Romantic Getaway!

The Beresford Arms hotel was a great oasis in San Francisco. The historical hotel was impecably refurbished and the service was excellent. The continental breakfasts were great with fresh fruit, great bakery and good coffee. The cocktail hour was a classy touch where they served cheese, crackers, cookies, dates, nuts, wine and tea. The rooms were clean and well kept up. It would be a bit warm in the summer, as we saw no air conditioning. The shower was great and the two sinks in the bathroom offered enough room. I have already recommended this hotel to friends and we will definitely be coming back!

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Drove to Muir woods early in the morning to beat the crowds. It was tons cheaper than the tours and we were able to go at our own pace. We did a 3 hour hike, lunch in Sausilito and a drive along the coast to cliff house.

Great hotel for the money

We found our room to be very comfortable and the ambiance in the hotel reminded us of ones in Europe. The lobby was very large and the continental breakfast very nice every morning with fresh fruit and baked goods. Their afternoon happy hour from 4:30-5:30 with wine, cheese, crackers and snacks was also a treat. We were a little concerned the first night as we arrived very late and the neighborhood didn't seem the best, but in the morning things looked much better and we enjoyed being only 4 blocks from Union Square and access to all the transportation. We didn't rent a car and got a 3 day MUNI pass, and we were able to go almost anywhere we wanted by walking, or using the public transportation. We would come back here again and feel that it's an excellent hotel for the money. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and our room had everything we needed. We felt comfortable walking in the area, even at night. Lots of students around as there are two hostels in the immediate blocks.

Lots of shopping down on Union Square (if you can afford it!) and lots of restaurants of every type within easy walking distance. Great location. You can walk down to Union Square to catch a trolley or cable car, buses go right past the hotel, and it's about a 6 block walk to the BART station.

Traditional San Francisco Look

The Beresford Arms Hotel in San Francisco does a great job of representing the traditional San Francisco look, with bay windows and the tall ceilings (over 10 ft) in the room. The bathroom is tiny, but you don't spend much time in their anyway. The Beresford is just 3 city-blocks from Union Square, and right on the pulse of a major thoroughfare. And the fresh fruit at the breakfast buffest was just grand. Soon after arriving, I felt like a native.(!)

Great location

Beresford Arms was a great value. It was near the cable car line and surrounded by many good restraunts. It was nice to wake up to coffee and muffins in the mornings and their wine and cheese hour was a pleasant surprise.

Great little European style hotel

This is a fabulous hotel for the money! The staff was friendly, the room was a nice size for San Fran, it was clean, and the bathroom was clean as well. I loved the breakfast in the morning, it consisted of breads, pastries, and fruit, as well as coffee and tea. There are computers for use in the lobby, which was ok, but I took my laptop to a bar around the corner on Geary, where for the price of a beer, I cruised the Net to my heart's content. There are a lot of restaurants in the neighborhood, which is in a colorful neighborhood west of Unio Sq. I loved being a little out of the tourist zone, but close enough that I could walk into it if I wanted. I plan on staying at this hotel again, I really liked everything about it.

great location in san francisco

The Beresford Arms Hotel in San Francisco exceeded our expectations. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The location was great. We spent a full day walking around the city and returned at night by cab. It was an elegant hotel. We dined at the White Horse restaurant, two blocks away, which is associated with the other Beresford property. The dinner was one of the best we have had and the wait staff was great. We would recommend this property to anyone.

The best way to see San Franisco is by foot and this is a great location to begin your walk. We actually followed the trail we found in the AAA California guide and had a wonderful day.

old style charm

This hotel brings you back in time with old style charm. it is kept up well with an ornate spacious lobby. they do not have a restaurant but you dont need one with all the great eating places near the hotel and union square. they do have complimentary fruits in the am and wine & cheese in the evenings. central location gives you a great flavor of the city. no a/c but you dont really need it in mild san francisco.

Great San Francisco travellers' base

Beresford Arms was much like small European hotels. Small but friendly, attentive staff.Amenities include afternoon wine, cheese and tea. Room small but well equipped. Facilitated request to leave luggage while away for three days, returning for additional two day stay. Only discomfort was that no juice or water available with Continental breakfast; not even water source available on lobby level.

great value

The Beresford Arms Hotel was an excellent property, especially based on it's pricing. The hotel was very quaint and comfortable. I was concerned about not having AC but I wasn't familiar with the SF climate...that was never an issue. The location was great being 4 blocks from Union Square. The breakfast brunch and complimentary wine and crackers was a very nice touch. My only regret was that there was no WiFi in the room and the two computers in the lobby were very rarely available. I would also like a few more cable TV stations, but those were minor concerns.
