Perched in regal splendor atop historic Nob Hill, the Fairmont San Francisco in San Francisco invites both business and leisure guests into an effortlessly elegant world of sumptuous accommodations, fine dining and exemplary service.

A magnificent marriage of classic and modern sophistication, recently renovated rooms overlook fabulous city and bay views and feature such luxe delights as oversize marble baths, opening windows and spacious sitting areas.

Savor the opulence of afternoon tea in the magnificent lobby, a grand century-old hotel tradition spiced up with honey from the hotel garden’s beehives.

Rooms

Accommodations -- 591 rooms, 62 of them suites -- span two buildings: the original, circa-1907 structure and a tower built in the 1960s. Rooms vary in size (325-425 square feet; up to 6,000 for suites), but all units come with flat-panel TV, luxury linen ensembles and coffeemaker. Many also offer stunning views of San Francisco Bay, while Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access are available in all (fees apply, complimentary to members of Fairmont President's Club loyalty program).

Property features

The hotel has received numerous awards, including the AAA Four Diamond Award and ExxonMobil Four Star Award.

Marble floors and Corinthian columns trimmed in gold accentuate the ornate Main Lobby. This area, spruced up in 1999, transports guests back to 1907, when the hotel opened. It may also transport TV fans back to the 1980s: Aaron Spelling's "Hotel" series was shot here.

The United Nations Charter was drafted in the hotel, and even the concierge service is historic. Dating back to 1973, it's the first formal concierge desk in the U.S.

All guests have access (fees apply) to the on-site ActiveSports Clubs at Nob Hill, a full-service facility with spa and fitness center.

Grab a Mai-Tai at the Tonga Room and Hurricane Bar, a kitschy-but-lovable Tiki lounge on site. Every night form 8 PM, a band on a floating stage, The Island Groove, serenades patrons with Polynesian tunes .

Highlights

Situated at the only spot in the city where all the cable car lines meet, this luxurious San Francisco property is just a short scenic ride away from all the city’s dazzling sights and attractions, meaning hotel guests can easily head out to savor such adventures as hiking through Golden Gate Park or gorging on seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf.

Step outside your door into a wonderful world of fine dining establishments, magnificent museums and elegant entertainment, or stay cocooned in the Fairmont’s lap of luxury and fit in some laps at the indoor pool, followed by dinner and drinks at your choice of three world-renowned restaurants, the Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar, Laurel Court Restaurant & Bar, and the European-inspired Caffé Centro.

Big Hotel

The Fairmont is an interesting hotel--if you like large properties this is the place to stay. I found it too big with tons of people milling around the lobby. They also have a new wing of rooms, which we found were not to our liking.

Historic Charmer

Great moderate sized hotel with a ton of old world charm and within walking distance to shopping, restaurants, sight seeing, cable cars and cable car musuem right outside property, etc. The restaurant in the hotel looked mighty pricey but other than that, a wonderful stay - we did do the tikki bar and that was really fun. We would highly recommend.

Lovely on the outside..................

I was looking forward to staying at the Fairmount in SF after having been a guest at another Fairmount and having a wonderful experience. When I was unpacking, it was disappointing to find the stacked shelves in the closet for storing clothes was caked with dirt. I had to use a hot towel to wash down the shelving before putting my clothes on them. The housekeeping leaves much to be desired. There were dirty tissues left on the floor from a previous guest and other dirt on the carpet surface which meant the room had not been vaccuumed before my arrival. I did speak to the manager and after checking the room he agreed with my findings and apologized. After coming back to the room one night Icould not find the remote control for the tv. After searching the room unsuccessfully, I called and asked for another remote. When I was getting ready for bed that evening i found the remote which had been made in the bed by housekeeping. It also confirmed that my sheets were not changed. The glasses in the room were not replaced nor were the dirty ones taken away for 2 days! I also ran out of soap and needed to call for more because fresh bars were never put into my room after my initial check in. The room was spacious but very tired looking. However is was not as tired as the staff when it came to doing there job. Sadly I would never stay there again.

Yes To Any Request.. Including Kosher Pickles

Normally, I can find everything and everything wrong with a hotel because i have high expectations. I must say, even if i wanted to I could not find anything wrong with the hotel. The Fairmont has always gone out of their way for all of their guest. I switched hotels from the St. Regis and the hotel allowed me to check in at 9.am. On top of that the front desk must have read my profile because they brought over the Wall Street Journal. They would not have know that had they not read my profile. On top of that, I am not your average Joe and absolutely enjoy Kosher pickles. I was stunned to see kosher pickles in my room when i returned from shopping. In addition, throughout my stay the guest in the gift shop the front desk staff and bellman addressed me by name when they saw me in passing. I do no not think it get any better than that. I would also like to point out the service is consistent at all of the their properties. The Plaza New York is another great choice. Thank you Fairmont. I will be a committed guest for life!!

Lovely Visit

We stayed the first week of the year and things were pretty quiet except for the disassembly of the ginger bread house. Beautiful hotel with excellent service. Visited the Tonga Room to discover I am not a Mai Tai fan however the happy hour food, servers and environment was great. Will definitely stay again.
