Edwardian charm in a great location

I really liked this hotel. It's an old building so I knew to expect odd shaped and somewhat small rooms compared to other hotels. But that's also it's charm. Yes, a 5 star would have been more comfortable and would have better amenities, but it would also be more expensive. However, I don't think a 5 star would have been more charming. From the well appointed lobby (with wine tasting 5 Pm), to the Edwardian moldings, to the old jazz playing in the elevator, it delivered on charm. and the location was great. I would stay there again.

good downtown location

I was on a brief visit. This hotel is very convenient and in a safe location, a short walk to Union Square & Bart/Muni, For those interested the Powell cable car was at corner of block. No breakfast in hotel which gave perfect excuse to try nearby diner for excellent breakfast or early lunch. Staff were very helpful. PC & printer available in lobby for guests was a bonus.

Great location and a Good Value

Great San Francisco location adjacent to the Powell Cable Car line and convenient to some great moderately priced cafe's and unique places and shops. My room was smallish but very clean and the staff were always helpful and accommodating. The atmosphere is definitely early 20th century but the hotel is comfortable and the evening wine reception is a nice add on. I would recommend this to anyone. I would definitely return because it is an excellent value and you can walk (if you do not mind walking and hills) just about everywhere in the downtown and tourists areas. If not mass transportation is always available.

Good location/average quality

This hotel is located literally 2 blocks away from the Union Square and there are many alternatives around for dining, shopping, transportation etc. They had wine reception in the afternoon when i was there. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only problem with the room I stayed at was a faint moisture smell. I think it was because the bathroom was not aired properly. Otherwise, a very good price for the location and a safe place for a female solo traveler.

good value, but...

The Executive Vintage Court Property show its age but overall remains a good value considering the location is 2 blocks above Union Square. The complementary wine hour at 5PM is still a nice touch; continental breakfast is basic, but the coffee is decent. A negative for some would be the fairly steep 1 block climb to the hotel via Powell St.(or one could use the steps to navigate over the Stockton Tunnel.) The TV station options were more limited than I'd remembered--no all news or business channels (like CNN, CNBC, MSNBC or FOX News) were available on a day when the stock market was plunging and Congress voting on a bailout. The rooms aren't large, although they have a big closet with plenty of hangers. Bathrooms are small and basic--i.e. small sink, limited counter space, so if that's important don't stay here. Bed is comfortable and it's nice to be able to open the window for fresh air. My room didn't face Bush Street so was quiet. It's a great value for San Francisco. I didn't eat at Masa's this time, but in the past it has had a reputation as being one of the top restaurants in the city--not sure if that's still the case.

great location, but..

The hotel is located in Nob Hill, which is close to shopping, Chinatown, public transit, including the Cable cars. I took the BART train from the airport to Market and Powell and found the six block wall up a steep hill taxing. The hotel is old, but well-kept. The staff was cheerful and helpful. Continental breakfast of juice, coffee and pastries not to my dietary needs (I'm a diabetic) and having to pay to use the computer in the lobby was chintzy. Two caveats about the area are the number of homelesss and it's close proximity to the Tenderloin District, which is filled with junkies.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

There are some reasonably-priced restaurants in the area, with prices less than $20 per person.
