Nautical-themed luxury in National Park at Fisherman's Wharf

In partnership with the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, the Kimpton-owned Argonaut Hotel makes its home in the circa-1907 Haslett Warehouse, next to the historic Cannery building. Decor here is all about a nautical theme -- compasses, sails, rigging and ship wheels. The maritime motif continues in the on-site restaurant, the Blue Mermaid Chowder House & Bar. Many guestrooms also feature views of Fisherman's Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Highlights
  • San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park
  • Walk to Ghirardelli Square or The Presidio
  • Hosted evening wine hour
  • Spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge
  • Savory chowder at the on-site restaurant and bar
Rooms

The Argonaut's accommodations truly celebrate history. Many of the 252 rooms and 13 suites include original exposed brick walls, large timbers and warehouse steel doors. Other details, such as whitewashed furniture and Captain's-style desk chairs, pay homage to the waterfront's nautical past. All rooms come standard with coffeemakers, Sony WEGA flat-screen televisions, honor bars, Aveda bath products and laptop-sized safes. Six rooms feature extra-long beds and higher shower heads for taller guests. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access are available in all rooms (fees apply). Pets welcome (fees apply).

Features

The Argonaut shares the Haslett Warehouse with the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park's Visitor Center and Interactive Museum, which is dedicated to West Coast maritime history and the story of Fisherman's Wharf. The museum features a Farallon Island lighthouse lens and a shipwrecked boat. The adjacent Hyde Street Pier features a fleet of national historic landmark ships.

Inside the Argonaut itself, the on-site fitness center (open 24 hours) is complimentary. Spa services ranging from massage to facials and nail work are available in-room. The hotel also offers a hosted evening wine hour featuring local wines in the lobby area, known as the "Living Room."

The Blue Mermaid Chowder House & Bar -- the on-site restaurant -- serves casual fare and a hearty helping of Gold Era ambiance.

"Great location"

The hotel is in a great location at the end of Fisherman's Wharf. It is close to many major attractions and restaurants. Many tour companies are very close as well. The Argonaut has a nautical theme throughout which maybe over the top for some, but it is nicely done. The rooms are spacious, clean and modern. The hotel chain also makes a genuine effort to be earth friendly. Our minor criticisms are that the noise level in the rooms can be high as we could hear conversations in the adjoining rooms very clearly and that the TV always had a grainy picture, despite asking the staff to fix the problem. Otherwise, the staff is very courteous and helpful. The evening wine tastings were a very nice touch. The hotel is family and pet friendly as well. We would definitely stay again.

Fabulous location for the price..

We were confronted by a very rude guest at check in, he had cut in front of us, in line. When the hotel staff realized how we were being treated, they upgraded us to a suite, which was nearly as large as our home. Very clean. Very nice. We live in the Bay Area and this was quite a treat for us to stay the night in San Francisco. We will stay here again but next time with the children in tow.

Fair price in an expensive city. Nothing spectacular. Good location and a nice, quiet room for being in such a crowded area.

Amazing!

The hotel was absolutely perfect for us. It sits right by Fisherman's Wharf and is near TONS restaurants and activities. The service was excellent and every request we had was met. We were even allowed to check in early. The complimentary wine bar was also quite a nice way to meet some of the other guests staying at the hotel. Also, the bed at the Argonaut was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in!

Be sure to book a trip to Alcatrez! The pier the cruise leaves from is so close, you can walk. Also check out the Winery Collective next door to the hotel if wine is your thing!

Location - Location - Location

This hotel was located in a perfect spot. The Service was good. The wine tasting in the afternoon was alot of fun. The only problem we had was with the noise...could not sleep at night with all the road noise.

Almost perfect!

I left for thirteen hours and my room wasn't cleaned upon my return... Very disappointing. I had to wait 45 minutes for clean towels -- close to 11 PM.

excellent location and service

We mostly toured San Francisco and the surrounding area (including Fisherman's wharf). Staff was extremely accomodating and pleasant. Hotel was beautifully decorated circa early 1900's. Musicians in the courtyard, excellent shopping and entertainment location. Everything was within walking distance. Felt extremely safe most of the time. Everything shut down around 10pm and streets where a little desolate at this time. Overall a very pleasant stay and experience.

Nightlife tip: Not Applicable

Restaurants, stores, etc. except for a few bars close about 10pm. San Francisco Bay area is rather cool even in the summer. Average temps. around 60. You definitely need a Jacket at night and often in the day.

Outstanding Location

When we arrived early for our tansportation outside the hotel, they wouldn't hear of it! Reassured us we would not miss it, offered a hot cup of coffee, comfortable seating, and friendly conversation. We noticed how easy they related to mature guests and children alike.

Incredible location in Cozy Cannery

Location, location, location. This hotel has it and you need it. Located in The Cannery, a converted brick and heavy-timber bldg that used to be a cannery, this luxury boutique hotel has got great vibe and is close to everything at the Wharf. Starbucks around the corner, Scomas down the street, Definitely check out the Blue Mermaid Chowder House & Bar attached the hotel: Awesome crab&corn chowder as well as mussels, oysters, and crab. Roooms were nicely appointed with a nautical theme. Also, Check out the cheetah patterned bath robes! Our king bed was comfy and soft, with lots of pillows. Plenty of room for us and the bathrooms were gorgeous.

The Powell/Hyde Cable Car terminus is right next to the hotel. If you want to ride one, or just get a picture next to one, get there early (8am) to avoid long lines of an hour or more. Muni tickets on sale at 7:30am.
