Lovely area, close to everything...
Very good attempt at high level service.. Old building but well kept.. Beautiful area, close to everything and extremely safe. Little extra's (various refreshments i.e. access to daily tea/coffee and afternoon wine reception) give this place that extra touch of class.

Hire a car! It's very easy to navigate San Francisco and there is plenty of parking. Definitely one of the best decisions we made.

On top of San Francisco!
I felt like we wre literally at the highest point in this great city. This is a lovely hotel, rather European which pleased me. The breakfast spread is great, but there is no lunch or dinner service. It is in a safe part of town, walkable to the shops on Union Street, but not close to anything else. I got in and out by cab mostly, although there is a bus a few blocks away. This is not in the center of town, but for the person who has been to SF often, it's a welcome change from the usual. I inquired about current activities upon arrival and was directed to info in the room, only to discover that which I sought was readily available in the lounge. Annoying, but not a deal breaker. I would recommend this hotel, although I will not stay there again because of its location.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
Novella Spa on Union Street was marvelous for an afternoon of self indulgence, and the walk along that street was fun.
