Enjoy Old World glamour under a modern roof
Designed by Philippe Starck, the Clift, A Morgan's Original Hotel, is located just steps from famous shopping venues and excellent attractions. The classic glamour of this hotel has been attracting celebrities for years, so long that this hotel has become a historic building. The Italian Renaissance exterior of the Clift, constructed in 1913, blends wonderfully with the modern glamour interior. The on-site Redwood Bar is a local and trendy favorite, with its towering 30-foot ceilings, digital art exhibitions, delicate lighting and velvet furniture.
3 Reasons To Stay :
- Fusion of design and color in a masterfully architected hotel

Meeting facilities
- Meeting Info
- Clift's stylishly appointed Meeting Rooms are an ideal alternative to the typically staid conference room. On the Mezzanine level, three stunning rooms featuring dramatic white velvet curtains, etched Venetian mirrors and Philippe Starck's modern interpretation of classic banquet furniture are available for meetings & events. Formerly the private home of the late Frederick Clift, the hotel's original owner in 1913, the Spanish Suite now serves as an elegant private function room. Many period details remain, including the rich wood-paneled walls, two enormous crystal chandeliers, and wood-burning fireplace.

lovely place to stay
Everything about this hotel was elegant and chic. The ambience was wonderful, though I felt the Redroom prices were unnecessarily high.

great location for shopping and city night life
The Clift was a great place to stay. We ended up going out a couple of nights, but the other nights we found plenty of fun in the lobby at the Redwood Room. Locals recommended it to us as a happening spot without knowing that we were staying at the Clift! Same thing for the restaurant. We were able to start our evening with dinner in the lobby at Asia de Cuba and end it with cocktails in the Redwood Room. So convenient. The room was a little small, but had everything we needed. Might not be great for more than two guests-we would have needed a second room had we brought our children. There were several great places to eat within walking distance and it seemed like you could catch a cab easily and get almost anywhere in about 10 minutes. We loved the location of the hotel as much as our weekend in San Francisco.

Every retailer you can think of is within walking distance at all the shops along Grant. Then if you prefer an indoor shopping experience....they are all inside San Francisco Center AGAIN which is also within walking distance.

It was goooood
Everything about the place was nice. The bathroom was too small would be the only complaint. I'd actually stay somewhere else next time because of this. Girls need counter space and such and this place had none. Other than that it was a great place to stay!

Dissappointed
The Clift was not what I expected. I know Phillippe Stark's work and I enjoyed the ambience of the hotel, but I was disatisfied with the smallness of the room. There was also hair in the tub when we first arrived. I called room keeping and they recleaned the bathroom. The fact that to light a votive candle cost $16 was ridiculous. That should have been an amenity. Also, offering items for sale was tacky. They should have a small gift shop if they want to sell things. I enjoyed the lounge area and the restaurant was superb! I really wish they had a laptop to use in the laptop. I would have liked to check my email from the hotel. I find these in small hotels in New Hampshire. All in all, it was not as nice as I expected.

Too bad there is no free Wifi
Too bad there is no free Wifi for the guest and that the Internet connection in the business center is so expensive. To check your e-mail, you better go to the Apple Store 5 minutes away...
