Centrally located, the Cathedral Hill Hotel is nestled between Union Square and Japantown. It is just four blocks from the California cable car line, eight blocks from Union Square, six blocks to Civic Center and SF Opera Center, and a 10-minute drive to Fishermanfs Wharf. Located just off US 101/Van Ness Avenue, the Cathedral Hill Hotel has affordable overnight indoor parking and is an easy drive from both the San Francisco and the Oakland airports. North Beach, Chinatown, Golden Gate Park and Haight Street are all easily accessible by car and by public transportation. The Cathedral Hill Hotel is not only a historic San Francisco hotel, it is also a hotel that has something for both the leisure and the business traveler; an on-site indoor garage, a California-inspired restaurant, heated pool, business center and workout room. Enjoy the California sun from our garden patio and outdoor heated pool. For the fit and fabulous, a fitness room is available 24 hours a day. The Hotel features 396 spacious guestrooms on eight floors, including four suites, 32 premier rooms and a variety of superior rooms, many of which overlook the courtyard and pool. Decorated in soft sand tones, the rooms reflect the original design of the hotel with a classic early 60s California vibe. All of our rooms are non-smoking and many of our rooms can be connecting. Our rooms are the perfect place to relax and rest after a long day of sightseeing or a busy day in meetings. Guests must be at least 21 years old to check into the Cathedral Hill Hotel. The hotel is a completely non-smoking hotel. Photo identification and credit card are required at check in for incidental charges.

clean and comfortable for business stays

Stayed here for a night to have closer access to the city. Parking is an additional charge, ~15$ if I recall correctly, with in/out access. Has an older vibe to it; certainly not as modern and could use a update but the price was decent enough. Good for a place to crash for the night while you're out and about the city.

the good and bad

I was there to run the Nike Womens Marathon. It was a little farther than I wanted to be from Union Square but it was ok. I heard the hotel closed and is becoming a hospital. It looked like a hospital.

needs more renovations

We found that the location, lobby, and staff were possitives, as well as the ajoining coffee shop. Room cleanliness, including bathroom, was less than acceptable.Carpet stains and odor were unsetteling. Our stay would have been inhanced by providing a small refrigerator with drink and snack.Perhaps a postcard with writing utencil. Overall, there wasnt anything being provided to make our stay special or memorable.

Good location

The hotel was well located, near the downtown, in the main avenue of San Francisco. The staff was very nice to us. The only thing was the a/c, it's an old system, impossible to turn it off.

Noisy and not very Centrally Located

The hotel was extremely noisy, I could hear all the people around me not to mention the street noise also. It really wasn't within walking distance of much so I took a taxi almost every where. The food wasnt very good but there werent alot of options in the neighborhood. I dont think that I would have gone out at night by myself as the neighborhood didnt appear to be very nice.

Renovations? Maybe in 1970!

I slept and took naps. My convention was elsewhere. Naps were difficult because of noisy people working on gutting other rooms. Hotel is closing end of October, 09.

Good-bye, so long. And, thanks [...]

Now is not the time to speak of experiences. But, to thank the management of the Cathedral for all of the fine service and friendly staff as this once great hotel prepares to close it doors. I am not sure why a critical care facility is required in that exact spot of real estate, but it is to be. I would have preferred that the owners remod the hotel. I will say that the staff, knowing that they will joining the ranks of the unemployed before Thanksgiving did not deter them from providing excellent service. Good-bye Cathedral, we will miss you.
