Enjoy Old World glamour under a modern roof
Designed by Philippe Starck, the Clift, A Morgan's Original Hotel, is located just steps from famous shopping venues and excellent attractions. The classic glamour of this hotel has been attracting celebrities for years, so long that this hotel has become a historic building. The Italian Renaissance exterior of the Clift, constructed in 1913, blends wonderfully with the modern glamour interior. The on-site Redwood Bar is a local and trendy favorite, with its towering 30-foot ceilings, digital art exhibitions, delicate lighting and velvet furniture.
3 Reasons To Stay :
- Fusion of design and color in a masterfully architected hotel

The Clift is a great hotel. It's hip, in a great location, and rooms are nice. I love the bath amenities there. If you are into the night scene, the bar downstairs is a great spot to hang out.

Small and too "trendy" for this southern boy
Tacky decor in the rooms would best describe the place.. tiny rooms as in any hotel of this vintage, but way overpriced in my opinion. Lots of young folks there... like a frat house and the fire alarm went off at 2AM... not somewhere I will go back to. Couple that with the fact that WIFI is not provided free of charge at this price point.. ridiculous!

Not that impressed.
Was expecting more given good reviews I have heard from others, but room was small and not particularly appealing. On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable and the shower head was ideal, which are not insubstantial plusses. Overall, I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5, but was expecting 4+.

"Great hotel in the Union Square area"
The Clift Hotel is well located, excellent service and a really cool place to hang in the bar at night. As it has that "cool factor" it attracts some of the power players from my industry during a conference in SF so I can catch up with old friends and business associates in a relaxed environment"

Two great theaters right next door to see a new play or musical that is on in downtown SF. Also plenty of excellent restaurants right around the corner!

Fun place!
The lobby is pretty, eclectic, and fun - both in the day and night time. The prices at the bar were higher than all of the other hotel bars we had been in (1.50 higher for a Stella than the Nikko for example) but the ambiance was nice. The elevators are SUPER dark, colored red, purple and green - kinda disorienting. The rooms were cute, light purple just like the pictures. Clean, great water pressure, comfortable, all in all a great stay. The staff were all helpful, and polite. I've stayed in nearly all of the hotels in the Union Square area and this is one of my favorites, especially considering it was $40 per night cheaper than my go-to's.
