Hotel is over priced for what you get on the food side. Monday AM they had buffet and it cost $57.00 (for 2) a limited selection, doesn't sound bad but it was too high. Clean rooms, great view (19th floor). Parking garage is great location for Hotel. GRAND HYATT SAN FRANCISCO NIGHTMARE

It qualifies as a 4-star hotel.Great room. Great room location=20th floor overlooking Union Square. Did not rent car in San ... Fran and glad- because I found out that GRAND HYATT charges $49.00 (!) per day to park your car ,Absolutely ridiculous. One scary event: 1 A.M....heard two female voises outside my door. Two young and drunk women leaning against my door. I asked them to please be quite,sleeping,etc.., One said I was "awful last night...threatened me...I told them I wasn't even there 'last night'....I called security and they came up and took care of it,but it was frightening.

Great location but small room/shower

doboy Sep 28, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

We had a room on the 12th floor with a great view of the city. The room was small with a very small bathroom and the shower ... had curtains which seemed pretty cheap. The bed was fantastic and there were plenty of plush pillows so we got great sleep. There were 6 elevators but I felt that they were a little slow. The location was fantastic as it was 1/2 block to all the shops and Union Square. We also ate at the Grandview Restaurant on the 36th floor which had a great view and the portions were decent size. I would stay here once again if I had to plan another shopping trip to SF.

great for us

Jeannie Sep 27, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The only complaint we might have would be was when we checked in we were treated like lower class citizens, because we booked ... through Orbitz and told that all the king beds were gone and all they had were two doubles in a room. This was not a problem for us, although, a queen or king is what was requested, not double, it was the way it was presented. Everything else was great. We were there on business, but we also went to a Giants baseball game, and we went to dinner at O'Doul's and walked around Union Square. We have been to the city many times so it was just nice to get away for a few days.

Good value for the price and location.

Hiilani Sep 21, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

For the price during the time of year stayed, this hotel was a great value. Its location is excellent, within walking ... distance to everything in the Union Square area. The self-park arrangement between the hotel and the parking garage is excellent. The decor is beautiful and the views were great. In the future, I'd like to see more electrical outlets available for travelers with lots of items that need electricity. We had two adults traveling with the following (2 laptops, 2 cell phones, electric shaver, digital camera charger, 2 ipods), and finding available and easily accessible electrical outlets near the desk area was difficult because of the room's existing items that required outlets (e.g., tv, lamps, coffee pot). However, overall it was a great stay. Wish we had more time to stay longer.

Dining tip, Short Drive

Really check out the menu before going to any of the rest. Some look great but overcharge and you get very little for you money. Eating out was the biggest cost of the trip. Look for smaller and less tourist style places and you will be better off.

Money savers tip, Short Walk

A senior like myself can pay 75 cents for a troLley ticket and with a transfer ride pretty much anywhere all day. I never got a cab. Warned about scams..."overcharging..taking the long way to destination with meter running,etc...". OTHER: Easy to get top the SF Intl Airport downtown using BART transit system....only $8.10 and took me to Powell Street Station a short 3 block walk to Gramd Hyatt.Clean and very efficient/

Shopping tip, Short Walk

Check out the food court below the mall with Nordstrom & Bloomingdales. There is a gourmet grocery store down there also.

Money savers tip

Park at either the self park Sutter-Stockton garage for about $30 or the 450 Sutter Garage for $30 as compared with the Grand Hyatt which charged $50 a night.

--doboy, Sacramento, CA Sep 28, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Walk

Take advantage of the hotel's central location in the Union Square area, as it is in close proximity (walking distance) to great shopping and dining, and easily walkable to farther shopping/dining locations north, south, east and west of the hotel. *****ATTENTION Hyatt Programming Staff: Need rating definitions for the Satisfaction Survey below. Don't know if far left is "Excellent" and far right is "Poor," or the other way around.*****

Money savers tip, Short Walk

Park in Union Square Lot!!!!! $32 dollars for the night and very close... across the street! Valet appeared to be VERY SLOW! My husband walked to the car and pulled it around long before the people waiting in line even got to the valet desk... PLUS The bellmen (2) even helped put the luggage in the car.... nice touch.

Money savers tip, Long Walk

Just park once in a nearby parking garage. Then walk around and explore Union Square, Chinatown, and Little Italy. Don't drive to each neighborhood, since it is easier to park once and walk. You don't have to hassle finding a parking spot or driving in difficult streets.

--City Explorer, Castaic, CA Aug 23, 2009

Money savers tip

If you don't have a car and don't like walking, then take the bus! The bus fare was only $2 for the whole day. They give you a ticket when you pay and every time you get on the bus you just show your ticket.

--Kim, San Diego, CA Aug 11, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

Numerous mid-tier dining choices are available within walking distance.

--Senior Traveler, Scottsdale, AZ Aug 9, 2009

Entertainment tip, Short Walk

Hyatt is walking distance to China Town, Cablecar, Market, Business district and Embarcadero. It is a perfect location. There are numerous restaurants just a block or two away.

Dining tip, Short Walk

Hotel rstaruant a bit expensive but plenty of places to eat near by especially Cheesecake factory in Macy's and China Town.

--First timer in SF, Tucson, AZ Jul 23, 2009

Dining tip, Long Walk

If you are adventurous enough to wander into the Tenderloin District there is a great Indian/Pakistani Restaurant called the Shalimar, just off Van Ness and Polk. Grubby area, not much atmosphere, but great food and great prices.

--Happy Couple, Calgary Ab Jul 12, 2009

Entertainment tip, In Hotel

The view from the Grandview Restaurant Lounge is just outstanding on a clear day. Take time to relax at the lounge and take in the view of SF. Try their hamburger sliders up there with french fries as a snack of light meal. It's very delicious.

--Traveling Hawaiians, Aiea, Hawaii Jul 8, 2009

Money savers tip

Take the BART from SFO's international terminal to the Powell street stop. The cost is $5.35 and the hotel is a short 5 block walk or cable car trip from there.

--Chris, Los Angeles Jul 2, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

The Ferry building was a great spot for lunch or breakfast and shopping. A smaller Pike's Market.
