Good location
visitor Oct 19, 2009
The advantage of staying here is the location close to Union Square, shopping and the theatre and cable car routes. The room ... was small, and very, very basic. Seemed clean enough, no cable tv. If you just need a place to stay and shower, this was a good deal for SF. When I was there the restaurant was closed.

In town for concert. Valet only $24 - reasonable, but parking garage right up street (not sure on pricing). Check in a ... breeze, bag carried to room, small room w/queen bed, but fine for single. Iron & board in room, but no hairdryer - need to get at front desk. "natural" a/c. No need to eat, but White Horse bar/restaurant attached. Overall a good place.

charming hotel great location!
LEAFY Oct 4, 2009
We live here in the east bay but wanted to stay in the city to get to two events on different days. The hotel was centrally ... located to where we needed to be. For travellers, it is downtown area so civic center (taxi), union square (walk), financial district (walk), north beach (taxi) are close by . The staff were nice. The atmosphere and interior decor were charming victorian time period. The rooms were very clean, nice and simple decor. The only thing noted as didn't like but not very important as far as my needs were the rooms were small but that seems standard for many older san fran buildings and hotels. Also, you are unable to control the heat. it is manned by the building so it was chilly at night but luckily the bedding did a good job of keeping me warm.

HORRIBLE
JK Sep 29, 2009
When I arrived at the hotel, the staff gave me a room that was not yet cleaned, and was still absolutely disgusting. The room ... was very small with a tiny bathroom and crammed quarters. The staff was very inattentive. You could also hear noise from other rooms all along the hallway. Finally, there was no wireless internet reception in the room as well as terrible cell phone service. Thankfully, I had enough to do on my trip where I did not have to stay at the hotel very often. I would not recommend staying at this hotel...ever!!

Beresford Hotel...not a great experience
Traveler Sep 21, 2009
I wish I had not booked at this hotel. From the moment i walked in. The staff was pushy and unorganized. I was on vacation ... and I got very stressed out just checking-in. I had two staff talking to me at once while checking-in. One being pushy about shuttle service from hotel to airport while I was just trying to check-in. Than i got to the room and it was extremely small. I couldn't even pull my bag between the bed and the dresser. There were no outlets, no air conditioning and no space to put any of our luggage. To keep the room "cool" we had to use a fan that was loud. On top of this there was steal stinch in the air that made all my clothes smell. I would never stay here again.

Beresford Hotel a different experience
Twkster Sep 19, 2009
Wanting something more than a overnight stay at an airport hotel, I chose the Beresford for it's value rate and proximity to ... Union Square. For a Victorian era small hotel it did not surprise me when the rooms were not air-conditioned and rather spartan by business travel standards. Is a great value for someone needing accomodation for a few days or more in a great downtown location. Walking distance to a lot of great restaraunts and clubs. The staff were friendly and courteous. My only complaint is that transportation is limited to BART or Airport Shuttle, which is to be expected from a downtown area hotel.

I was only in the City for two days and had activities planned for the entire time. I was at the hotel only to sleep. The ... room was larger than many, very clean and comfortable. The service was efficient and friendly. I did not want to use the pool or anything similar. The White Horse, an attached pub, was small and lacking in atmosphere; the barkeeper was friendly. The kitchen was "under renovation" so no food was available.

Purchase a 1-day, 3-day or 7-day pass for unlimited rides on cable cars, MUNI bus system and MUNI metro-rail. We bought the 3-day pass for $18. Way cheaper than paying $5 for a one-way ride on the cable car. Also, during the high season be prepared for either a long wait time for the cable car or to walk a few blocks before catching a cable car because it is sooooo crowded.
