Quirky San Francisco-themed comfort and personality in SoMa hotel

Some have Asian themes; others are designed in Victorian style. The overall result is a quirky and colorful hotel with oodles of personality. In addition, guests receive complimentary Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access and can enjoy the on-site outdoor hot tub, located in a relaxing garden area.

Cute room!
This room was perfect! Very cute and clean. Not the greatest neighborhood - lots of sketchy people around. But only a short walk to the subway system, busses and trolleys and shopping. Make sure you have your printout of how many people you have booked. They tried to charge me extra for 3 people but I was able to prove that's the way I booked it so it was quickly resolved. Small but hot continental breakfast next door. I would book it again.

A night in San Fran
My girlfriend and I were coming down from Napa and wanted to spend some time in San Fran so we booked a hotel for the night. The hotel was nice, just not in the best location. Also, there was a lot of noise, traffic, other guests that kept us up as well as the heat/ac not working great.

First Time to San Fran
An OK experience
The hotel is not overly fancy. There is only 1 ice machine (located on the 4th floor). The surrounding area is a bit sketchy at night. I would not have felt safe walking the streets alone there. The beds were comfortable. Bathrooms were nice. However, the room in which I stayed had a 'spicy' odor to it, which was pungent. The hotel staff was quite friendly.

comfortable
Though the location is a few blocks off the beaten path, it doesn't take long to walk to the area around Powell and Market (maybe 7-8 minutes?). The area has been described as "sketchy", though me, my wife, and my 22 month old daughter never felt un-safe. If you scare absurdly easily, then you probably don't belong anywhere in San Francisco. My wife and I were very pleased with the hotel. The staff was extremely helpful and considerate. Our room was clean and comfortable, and made a great place to crash after seeing the sights all day. The morning muffins and coffee became a ritual we greatly anticipated. Overall, I think we'd both give the Carriage Inn a strong 'A'.

Lovely Staff
When I first arrived to the Best Western Carriage Inn in SF, I was a little leary. Being from a small town in the midwest, I am not so used to city life - sirens, interesting homeless folks, etc. And then I went up to my room, the Patty Hearst room..."This can't be good!" I said to myself! I stayed 5 days though, and I would stay there again. All rooms are themed - it was just remodeled 3 years ago, and it's all fun! The staff are so helpful - they know all the best tips for getting places on public transportation, they made a big deal over my little granddaughter, there is a free computer and free internet, and frankly - it's a GREAT location!!! Close to the Moscone Center and Asian Art Institute, cable cars at Union Square and other transit...I actually hiked from the Embarcadaro back "home", past absolutely fabulous shopping - and the price was so very right!!! The shuttle service was great too - a wonderful driver who didn't drive crazy!!! I look forward to my next visit - just because the personnel were so welcoming. Oh - the Best Western Americana across the street has a pool and gym for working out that Carriage Inn guests canuse too - but I was enjoying SF too much to want that. And, continental breakfast was only muffins and coffee/tea, but really - in SF? So many fine restaurants and coffee places to try out, so I didn't mind. And just outside the hotel is a little Chinese/Vietnamese Restaurant that had the biggest, healthiest, meals for the best prices around! I totally recommend this place.

Entertainment tip:
Short walk from hotel
In SF, if you stay at the Best Western, Carriage Inn, and have small children, DO make a trip to the nearby Creative Children's Museum (Thurs-Sun hours) and Carousel!!! WELL WORTH IT!!! It's just at Yerba Gardens, near the Moscone Convention Center.

A Simple Room
With nearby access to BART and MUNI this hotel served as a great hub for my recent San Francisco trip. Not the best part of town but the rooms were spacious.

A Very Good Hotel
Booked this for my employer. He said that the hotel was very cozy and in close proximity to an excellent Vietnamese restaurant. We'll book here again when we return to SF.
